My dad is a huge Stephen King fan. HUGE! He introduced me to the original movie when I was 5 years old. To this day, I refuse to sleep facing the window. I read the novel for a book report project in 8th grade. The entire week I stayed up until sunrise to feel safe. This trailer has me excited! 🧛

Read the book (fire). Seen the 1979 TV mini series(arguably the best vampire stuff put on screen). The new movie falls way short, but as you've seen in my previous comments, it had a lot to live up to!

@@horrorwhileblack I really recommend the audiobook. I've read the book a couple of times but there really is something to listening to the audiobook narrated by Ron McLarty. Like a really long form firelight scary story telling session.

I do not agree with making Mark Petrie a black character in the new version. The whole point of Mark's character is that he's a younger version of the main character, Ben Mears, and by extension the child version of Stephen King himself, and Ben and Mark also end up becoming a surrogate father and son. Changing Mark to a black character defeats the purpose, creating distance between the characters that didn't exist before and altering their dynamic completely.

Agreed. That decision does not bode well. The trailer looked awful, anyway. Typically over-stylized Netflix-esque garbage.

Well, Ben Mears is certainly not a handsome blonde guy in kings source material. Like David Soul in Hooper's original. Mears in the novel is dark-haired. He's described at one point as ' having thick black hair, that looks like it's been raked, rather than brushed ' , yet no one ever seems to point this out. David Soul was fine as Ben Mears, but hardly the ideal choice. But, I know people will disagree with me, but that's fine. People are fully entitled to their own opinion. 🙂✌️

@@johnbleakley4125 A change in hair color is incidental. Ben and Mark in the original miniseries could still pass for father and son, which is the point I'm making. And an actor can also dye his hair if the need should arise. Barlow wasn't bald in the novel either. But changing the race of a character crosses the line.

@@44excalibur but you are conveniently forgetting king's excellent source material and come across as just another obsessive of the 79 version, which is far from being a great adaptation of the novel. Surley anyone can tell that simply by watching the Hooper version and reading the source material. The Hooper version is an adaquate adaptation of the source material, not a great one. Hooper leaves too much out, and character names are completely changed for some obscure reason.. Matthew Burke of the novel becomes Jason Burke. Reggie Sawyer of the novel becomes Cullie Sawyer. Dr Jimmy Cody of the novel becomes Dr Bill Norton (Susan Nortons pop!) When he's absolutely nothing to do with Susan in the source material. Another completely unnecessary name change is Floyd Tibbitts suddenly becomes Ned Tebbetts. Bonnie Sawyer for some odd reason (perhaps best known only to Hooper himself!) Becomes ' Boom-Boom ' Bonnie in the mini-series. Kurt Barlow, the ' King ' vampire(pun intended!) Becomes a Nosferatu-like rip off in Hooper's version, wereas in kings material he's a talkative, normal-looking guy and nobleman. Key scenes are also left out of the Hooper version, not to mention key character's, such as Charlie Rhodes him getting attacked on his own school bus by vampire kids. And Larry Crockett's daughter, Ruthie, is completely left out of the mini-series, as well as Tony Glick jumping into his sons grave at his funeral. Hooper left so much out of his version, so it can hardly be called a ' faithful ' adaptation of kings fabulous source material. Another character from the source material completely left out of the mini-series is Dud Rogers, custodian of the Jerusalem's Lot town dump. Also, the handling of the Father Callahan character in the Hooper version is awful. Played by the late James Gallery. He's a major character in the novel, yet gets afew scenes in the Hooper version. I rest my case! 🙂✌️

@@johnbleakley4125 I'm not conveniently forgetting anything. I'm well aware of all of the things that Tobe Hooper and Sterling Siliphant left out of the 1979 version. But what you must remember is that Salem's Lot would probably be an eight to ten hour miniseries if it were adapted in totality, which I doubt CBS would have gone along with at the time. And that's not even including Jerusalem's Lot and One For the Road, which would have made it even longer. But the 1979 version still held mostly true to King's story and characters, but more importantly, was one of the most terrifying adaptations of a Stephen King novel ever. I rest my case.
