Best food: honey nuggets. If you have 3-5 bee boxes, it produces a lot of honey and 3 honey and a monster meat is a honey nuggets. it's an awesome healing item it keeps you well fed, it doesn't costs as much, and it spoils slowly.
@salendrak3 жыл бұрын
From a bonus points perspective, honey nuggets is actually negative value food! Honey x 3 (28.125 food points) + Monster Meat (valued at 12.5 if turned into a cooked egg) = 40.625 total ingredient food points. So you're losing 3.125 food points by turning those ingredients into honey nuggets. And although the nuggets have a decent 15 day shelf live, that pales in comparison to the honey itself that has a 40 day shelf life! Personally, I would rather just eat the honey raw! A better meat and honey recipe though is the Honey Ham - 30 healing (compared to nuggets 20) and 75 food points (compared to nuggets 37.5) with the same cook and spoil times as nuggets. Although it does require either a monster meat and a big meat or some other combination of more than 1.5 meat value. All that said, whether or not a given dish is good or not is situational. If you have a ton of honey and monster meat but few other ingredients and need healing, the nuggets might be a good idea. It all just depends!
@verestoyjanos50133 жыл бұрын
@@salendrak wow... but, if you use two ice instead of the honey (i use honey, cause i have more of it than of ice) it turns into positive food trade.. and a bonus point for honey nuggets: wifgrid can eat it!
@salendrak3 жыл бұрын
@@verestoyjanos5013 True, but at that point you would get much more hunger just making meatballs with a 3rd ice. Unless you need healing, in which case nuggets are probably fine. It really just all depends though - sometimes I make dishes that are objectively not as valuable just because I think it's funny 😆

I just discovered something. Catcoons are an EXTREMELY easy source of food (If you're sadistic) because unless you're a character with low damage, you can kill a catcoon before it attacks you ONCE with something as simple as an axe. This is because of the extremely long hissing animation, which allows you to get like 3 free hits in. This doesn't work if the catcoon has already hissed at something else, because then it will just attack you right away. And their hitboxes are completely broken.
@salendrak11 ай бұрын
It's true! The only downside is that they are a finite resource of food, because one they're lost their 9 lives, they're gone forever. But usually it will take you QUITE a while to exterminate them all, especially given the wide variety of renewable food sources that are also available.

Nice! I've been teaching the game (DST and RoG) to some close friends during the pandemic, and find that telling them things while playing helps, but having a separate resource like these videos is also pretty helpful. They're finding that coming back to the videos every now and then is also very useful. These guides are, by design, pretty information dense and hard to absorb in one sitting, especially if you don't have a lot of experience in the game. But when they play the game for a while and then go back to the videos, they have a lot of "ah-hah!" moments where things suddenly make a lot more sense and "click' in their heads :)

Another great way to spend way to much access monster meat on is fish sticks, since they can be used as a pretty good filler, and great for underground exploration due to the excessive amount of depth worms, and even better, if you have a base in the wilds in dst, you can use eels as the fish.

@salendrak3 жыл бұрын
I'm not a super big fan of fish, as they spoil much faster than morsels, and fishsticks has the same nutrition as pierogi but half the shelf life and double the cook time (though that last one usually doesn't matter a whole lot). That said, it is sometimes kind of fun and relaxing to go fishing, unless you're doing it during the day and have to keep dodging frogs LOL Best way to fish though is one or two times each from multiple ponds. As you fish more from the same pond, the catch time increases, which then makes it take much more time to get the same amount of fish as you could have gotten from multiple ponds.

Maybe, but the short answer is there are lots of easy ways to quickly boost your sanity. Hmmm - in DST I think you can, but in single player I don't think regular fish (the ones you get from surface level ponds) count as meat at all, unless you turn them into jerky first.

What about sticks as filler? I may misremember things but wasn't there some particular recipe where 3 sticks could be used and it was the best recipe ever? That used to be go to food item in early versions. Might not be true post-ROG though, I just can't remember the specifics.
@salendrak2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the recipe, as many don't allow sticks at all. The one you're probably thinking of though is Dragon Fruit Pie, which allows 3 twigs!

Your videos are fantastic but I have to admit I feel very incompetent with putting this advice to good use (maybe because I’m on Xbox?) I’m excited to try the game on PC when mine is built, tho, and will come back to watch again as this is certainly a lot of info!
@salendrak4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good plan to me! And don't worry if you're struggling with the game starting out. This is one of those games that has a pretty steep learning curve, not because there is anything particularly difficult or complex, but rather because there are SOOOOOO many little things you need to be mindful of that, not accounted for, will lead to an early grave! But definitely come back regularly, and use the "Contents" section in each video description to brush up on topics you need to work on :)

Biggest thing is to always have armor on when fighting anything - especially when you're just starting to learn how to fight thing. But beyond that, all it takes is a little practice and experience, and you'll be a fighting pro!!

10:36 the big meat+3 berries is not worth it. If cooked, the berries restore 12.5 hunger, like carrots. I think about the maximum value of each food. For example, red caps. If raw, they hurt you 20 HP and restore 12.5 hunger. If cooked, they restore 1 health and hurt your sanity by 10. Mixing these number and the maximun value of the red cap is 1 HP and 12.5 hunger. It's a mix of raw and cooked red cap.
@salendrak3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's different approaches on how to calculate these food values. I always treat red caps as zero for everything, as there really isn't any situation where you would want to eat them either cooked or raw for normal food purposes. But that's my approach - your mileage may vary!

Just in case Don't kill rabbits as you'll gain naughtiness points. Rather if u have extra food just let the rabbits die in a chest and collect the meat 3 days later if died
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
You would have to kill a LOT of rabbits to get enough naughtiness points to spawn Krampus! And keep in mind that your naughtiness decays over time and resets back to zero. So kill some rabbits, then wait a while before killing anything else that is an innocent creature, then go back to killing things. You'll get a warning sound that's a soft hissing noise if you're getting close to the limit.
@unnamedgaming6335 Жыл бұрын
@@salendrak well 6 points of naughtiness a day is quite low(decrease) when I'd catch 8 everyday and murder them. That's why I make Jerry out of 6 and 2 for crock pot which allows me to get 0 naughtiness points and still have plenty of food for next day.

Isn't dragonpie the best recipe though? More healing than pierogi. More hunger and shelf life than meatballs. Can use 3 twigs for filler. And perhaps most importantly you don't have to do combat to get it.
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
It can be pretty hard to get early on in the game though. Once you're established and have a good stockpile of seeds, it can certainly be good, but farming in single player isn't very time or resource efficient, and lots of people don't like doing it.
@Hedning1390 Жыл бұрын
@@salendrak How is it not time efficient when you don't have to go out to combat or just wondering around hoping to spawn glaciers. I saw your gobbler farm and I'm sure there are other such exploits/contraptions that can provide some free food, but a new player (or even intermediate like me) won't know them unless you specifically go over them. For dragonpie you have to collect on average 3 fruit (I assume) and 3 twigs per pie. 6 collections at your base and 2 bird feedings. Seems pretty quick to me. I think you underestimate how scary and dangerous combat is for a new player. I just watched a 1-200 days video and the player died to hounds, charlie, penguins twice, bunnymen and a tentacle. That's 5 out of 6 deaths to combat. Also with all the combat; things like meaty stew only does half of the work. After 2 days you will have taken more than 12 damage even if your main newbie tactic is to run away, so you have to spend time making healing items as well. Dragonpie does double duty filling both the healing and hunger need.
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
@@Hedning1390 Maybe it's just my luck, but whenever I try to mass produce dragonfruit, I end up feeding most of the crop to the bird just to be able to replant what I just harvested with few left over for pies!
