Thanks! I've never been particularly a fan of "optimal" gameplay, especially for a game like this. Focusing too much on just what is "best" causes you to miss out on tons of other stuff the game has to offer. And since there's no leader boards or endboss to rush towards, what's the benefit of optimizing your gameplay if you're already well above the threshold of easily surviving in the game?!

Really liked your videos! I wanna rewind and watch nearly everything you do in these playthroughs. I mostly have to toggle the speed to x0,25 or sth. You could go much slower, trying to see what you used for that big of a fire, figuring out how many hits does it take to kill the bird etc. was kinda challenging even with x0,25 speed :) 40-60 mins of this will still be watched by me! Hope you are enjoying doing this as much as we enjoy watching! Can’t wait to see the upcoming videos of f yours!

Doh - sorry about the fast parts being so fast! It's a constant struggle for me to try to balance what do do fast versus what to do slow. I don't want these videos to become too much of a slogfest plowing through mundane tasks, but at the same time want to make sure interesting parts are highlighted. Good news though - I'll be working on a guide video later this week on Combat that will cover things like hits to kill various mobs - and I promise none will be sped up...well, let's me honest, a few might be sped up...just a little bit!! 😆

Jeez. Been watching a lot of your videos the past couple days and decided to pick up this game again. I'm day 18? or so with one crock pot, two drying racks, no fridge, no moleworms. Struggling on food and sanity on a daily basis. Was off to a good start mapping out the island and then I dunno what happened from there..

Keep at it! Experience and practice will definitely improve your ability to juggle the various demands the game will place upon you. But bit by bit you'll get better, and soon enough lasting a year and beyond will be a breeze!

I don’t know how you outlined your map so quickly… I spent the full 20 days of autumn outlining my map haha. It is a very elongated world, to be fair.

Yeah, world gen certainly can make a difference. Were you exploring at night or hanging out at a fire? Stopping to gather stuff can also really slow you down, especially if you go out of your way to get things.

Smart move! A spring start is more challenging than an autumn start, and summer as your second season is MUCH harder than summer as your fourth season!

Ok, update on situation, im somehow on day 25, im basically peeing myself right now because i just know deerclops is coming, im scared, i have no food, help. Also i died 2 times but got resurected by the amulet and touchstone. I got my base done (a few crockpots, meat dryers or something idk what they are called and some ice boxes) and i have a bunch of beefalo near my base so i guess i can get meat from them. But once again, im scared of Deerclops... not because hes much of a threat, its just because he can destroy my base :(

I love your base layout, it looks so neat and tidy... I have troubles doing mine in this game.. I am usually very slow at it too.. i usually never have a base by day 10 lol cause i keep getting crappy world gens. Are the buckets of poop in ROG more efficient than just using the poop itself like in the vanilla DS game.

Yeah, that's just a layout I settled on a long time ago and just kind of stuck with me. It's what I'm familiar with so I can put it together really fast. Bucket-o-Poops let you fertilize 10 times but cost only three manure, but they also require bone fragments and logs. So honestly not sure if they are more efficient or not, but I just think they're funny. And you can leave them on the ground and they don't attract flies LOL But as far as fertilizer goes, they're the same value as manure.

Why 4 crock pots? I usually do 1 cp. 2 fridges (1 for ice), and 6 racks. ALWAYS have too much food.

I like 4 because then I can cook up, say, 4 bacon and eggs all at once, then grab them and go out for a while. 2-4 is pretty standard for a main base, but 1-2 also works, especially if you're doing fast cooking dishes a lot.

Only played the base game when it first released. Recently got the complete pack, so watched you beginner's tips playlist and started the Wagstaff LP. All great stuff and very helpful! A few questions: 1. Would you recommend the Geometric Placement mod for new players? 2. Does gaining XP in RoG unlock the SW/Hamlet characters? (The characters that just req. XP, not special tasks like for unlocking Woodlegs.) 3. Is there anyway to make F attack everything, and not just already hostile mob? I have a disability, and it's difficult to hit certain button combinations (in this case, CTRL-F). I didn't see anyway to remap CTRL-F in the Controls option. Any help in this regard? Again, enjoying this LP, and look forward to future beginner tip videos!

Thanks - glad you're finding the videos helpful! Regarding your questions: 1. Probably not - I've never personally used it myself, mostly because I find the grid overlay it uses to be graphically out of place and rather immersion breaking. Main reason to use it is to allow really tight structure placement, but I've never really found that particularly necessary. 2. No - but it's a bit more complicated than that. There's a cap on the amount of XP you can earn in each DLC: 1600 for Vanilla, 1920 for RoG, 2560 for SW, and 3200 for Hamlet. The XP you have is shared across all versions, so if you started from scratch with zero XP and started playing in, say, Hamlet, you would progressively unlock all the Vanilla characters, then Wigfrid (RoG), then the SW characters, then the Hamlet ones. But if you just play RoG, you'll hit the cap of 1920 and then go no further unless you play a subsequent DLC. Does that make sense? 3. I'm guessing that there might be mods that do that, but it doesn't look like the default controls allow you to change that. At least not that I'm aware of. I have heard of people changing Attack to SPACE and regular action to F though. Would there maybe be a different key combination that might be easier for you?
