The Japanese showed them that just planes alone could kill a fully functional battleship on their own. @@JeanLucCaptain It might be cheaper and more maneuverable. With better particle cannons and beam cannons, armor cannot keep up which is why making it more compact might be preferable for its mainline ships. Kakarot, I think there is a fourth explanation for MS coming out of Salamis-class ships--Basically, the war demanded increased production, so they pushed ships into service where the hull had already been laid down but the interior not finished. @@MasterArchfiend the thing is, it's essentially the most UC movie. Remember, Victory has the Federation basically a house of cards that would have been blown over in the interim rather readily. With the likely scenario that the Federation's response, in the end, is screw Newtypes more (because their _first_ option whenever they can't control something is, essentially screw it over and if they can't do that _destroy_ it), it is likely that the Newtypes, in general, modified a colony into a generational ship, grabbed as many newtypes and their families as they could, and just _leave_ the solar system.

If Zeon had not developed their fleet around the ability to carry and deploy mobile suits, not to mention the mobility and the ability for mobile suits to essentially carry around 12inch caliber weapons (360mm Rateken Bazookas anyone?) then in a straight fight the Salamis probably would of fared much better, and the industrial capabilities would of mattered far sooner. Instead the Federation had to spend about 6 years playing catch up and only really having generally mediocre mobile suits by September of 0079 (unless you count the R.G.M.-79[G] which appeared earlier but was never designed for Space Combat as the Federation had to focus on retaking territory initially captured by Zeon)

In ww2 you had the debate between air craft vs battle ship in terms of power in navel conflict which was rendered moot when Japan attacked British held south east asia. The japanese planes fought a brit battle ship and sunk it marking the end of naval power being only about battle ships. Just look at any modern navy today and you will not see a battle ship just missile boats and carriers for the real teeth of the fleets. Just like in the UC time line you don't see navy ships without MS being used as the ships are just sitting ducks even with the fancy new guns.

I think the original Salamis used the cargo bay for storing and deploying mobile suits. They probably used the rest of the ship for storing smaller parts and food, similar to a how a u-boat does things. It wouldn't surprise me if they had to unload the suits to bring in the goods, distribute those items throughout the ship, then load the suits back into place. Being a quartermaster for a OYW Salamis has gotta be hell.

As far as we know there was almost no major developments in warship design until the beam shield for warship so Salamis worked just fine. When upgraded with beam shield and likely other upgrades, old Fed ships like Salamis and Clop and Ra calium went toe to toe with modern Zanscare warships without much trouble and maybe defeated them as we never heard about the space fleet of Zanscare after Fed Fleets finally arrived and took them on.
@KnightShadowsong19 күн бұрын
my understanding of the Salamis class is that it was like a battleship in WW2, they were built for a conventional type of fighting that was obsolete by the time they were released, like the Battleship the Salamis class was overshined by the Mobile Suit, the One year war equivalent of Naval Aviation. were it not for the development of the Mobile suit, and the Zion's better designed Musi class, the original Salamis might have done considerably better.
@johnprzybycien16444 жыл бұрын
The reason that the Federation spent money on mobile suits, and not the Navy, was mentioned in several One Year stories: Zeon decimated the Earth Federation fleets, and invaded Earth in a "blitzkrieg" that was only successful, due to Zeon's mobile suit force overpowering the obsolete Federation forces. Tanks, infantry, ships, etc. were no match against mobile suits. That should answer your question about why the Earth Federation chose not to spend resources on a space fleet, in favor of mobile suits

If your cargo bays are tall enough to fit a mobile suit it's not hard to turn that into a hangar

I have always found it intresting how the Salamis class crusier is the longest ship in the EFF history. I mean the damn ship have been service until the EF government collapse some time after victory Gundam. But I've always wondered why the feddies never made a crusier that is a successor to the salamis class by the time of the second half of UC.

Why replace something that wasn't broken.

Wouldn't the Clop be considered a successor to the Salamis-class?
@robertdrexel20433 жыл бұрын
@@bS0up No, not really. It be argued that it would be succeeding the Salamis as the Federation's Cruiser weight ship it wouldn't be the true successor. Especially since the Salamis continued to see service right alongside the smaller Clop Class well into the Gundam Victory era.

I really wish the nelson could be more widely adopted. So the federation could basically field mini white bases throughout the earth sphere without endangering their pegasus-class and not needing as much escorts as the columbus-class. especially after they got mega-oofed by Gato.

You know one of these days I am going to see about writing my own fanfiction story about the Nelson during the 0083 Era.

The fact that the Federation held on at all is kind of insane. Like, automation and computers might reduce the crew size of such a large ship to well below the numbers required for comparable historical naval vessels, but you're still losing huge numbers of personnel and vast amounts of war materiel every time you lose a light cruiser. And that's not even discussing the immediate collapse of morale when word gets out that the Zeon equivalent of a fighter jet can destroy a light cruiser with one shot from any angle, while point-defense fire simply bounces harmlessly off its armor.

I hope you do more eps on ships. Personally I would like to see an ep explaining the Pegasus line during the OYW. I was surprised when playing G Generation Genesis how many similar ships there was compared to White Base. Blanc Rival, Grey Phantom, Thoroughbred and many others. I think Albion would count too?

I think it would be hard to explain Considering we not even see the original titular ship of the class yet... The SCV-69 Pegasus

I have a request @Kakrarot197, a question that ALWAYS puzzle me: How did Char survive his battle against Haman at the end of Zeta, what the hell did he do during ZZ (other than grieving on Kamille's "death") and events before Char's Counterattack? I've always been puzzle how did Char pull ALL that his assumed "death" to the man who was ALMOST about to "destroy" the Earth.

So it wasn't named after an Italian deli meat. I did not realize that the sea-surface ships in Victory included Salamis variants. I remember at least one ship was able to launch into orbit on it's own power, I suspect the rest did as well. My memory is a little rusty... I suppose this makes sense if they were equipped with a "Minovsky craft" or "Minovsky drive".
