something in the heavy lines and use of colour in 90's anime just hit different. I was not aware anything beyond Pokemon existed as a kid, as such, once I learned there were so many other forms of anime out there, I realised I had an untapped gold mine of backlog anime to delight in. The point is, nostalgia is not a factor in my love of 90s anime, rather the aforementioned aesthetic choices, writing quality and tropes of the genre are the main things I love most in anime

LOL WTF are you on about, 90% of anime is still hand drawn, the only difference between now and then is the fact that anime today are coloured on computers instead of on cells which is extremely time consuming, even Ghibli no longer colours on Cells even though they were one of the last major studios to keep doing it.

It's a pain to keep explaining but do watch how Disney animates their old works. It's the same process used on classic animes. You'll get why it's tedious. They're still hand drawn but coloring, putting background, etc. is now digital.

Started playing yesterday after trying to find an undubbed version of Sakura Wars for Wii. Never played or seen in depth any of the games in the series before, so I didn't knew exactly what to expect and I loved what I got. This game has the smell and taste of a 90s anime, with cartoonish villains, episode previews, catchy opening song and all. They integrated the visual novel segments in a way that it doesn't brake the flow of the story: you can't save mid-game, only when the game lets you do so; and most choices you need to make are timed. This way you'll always read each segment of an episode in full (they aren't as big as most VNs, clocking in around 15 ~30 min each depending on your actions) and you always need to pay attention to the dialogue so you don't do a choice you don't want to. Some of these timers go by very fast, but I think it adds to the game's personality and consequences of your actions, by making you accept your choices, even if they aren't as you wanted, and maybe giving more reason to replay the game with those choices in mind. The combat is also very dependant on these VN section, as the characters don't level up. Instead they get stronger or weaker depending on their mood, which changes depending on your interactions with them. And this seems like it goes on a episode-to-episode basis, as my Sakura was in High Spirits on episode 1, and even though my actions were more or less balanced in terms of keeping her mood high, she was "demoted" to Normal Spirits on ep 2. So you can't really grind affection, making the game always balanced, which I like, but I can see how it would be a turn-off for some that want to make an unbeatable unit, or freely customize their stats for different strategies. I'm not very far into the game yet, but I really like it. If anyone is interested, I'd recommend trying out the English patched SEGA Saturn version in case you don't understand Japanese. The main theme is LIT.

Absolutely without a doubt the pinnacle of Japanese anime was the 80s and 90s. Pretty much the golden age.....lost but not forgotten.

Thats a very shallow view. Yeah, there was that Harem/Moe boom and now we are in the stupid isekai/mmo-wannabe(with authors who have probably never touched an actual mmo) boom but there are just as many good gems out there if one were to look. If I were to express my frustration at the Japanese anime studios, I'd say a lot of them lack Directors who are willing to explore interesting works instead of bandwagon hopping on anything Isekai/game related to try and make a quick buck. My gaming knowledge have never been so insulted by the author who wrote that dumb "shield girl who doesnt like pain." Dropped this junk half way through 1st ep.

You know, I love coming back to watching older anime intros for multiple reasons. Initially it's to get a feel on how much anime has evolved when it comes to animation, style and such over the years. Yet despite that, anime from the 90's and earlier have a charm about them that in some ways, modern anime hasn't always been able to invoke. There's a classic, nostalgic feeling that builds up inside me whenever I revisit an older anime (even if some shows having aged to well in some regards). Regardless, I enjoy older anime series, and they'll always have a special place in my heart.

Just emulate PS2/Wii game (Sakura Wars 5) and Saturn game (Sakura Wars 1 with fan translation patch), and wait patiently for fan translation patch for Sakura Wars 3 which was announced few months ago. If Sega no bother to rerelease / translate rare and expensive games, just pirate them. You bought a game (propably untranslated PS2 remake of first Sakura Wars), and you will be justified.
