Did a 2chan Post Record Her Last Words?

Күн бұрын

On a brisk early morning in 2007, a 2chan user was outside in Shinjuku. Passing through an alleyway behind a hospital, they began to hear something unusual. Singing. Described as beautiful but haunting. This 2chan user became spooked and ultimately fled. At around 5 a.m., they made a post sharing what they heard. The response, and revelations that would follow, catalog this post in infamy as one of the most disturbing things shared around the site.

It's rather comforting that despite being close to death, she was still doing what she loved the most in the end. And I think that's what matters.

There are a lot of sources online, some from people who knew her at the hospital, that talk about how optimistic and creative she was, even in her final days. She was a very inspiring person for sure.

This is why I find it so disturbing. People suck. However, many working at the hospital DID confirm she sang Makenaide to herself a lot, so there’s that.

It's just painfully tragic. She was grappling with a terminal illness but meeting it with a positive outlook and optimism many would find hard to keep in such a situation, only to then die in an accident descending from a place she found as a comfort. Still, said undaunted spirit is admirable and is likely how she became so successful in the first place.

Man - I knew she had passed away but definitely didn't know the story. And I didn't know her original upbringing and story of how she became a model and singer - thanks for all your research! I stopped following Japanese culture around 2006'ish but it's fascinating how many of your vids speak to my time period.

I love learning about the less known stories behind Japanese culture. My son is turning 16 in two weeks and mine is the day before his. We are making travel plans to go to Japan as a graduation present. Watching your channel is fantastic for learning about what we American tourist might look over and miss out on. Please stay safe and we look forward to all you may share with us in the future. 🤗💜

Wait a minute... I've heard Makenaide before! Ryu☆ (Bemani song producer) made a remix of it, and Omoi (Vocaloid producer) also made a cover of it with Miku. It's a fantastic song. I can't believe I never listened to the original until now. Knowing the story behind the singer makes it feel very bittersweet now.

Great video! I know it was only a minor point in the video but it's always saddening to hear about how many people living in Japan view age and women. I get it's also a thing in the U.S and other parts of the world but it's always sad hearing about how idols lie about their ages to seem younger, how unmarried women in their 30s are viewed as less desirable, etc. Hopefully this all changes one day.

Good video, Sakura. ZARD is one of my favourite acts of all time. I understand people wishing for her last moments to be beautiful, but I think that the homage made to her during the What a Beautiful Memory concert is truly the best homage that could be made to an artist. A lonely mic with the band covering her songs, really feels like when we go through the photos of the dearly departed. Funny thing, but my first indirect contact with ZARD was through Dragon Ball GT, where she the lyricist of the opening ("Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku") and the singer of the second ending ("Don't You See", my favourite song of hers to this day), and I would just know the band properly just years later when I started consuming japanese music routinely.

Walking in Shinjuku anywhere without another person in sight? I can’t suspend my disbelief that much. I’ve lived in Japan, a small town in Tokyo and no matter what time of day or night it is, there are always people walking the streets. There is no such thing as walking the streets alone even in a small town in Tokyo, much less in a crowded city like Shinjuku.

Good informative video, and at least you clarified the truth behind the hoax. Just one correction you might want to take note of: The photo of "Daiko Nagato" you used is actually one of Tetsura Oda, a famous musician and composer who in fact wrote many of ZARD's earliest songs, including some of their greatest hits. There aren't many photos of Daiko Nagato around as he's rather low profile, but he has more of a bookish look with an old-fashioned haircut and thick glasses.

My jaw dropped when I heard Sakai Izumi's name. I grew up with her songs and thought myself to be well versed in her backstory, yet somehow my mind had totally failed to connect the dots in the first few minute of your video. Her passing was somewhat a transformative event for me and made me an outspoken supporter of HPV vaccination and cancer screening to this day, As for the copypasta, I honest don't mind as much as it shows people want to remember her for the positive side of her life if nothing else. Anyway, thank you for bringing this up in a respectful way. P.S. Nagato Daiko and his label Being was a cornerstone of 90s JPOP. If you like Zard, check out the other artists produced by Nagato such as Garnet Grow, Aiuchi Rina and WANDS. You won't be disappointed!
