Thing that made 1979 Salem's Lot scary was the music and sound effects. That alone created immense atmosphere and suspense. Then the acting was incredible. These ingredients are needed for a good horror. Gonna be hard to top Tobe Hooper. CGI will kill it

Excellent points , yes I hope they don't CGI it , nothing better that practical make up and effects , The Excorcist proved that with Dick Smiths ground breaking efforts.

I agree I hate any CGI movie I refuse to see movies like Aquaman and bullshit movies with all CGI. They’re getting paid millions and millions of dollars to have a few moments on screen and the rest is computer generated that being said that Nosferatu vampire in 1979 Salems lot still bothers me and creeps me out. It’s the scariest thing from every movie that I’ve ever seen up-to-date next is the original exorcist

It deserves to be on the big screen...the 1979 version is in my all time favourite horror movie top 5...the performances, atmosphere, make up...top notch!

Yeah, it was a mini series and made for TV because you could tell by the terrible cut scenes for commercials. When you get it on DVD and there are no commercials, it just is not as seamless as it could’ve been had it been on a major movie screen

Ive recently saw a still of an actor in " costume " from the new Salem's Lot movie. One of the supporting characters, not one of lead characters.. the particular actor in " costume " looks pretty good and ive been told this movie is coming sooner, rather than later. And its lookin good! 🙂👌👌🙏🙏💯

Who is that actor, and where have you seen it? I got intern news that Warner is releasing a list very soon, on that list we will see the projects that will end up getting canceled, rumor is SL gets shelved indefinetely, but I doubt that SL is on it, because if Warner want to cancel that movie, they already would have done that months if not 2 years ago. I'm still optimistic. I've heard one week ago, that they are delaying the movie again, last info I got in terms of release date, is April 19.

Yep! He was quite impressed with it. Apparently! But I'm wondering when he saw it ? Coz they did several days of quite extensive reshoots, I do believe. So did he see it before the reshoots? Or after ? As some " changes " were made before the " final cut " got it's " R " rating. In one cut the Ben Mears character, dies towards the end of the movie, with only Dr Cody (Alfre Woodard) and Mark Petrie (Jordan Preston carter) surviving. So which " cut '' of the movie did king see ? I doupt he'd be too happy with the Ben Mears character dying. Seems like a very depressing ending to me 😕

Yeah, they were having problems with the Barlow dude! So had to recast the role, apparently, and do some pretty extensive reshoots. The Barlow character is " apparently " very " Nosferatu " in the new movie.

I've never given up hope of seeing the new movie version since there's never been an official announcement that it's been cancelled. I hope it will be a much more accurate adaptation of the novel than the movie versions of 1979 and 2004.

1979 adaption was pretty accurate. 2004 was terrible.

@@josebro352 How was 1979 accurate? Barlow doesn't even resemble the book at all and 2004 is more accurate there. Don't get me wrong I love 1979 version but it's not some definitive flawless movie. They missed the boat by not going into some of the book’s characters more or going into the scariest sequences....never saw Father Callahan actually get condemned and the aftermath, abduction of Ralphie Glick in the woods was too short.....they explored the history of Hubie Marsten and his house in greater detail as they skim over the mythos in the film.

Well, I think it will get a home video release on dvd/blueray/4k as Warner's own the movie rights to do Salem's Lot for TV/movies as they purchased those rights not long after the publication of the novel in 1975, so one would assume Warner's put it out perhaps few months or so after the highly anticipated movies premier on the big screen or Max(formally HBO Max).

Of course studio people are going to say a direct-to-streaming release is not a reflection on the film's quality. What else are they gonna say, that it stinks? Why else wouldn't they release it in theaters? Of course we don't know if any of this is actually true.

Great update, thanks. I recently watched the (first) remake and actually thought it was perfectly okay, quite enjoyed it even. Is this the first Stephen King novel to have had three filmed versions? I know there are several that have been done twice, but can't think of another with two remakes?

Man WB is really getting on my nerves right now. They’re being absolute d!cks regarding this movie, just let us decide for ourselves if it is good or bad. Stop treating it like a plague and release the damn thing. I love the book and good or bad, I’ll watch any adaptation of it. A trailer before the New Years would be nice

Stephen King just shared his review of the movie on Twitter and he says it feels like an old Hollywood movie with good suspense, but there were changes to the novel that he didn’t agree with. I’m hoping after this movie, Hollywood will give us an adaptation of The Long Walk and Ben Stillers Rat movie. Have you seen Five Nights at Freddy’s? I thought it was good, but could’ve been better.

There will Never be another performace that will even come close to Reggie Nalders Barlow . Nalder played the vampire as it should be played a nightmare of a monster that only kills and destroys without mercy. No Loverboy , hapless sympathetic creature. Just a horrific" Master of death" a real Vampire. Mr. Nalder scared the hell out of millions with that makeup and his performace. That cant be improved upon, ever. Like Boris Karloffs Frankenstein monster, You just cant beat Perfection. I dont care if they ever release it. I have seen " The Master" RIP Mr.Nalder. Thank you for a brilliant performance.
