@@H33t3Speaks Lol, youll be surprised, KTEH in San Francisco, had an anime block that started in the mid-'90s and ended sometime in the 2000s. like typical PBS stations, it was supported the local otaku community through pledge drives. starting in March of 2000, completely uncut and subtitled. KTEH was the first EVER to show Neon Genesis Evangelion to an american audience, thats not all that they aired too, Tenshi Miyo, Key The Metal Idol, Urusei Yatsura, Cowboy Bebop. All Purpose Cultural Catgirl, AND Serial Experiments Lain, There's tons of proof online, Lain did in fact, air on pbs once upon a time. haha this brings back some vivid memories. I remember being 16 around '99 or 2000 and coming home from school after an all-nighter of System Shock 2 to queue up a download of lain episodes each day. I was using shitty dial-up internet that took 4 hours to download one episode off of pirating sites so I'd fall asleep then wake up at 12am to microwave some ramen and watch lain. This anime blew my mind at the time and I still think about it to this day.

@@faye7199 imo it’s because the song simply fits the theme of the anime, almost all opening are the standard shoenen songs. Where they are turned out of a pipeline of generic music. While lain needed a low key opening that fits the theme of depression and being lost

I remember when I was younger and first saw this anime, i think I was 11 or 12at the time. My cousin had DVDs of the anime, and he decided to watch it with me when me and my parents visited his family for a while. We watched it all at night, all while our parents slept, needless to say, it was... An experience. At the time, I couldn't understand some things, but now, I think I get them all. Every time I hear this opening, great nostalgia comes forth. I love Serial Experiments Lain just as much as I love Utena and Evangelion: it's one of my favorite anime of all time.

Regardless of the actual meaning, I’ve always interpreted the “present day, present time!” As to say that no matter when you’re viewing it, Lain is always relevant. It’s a commentary on the internet, and the internet just keeps evolving. No matter when you watch it, Lain will always be “present day, present time”.

Mid/Late 90's anime is absolutely glorious, it reached a different level in terms of quality production since many works were highly influenced by the very early days of the internet in mass scale for the Japanese society, we had timeless productions like Perfect Blue, Evangelion, Lain, Ghost in The Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Hunter x Hunter and so many others.

I absolutely adore Serial Experiments Lain. Unfortunately I was too young to watch it when it came out, but I was the perfect age for Digimon Tamers. When I was a teenager I finally got into Lain and have watched it once every couple years ever since then. When I eventually learned that Konaka was the man behind both Lain and Digimon Tamers, the (fantastic) weirdness of Digimon Tamers finally made sense to me. Such a unique and captivating style.

I've never seen Lain...But I have watched Haibane Renmai (The series the director made after Lain) I watched it at a young age, and everything about this OP brings me back to it, it gives me that sobre feeling I felt during my early teens, but mixes it in with the hope I felt during my later teens

I've seen both and now that I think of it, both series are kinda uncanny in a similar way. I didn't know both were directed by the same person. Haibane Renmei feels more understandable to a mortal like me cause I think it's more straightforward, but it's still got this sense of unreality or I guess the "uncanny valley" vibe like the world doesn't make sense but it somehow acts like it does, dreamy kinda. Really cool. I just hope that when I age a bit and find these songs that I'll be reminded only of the good anime and not my not so good current life lmao.

The sound of the buzz of the VHS has me crying. I had one in the early 2k and it wasn’t even mine, but my most prized possession. Everyone knew not to touch it or move it. I will never forget that VHS system. I watched my power rangers, my rugrats movies, Selena. All that on VHS. I didn’t realize we put our VHS away for the one and last time when we got our DVD player.

This opening is very good, I just discovered Lain and watched all episodes recently, and I loved it, It was so good and something completely different because I normally watch more like comedy animes. But I read some good reviews about it, so I just gave it a try. But good dam I started watching it in the morning and not in the late evening because I’m only 15 btw. The story really got me, it was such a masterpiece!!! But I wonder what my parents think when I tell them I want to buy it on DVD, because it’s a genre I never watched much before. That design of the Anime fits so well with the VHS quality….

When I was like 13 I found a copy of this show/ movie @ a garage sale and it had like 2 different disk. I never got into it just because at that time I was really only into action anime but I kept hearing this song on TikTok recently and found out it it was actually from this anime. I’m 20 now and could’ve heard it a long time ago if I gave it a chance but I actually really like the song n the beat. Something about it just gives me nostalgia

2-D art will always be welcomed and beautiful and you can really see the passion that the animators put into it We are lucky to experience so many great 2-D animes

Around 9/11 I consumed datura, not knowing what it was, and saw Lain for the first time not long after. Most interesting time of my life, ended up in a mental hospital for about a month. Fond memories.

I asked my mom a question; "Mom, am I similiar to Lain?" she answered; "Yes, you are similiar like Lain." she is an otaku and watched Serial Experiment Lain btw. She even collected a bunch of sailormoon cards! I found her old calendar, her note was so silly and full of anime pictures like Inuyasha, Conan, etc. Though, I am not sure I am similiar to Lain, but I do kin/relate to Lain :)
