Quick little battle of Sako vs Tikka both factory rifles shooting factory ammo. Not the best day shooting for me but I have always said most rifles shoot better than the shooters capabilities.

I was a young professional deer culler in the New Zealand Forest Service in the early 1960's. I saved very hard to buy a Sako .270. No scope until I could afford a Nikko 4x40 much later. The best rifle for the job and to this day, in my 70's, I still use a Sako .270.

I visited the Sako factory in the 90’s and was shown the machine in which ALL Sako and Tikka barrels were made. I own a Tikka Popular in .30-06 since and do all my hunting with it. Up to 200 meters I get one shot kills, all lying om the spot. Used to have a Sako in .270 Winchester before that. Accuracy was the same, Sako has just a more luxerious finish.

Not much difference between the 2 rifles, the sako has an extra lug on the bolt and a metal magazine with a metal trigger guard, that’s basically it, but the price difference is substantial, tikka gets value for money in my humble opinion

Great shooting! Both rifles are awesome. I have a Tikka T3 lite 30-06 and LOVE IT! It’s a deer and elk slayer. Very very comfortable to carry around out there. I’m in my late 60’s so weight matters. I’ll deal with the extra recoil when sighting in before season … after that it’s basically one shot per animal. I’ve never even noticed recoil when taking a shot while hunting. Other things to concentrate on I guess. Thanks for the video.

My Tikka t3x light in stainless 270 Winchester is awesome, with a Burris Fullfield 4.5 - 14×42mm . Everything I have tried so for in 130 grain as been great. Federal fusion, Norma,Winchester power point all work the same Winchester extreme point shoots a little higher but the bullet shape is more aero dynamic. I feel real comfortable out to 300 yards with a light breeze. The rifle just fits like a glove.

I worked at a sporting goods store and held both sakos and tikkas everyday, the money is clearly spent on fit and finish and looks and feel, but the barrels are the same and are both free floates, so I went with the tikka t3x and bought a really nice scope and still saved over $700.

Sako is more refined and alot more money. Tikka will shoot just as well any day for half the cost. Maybe less than half the price. Depends on the size of one's wallet. If you are looking for straight up value, Tikka is the winner, all day, every day. In fact I'd say Tikka rifles are the absolute best bang for a man's buck that can be had in their price range. In fact you might have to pay 3 times their price to get anything that might out shoot them. Never seen one that wouldn't shoot!!

I always factor in my shooting errors....so you take that, mix it with some factory ammo, and that's still a pretty good piece of shooting and some kill shot groups. I read someone else mention body position, and someone (my Uncle) told me the same thing when I first started. It's just like shooting pool, adjust just your body, before aiming and taking the shot. Good stuff though. I'm excited about my new Tikka.

With my hand loads ELD match it shot a 16 mm 5/8” group at 100 metres, at 200 metres it shot a 26 mm group 1’....... Not bad for a factory gun with no special bedding or tricks.

Would have to agree on that, to a point. If i have to choose between 2000 Dollar + Tikka and Sako, Sako gives more bang for the buck. Thank you for the video, both guns did great. I would agree the shooter is usually the problem, as these are two very well-built rifles! I saw you shaking quite often which is very normal for people to do! I’ve had many sako rifles in my life, lots of experience shooting them, I can tell you you pay for what you get. In my opinion they are the best rifles ever made, I would never have any other hunting rifle even if I had $1 million I would always buy a Sako rifle!!! I have never had a Teaka but I have heard nothing but good things about them as well. They’re not made from the same factory, and they are a little cheaper built cheaper parts here in there, but I have heard nothing but good things and they are deadly accurate as well. Either one would be great guns and I believe both these companies areheads and tails above every other company there is. However, if you’re willing to spend the extra money I would go with the Sako!!!

@@edwardabrams4972 Thank you for the reply and backing me up. It’s always nice to hear from another sako owner with knowledge and experience:) ever since I saw what my fathers rifle could do and was capable of, I have never looked back ! The functionality, the beauty and the mechanics are just simply priceless :-) I’ve never owned a custom rifle, but I’ve had some extremely top-quality rifles and handguns in my time, so I have complete confidence with my opinions. whenever I take my Sako Forrester out to the range or have it out hunting , it always intrigues people and I get lots of questions and compliments. People want to see it and shoot it and see how it performs. No matter what other gun is being shot at the range as far as rifles go, people always seem to be more intrigued with my gun. They are always amazed, when they hear about the amount of wildlife it has taken and the size of the wildlife that it’s has taken! Most seem to never believe a 243 is capable of what my father and I have proved it to be capable of. Sako rifles are truly phenomenal in every sense of the word. They are expensive, but they are well worth the money and the performance, build quality, and beauty, is “second too none” in my opinion!!! The sako 100 rifle that is coming out soon, Has intrigued me and it has caught my interest. I’m nervous about the price though because I know what blaser charges for their system rifle that is very similar! I don’t know that I could ever afford one and I really don’t need one, as I have what I need but I bet it will be a true beauty. Especially the carbon fiber version. Thanks again and enjoy your Sako rifles, as there is nothing like them!!!

I've talked to many reloaded about my groupings with my sako 85 7mm rem mag with factory ammo. Sometimes I've had flyers like your first left grouping and swear I've made a good shot. These reloaded say it's probably factory ammo as they all get under a dime size grouping at 100m with the right custom load with no flyers. I believe with sako and Tikka your groupings are dependent on the ammo. With that said, my Sako 85 22-250 gets about a 1inch grouping at 300 yards with factory Hornady ammo.

I know you replied to others about the bullet each rifle shot best but it would have been great to see both results to get an overall picture of their accuracy, especially if these factory offerings are most common. As a SAKO owner myself, i am partial to believe the 85 shot better.

As far as I know the barrels are the same, produced on the same machines. As the barrel is the last thing the bullet touches before it starts it’s flight there should not really be a difference, and it shows in the shooting. I own a tikka t3x lite in 223, with hand loads and Vmax 40 gr, it’s a 0,5 MOA rifle. Don’t own a Sako. I gues the tikka is probably a bit more plasticy…. But who cares, as long as it does what it needs to do. Nice shooting by the way in not so ideal setup with factory AMO. Was the different AMO tested for each rifle before this test?
@tiputipu777

You are right. Sakos are basically a premium version which use way more metal (etc metal mags which cost 160€ when tikka plastic mags cost 45€) and a different bolt/reciever design. Sakos fitment with parts are also better, but in terms of raw performance they are pretty identical.

Depends on the model. When you get to the high end of each others counterparts, you can't really tell the difference. Since Tikka is SAKO's subdivision, they don't really compete against each others, but Tikka do have lower price range lines than SAKO has. Also Tikka is specializing more to civilian markets where SAKO is specializing more to military markets. For example you can't find 10 000 Dollar sniper rifle from Tikka but you do from SAKO.
