As someone who's been regularly using an almost identical bowl for years I'd like to add my personal tips. Raw popcorn is indeed painfully bland so flavoring is key to really enjoy this. I have no idea where the no oil recommendation comes from since the instructions that came with mine suggested cooking with oil and I never had an issue. Here's my best popcorn seasoning refined over the years: For one 1/4 or 1/3 cup of corn ( I personally always make the larger portion) - One table spoon of corn oil - One table spoon of Butter or Margarine - 1/4 tea spoon of salt powder Cooking with the seasoning makes for a drastically more convenient and enjoyable experience. It's not only easier but also does a much better job. I strongly recommend the salt powder as it flavors the kernels much more evenly and significantly improve the taste. I use corn oil as I find it enhances the popcorn flavor instead of dampening it. Happy popping

I’ve used one of these silicone microwaveable popcorn poppers for years with the Orville popcorn kernels and have no complaints. The resulting popcorn is far superior to the bag kind, and the only fat is whatever you may choose to add for flavor. The floppiness allows you to tuck the lid inside and collapse the bowl for space-saving storage between uses. As you found, you wouldn’t want to put a hot bowl in your lap anyway.

I have this, and it is amazing! 5.0 Couple of things. First, there is no comparing this to any air-popped pockorn I've ever had. Even with no oil or salt, it's pretty good. When you go and try to ad salt for more flavor, just like air-popped popcorn, with no oil, salt, even popcorn salt will not stick to it. I've found you can take salt or popcorn salt, put it into a blender and blend it till it is super-fine and it will stick to the popcorn popped with no oil. I just store the super-fine salt in a regular salt shaker. The instructions say you should never put salt or oil on the corn before popping, but I have done it and gotten GREAT results. YMMV. I would never advise anyone not to follow the manufacturer's directions, but here's what I do. I put the cupful of popcorn in the popper. Then I put salt on the popcorn. I had to experiment with it to find the correct amount. Then I put just a splash of popcorn oil on top of the corn. Finally I stir it with my finger till the popcorn is completely coated with oil and salt, then cook as normal. It is the best popcorn I've ever made, and I use significantly less oil and salt than with any other method I've tried.

I just use a microwavable glass mixing bowl and a corelle plate, works great. The microwave power/wattage does matter. I made it in a 700 watt and an 1100 watt microwave, and it would always burn in the 700 but not in the 1100 because it pops faster and the popped kernels have less chance to start burning. This bowl did have fewer unpopped kernels than mine but not a lot more

Mr. Sandoval Yeah, when you got one that worked well, it was magical. We had one in the 80s that was like a heating bowl. You’d put kernels and oil in the bottom and it would pop it. I've used this popper for over a year or so and love it. I add a little coconut oil, maybe 2 tbs, and have not had a problem. Adding the coconut oil and salt makes it taste just like theater popcorn, IMO. I've also been known to add more than a 1/4 cup, as much as a rounded 1/2 cup causing the popcorn to pop over the bowl and the lid to go askew, my microwave is clean so I sweep the popped kernels into my bowl. I prefer this popcorn bowl over my real popcorn machine maker, less mess to clean and the popcorn tastes just as great!

I'm biased for Orville Redenbacher (1907-95). I met him at a reception in college around 1980 that he attended because his granddaughter was in my dorm. The instant he found out that we had popcorn out for snacks he made a beeline for it, and examined it closely kernel by kernel until he declared that it was "his" popcorn and that we had cooked and seasoned it properly... and he was correct. What a guru! He was very interesting to talk to, knew positively everything there was to know about popcorn, and dressed and spoke exactly as you'd expect from his many TV commercials.

Looks cool. I've been doing this forever with paper bags in the microwave. Nobody needs that chemical-filled brand name microwave popcorn. Far cheaper and healthier this way. A lesson I've learned on adding butter though. After you melt the butter wait about 30 seconds or so before mixing it with the popcorn. If the butter is too hot it will just melt the popcorn. A spice mixture that I use quite often is garlic powder, dried dill and seasoning salt. If I find one of these silicone options on sale I may give it a try. Thanks for the video!

I’ve owned several microwave popcorn poppers over the years. They’ve all worked well, The thing I like best about using them is the popcorn is very dry & crisp, probably because microwaves work by displacing moisture from the food it cooks (ever notice how food can dry out in the microwave?) Popcorn made on the stove & even packaged microwave popcorn traps a lot of steam & the popcorn isn’t as crisp. Just reconcile yourself to adding butter & seasonings. No big deal & you can control the amount.

I have an electric air popper, but I want to start making popcorn that is like movie theater popcorn, so I’m in the market for a new popper. Right now I am debating between buying a whirlypop stovetop popper, this silicone microwave popper, or possibly the “Stir Crazy” or Dash electric hot oil popper. Is there really a noticeable taste/texture difference between popcorn made with oil in this silicone bowl in the microwave and popcorn made in the whirlypop or electric oil popper? Besides any possible taste/texture difference, the other thing I’m worried about with the silicone bowls is that they seem to be all made in China (so I worry about the quality/healthiness of how it’s made), and they even have the California prop 65 cancer warning attached to them on their Amazon pages. What are your thoughts, if you don’r mind my asking?

I've been using this thing for a while now. And this is how I salt the popcorn: I put salt in the bowl, mix it with four tablespoons of water and add the corn. The water evaporates first, and a thin layer of salt covers the corn kernels. Very simple. Sometimes I also add yeast flakes.

Ok, microwave popcorn works because the kernels heat from the inside, but you don't need any gadgets. A simple kraft paper bag will work just as well. Just use 1/4 cup of kernels only, pop about 2min. After, add melted ghee and salt. The paper bag is only warm, does not need emptying, shake the ghee and salt within the bag, eat out of the bag. No mess, no washing and no toxic chemicals.

I absolutely love this!!!! I bought it a couple years ago based on this video recommendation and I love it love it love it. I got a glass atomizer to put olive oil and I lightly Spritz the popcorn with it and sprinkle it with salt give it a toss and it's good to go it's so delicious that way. By the way I season in a separate bowl it's nice to keep the popcorn bowl clean and not have to constantly have to wash it. I use Iberian olive oil which is blended with sunflower oil it is very light and delicious. Also I use a fine grain of salt sprinkled on it.

As someone who owns and uses this exact bowl regularly, let me give you some advice. The bowl company talks about no oil because they are wanting to present you with a HEALTHIER option. They say on their website it's "not required". However, for taste and for cooking purposes I put a spoonful of olive oil in there. (I just eyeball it) You also should season the popcorn. I use different things, such as salt, pepper and sometimes chicken flavor powder because I like that. Sometimes, I'll pop the corn with a little bit of butter. I'll be honest, I don't feel as though the butter is necessary. But if you absolutely love butter then I'd say slice a little bit of butter in there as well, and just lessen the amount of oil you put in. I've done that a couple times. This is a really nice product. It's good grade silicone and it's better than those little bags you get.

When you do a search for it on Amazon it comes out with a few knockoffs, some of which are cheaper. Would be interesting to know if they're the same quality or lesser. Some even say Original. Wonder which one actually came out first?

Same material, same design same result, you can't go wrong. I bought an $8 one from Amazon. It works best with just kernals. When you add butter and oil to the mix, it significantly increases popping time and burn risk. I still get better results via stove top with butter flavored coconut oil and Flavicol.

As a lazy person, getting a pan out, warming oil, watching the pot, moving the pot, and placing it in a bowl is too much work. I tried another brand of plastic popper, ok until lid broke, tried it again, same thing, tried lunch bags (paper) and that was OK, and I could reuse the bags, but the outcome was less than I wanted. I hopped on to Amazon and there was that Salbree and I figured it is not too expensive so I got it. My instructions said add oil to popper if you want so I guess that changed, but I actually really like that popper, and you can read my whole review on Amazon. Popcorn may be my most favorite food ever.
