This is my favorite season. April is the beginning of the school year and corporate business and newly hired employees. It's fun watching the students and families on their way to attend entrance and orientation for schools, some attending a new school with their lives in front of them. It's fun to see young professionals heading for their first jobs and careers wondering what life has in store for them. Also watching the Sakura blooming, winter is over, and spring is in the air and new beginnings about it start.

It has been an absolutely beautiful time to visit! Ohh that was a school orientation, that makes sense! We were not sure, that is an exciting time for sure. And so symbolic alongside the spring. I hope they all have great success in their futures!

The white cherry blossoms look like snow from a distance, which is really beautiful! Their cheesecake feels very high-end and special! That park is beautiful and well designed! Hanami Dango is so cute and really feels like spring! In fact, there are many varieties of cherry blossoms, and white is just one of them. It is said that in Japan there are more than 600 varieties spread across the country, and 12 are common! The flowering period, color, petal shape, size, etc. of each species are different! Alan's expression when eating that ice cream is so funny. I didn't expect that your preferences are so different! Your videos are so elegant, just like you! Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful video, really super great job! 👍😍👏

They are sooo beautiful and the snacks were a great addition to the experience! 🍡 Wow, we didn’t know there were that many!! They’re all extremely beautiful though, it has been bittersweet to watch them as they drop their petals and grow their leaves! Alan has very different tastes sometimes, but it keeps things interesting! lol. As always, thank you so much! We love that you appreciate so many of the same things that we do!! 🤗❤️

@@IfWeGoTo Yes, beautiful views plus desserts have always been their marketing focus! You are really born to be an artist, able to realize, feel, and sympathize the fleeting beauty of flowers, and also have the romantic feelings of a poet! You and Alan are truly a perfect match, you can complement each other and maximize your strengths! When I watch your videos, I feel like I am watching videos of my own brother and sister. I feel like I am watching family! You are both lovely, an artist, and a historian, both awesome! Finally, thank you too, so wonderful to know you both! 👍😍🙌

Aww thank you - this comment means so much to me! At my core I've always been drawn to the arts and wanted to be an artist. Put it off for a very long time pursuing a career in the sciences, which are also fascinating, but take an extremely different mindset and skillset. Ultimately it led us to where we are now, so I would not change it... but feel I haven't been able to fully rebuild that connection to the artistic spirit. Your comment helps me realize I'm getting back there. Slowly but surely! Likewise, we are so happy to have you as a part of this little community and family! 🤗💕

I'm glad you enjoyed cherry blossom viewing in Tokyo. During this season, Japanese people are also captivated by the beauty of cherry blossoms. The interplay between the colors of the cherry blossoms, the blue of the sky, and the green of the plants is indescribably beautiful. Of course, there are many beautiful places to see cherry blossoms outside of Tokyo, so please continue to enjoy them. Have a nice trip!

I was there 12 mnonths ago for last year's Sakura. It is totally magical especially when it "snows" pedals as you walk by. Put on the sound track from Lost in Translation and it feels like you are in a movie. You are right about the Sakura being mostly white, very much so. Most people think they are pink but the pedals are white, the pink variety are usually bloom earlier, the plum blossoms. The Sakura that people know of are mostly white, at least from the ones i've seen this time of the year anyway.

Oh so happy you got to see it too, it’s so beautiful!! You’re right about the “snow” too, just magic in the wind!! I’m going to need to do that, I don’t think I’ve heard that album! Yes, the vast majority are white! We learned about a few varieties that are pink, but they were far more rare and usually planted somewhere like a garden!

Soooo happy to hear you enjoyed your trip! I hope you get to make it back too!! Idk if this will help on a future trip at all, but in our experience the early spring here has been SO SO SO much colder than the fall!! This is our third trip to Japan and we have visited Late Nov-Jan, Mid Oct-Dec, and now March-April. I know this year was colder than usual but it was quite literally freezing for half of March! lol. We preferred the much milder Fall weather! We have been to the UK a couple of times, but definitely hoping to make it back out that way! We would especially love to see Spain as we have not been yet!! :) We're keeping our fingers crossed that Europe over summer will happen! Thank you so much for watching and letting us know that the videos have helped you on your trips, it's amazing to hear that! Happy travels to you and your husband, please don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need any tips! :)

What does [SAKURA] mean? It means that the god SA (Inari God: God of Fertility) stays in the mountains in the winter and comes down in the spring. There, farmers hold banquets under the cherry blossoms with the gods in hopes of a bumper harvest, called ``hanami.'' Cherry blossoms mean ``happiness,'' and when the petals fall to the earth, it means that the earth is covered with happiness. In general, cherry blossoms give the impression of being lonely because the petals are falling like snow, but the original meaning is ``God comes in spring.''

As somebody else already commented, the vertically long musical instrument is called "sho", the same pronunciation as "show". That is a major instrument in Gagaku, the traditional Japanese music played in shrines. The dance is also very traditional, probably more than a thousand years' history, and I heard a kind of historian said that it perhaps originated in Persia or the neighbouring areas. As the mask does not look typically Japanese, it looks exotic.

@@IfWeGoTo Aww that's so cool you live and work there. We were only there for 2 weeks. March 24th through April 7th. We started in Tokyo for 3 days and since the Yoshinos weren't full bloom yet we went and looked for pink Sakura and did alot of our city shopping and touring. We then went to Osaka to see Dotonbouri and the city. Saw Osaka Castle and visited Nara. I was disappointed it wasn't full bloom yet but still awesome experience. The temples were amazing. Especially Big Buddha temple. We did however get to see the pink sakura all over so I guess you could say we got to experience both types or most types in their full bloom. We then went to Kyoto and it was awesome! Saw so many temples and the 1000 tori gates and bamboo forest. Our feet hurt almost everyday lol. Was so worth it though. Daigoji temple was all full bloom at this time. Pink weeping trees everywhere. My personal favorites in Kyoto was philosophers path and kiyomizu dera temple (jaw dropping). We waited until our last day there to give the blossoms time to come out. They were almost full bloom. We then finished our vacation back in Tokyo the last 5 days or so and it was full bloom! Was just as excited as you guys. We pretty much went ALL over Tokyo, and I'm not kidding lol. Our personal favorites were Aoyama Cemetery and shinjuku gyoen. The streets were lined in all directions with developed Yoshinos. Incense in the air and less tourists because it's a lesser known spot. Was very beautiful and peaceful. Shinjuku Gyoen was amazing as well. So many huge trees in full bloom. Was breath taking. Yoyogi park we got to do hanami as well among the natives. We didn't have any friends either lol. We did make a crazy detour in the middle of the trip to a place up north for an Onsen Hotel. The hot springs was perfectly timed because our feet needed it lol. It was in Takayama. Anyways it was an awesome trip but glad to be back with our kids! Was a dream come true and we soaked every moment in. Thanks for the awesome video. Glad your dream came true as well!

19:30 It's a "Bugaku/舞楽" for the memorial service of Hōnen Shōnin, the original founder of the Jōdo-shū/浄土宗. This dance was introduced from China in the 8th century. The most favored type of cherry blossom in Japan is the Somei Yoshino, which is almost white with a hint of pink. Cherry blossoms are beloved in Japan because they represent the spirit of the Japanese people. There is a famous Japanese short poem that goes: 敷島の大和心を人問わば朝日に匂う山桜花 "If one should ask about the soul of Yamato in Shikishima (Japan) , it is the mountain cherry blossoms that scent in the morning sun." These cherry blossoms do not assert themselves too much with color or fragrance. They burst into bloom brilliantly for a short time and then scatter gracefully without withering. This transient beauty is considered the epitome of Japanese aesthetics. Furthermore, the performances held at shrines are called Gagaku. The instrument that produces the peculiar sounds is known as a "sho (笙)."
