Learning of Saladins shortcomings and weaknesses kinda made me like him more. He's not an undefeatable general like Alexander or Khalid ibn al Walid, in actuality he's kinda mediocre and that just makes him more human I guess?! He is not a legendary hero but a man who makes mistakes like the rest of us. And that makes his story even better because he is able to overcome all of that in his quest to unite the Muslims

Possibly an interesting "What if-" story right there. What if Saladin and Richard's negotiations were accepted, and Aladil (Pardon if misspelled) and Richard's sister were married, creating this different type of Jerusalem. Whether converting to Christianity for the husband or the wife converting to Islam is a question for further research, among many other things, but still worthy for a thought experiment. Leave some honest thoughts. Maybe worth a story someday.

Saladin never really intended to go through with this. He was mainly stalling for time. Richard wasted a lot of time on the march. Hmmm, executing prisoners of war in front of an army you're trying to beat is a sure fire way to have every one of the enemy soldiers fight to the last breath instead of surrendering and preserving your forces.

I wouldn’t say that, because he didn’t win against the Crusaders, he signed a peace treaty with terms involving pilgrimages with Richard, because Richard realised if he took Jerusalem, then the other Muslim kingdoms would just come back to take it again.

Imagine how things could have changed if Alladil had not been pressed to convert. A multi denominational royal couple overseeing the holy land could have had massive political and social consequences, especially when considering the intermarrying of two dynasties on the rise. Ideally this would lead to an advance of mutual respect and understanding. Worst case the other powers with interests in the region get real spooked at this alliance and harry both dynasties in their homes, leading to even more chaos and violence.
