Salento, Colombia: Land of Tall Palm Trees and Coffee Farms 🇨🇴

Our next stop in Colombia was Salento- the homeland of the tallest palm trees in the entire world as well as multiple traditional Colombian coffee farms. We spent our first day in Salento in the Cocora Valley, frolicking through moving clouds and gangly palm trees. Everything was green and lush, and the whole place reminded us much of a Dr. Seuss book. We spent our second day in Salento touring a traditional coffee farm in the Colombian countryside, and Chad was incredibly happy to drink some quality Colombian coffee after drinking instant coffee for the past two years. It was overall a very successful trip through Salento, and we are now off to our next city in Colombia! 🇨🇴

Chad: I know you read the comments so I wanted to give you some advice that worked for me over the past 60 years. Like Claire, I use to get bummed out over the negativity of others, whether intentional or unintentional. It took me almost 50 years to figure out that the judgement of others is exactly what it is - their judgement. It's really that simple! If you allow others to influence or affect your emotions or thoughts of your own self judgement, then you are giving your power away. Once you do that, it's hard to get your power back. Ignoring others is only part of how you keep your power. It involves a conscious effort. Just be cognitively aware. For example, you hear or read some negative comment such as "why don't you get a haircut, or a job." If you're already sensitive about how you look or your self worth, that comment can negatively affect you. So, having awareness of this, you say to yourself: "I look great, and I feel wonderful about myself, and you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but it is only your opinion or truth, not mine." As nurse I encounter many people in pain, depressed, angry and miserable. When I get shift reports from the night-nurse, I sometimes hear them say: this patient is so ungrateful, rude, needy, etc. I see their exhaustion. I get that patient and have a totally different experience because I never allow their negativity to affect me. Think about it - this patient is "ungrateful" according to the night nurse. Really? My ego does not need that patient's approval, so I don't see them as ungrateful. I see them as sick, and I have just as much compassion, love, and patience for them as I have for another patient. So be aware of negativity and send it back where it came from, because it does not belong to you. Sorry about the length of this comment, but I sure hope it can help you. It helps me!

Congratulations Chad and Claire Nice job I"m peruvian and I have visited Colombia in fourth times, the Antioquia region is amazing, greener and rich in coffee, I recommend you Medellin, the second Colombian city surrounded for green mountains with a pleasant temperature called the eternal spring town, here you can ascend to Parque Arvi in teleferic, also you can take a bus to Guatape, almost three hours, here you can ascend to 1,000 steps to reach the top of a little mountain called peñon, don"t forget to taste the famous bandeja paisa , a complete dish with avocado, sausages, banana, rice, beans, pork and the tipical arepas made of corn flour, Greeting from Lima Peru

Salento looks like a wonderful place!!! The palm trees and the little round cocoon like "nests" to sit in are amazing! I think that coffee farm is a little piece of heaven on earth!!!! People are jealous of what you are doing so don’t mind them. They will ask you questions like “how do you afford to travel when you don’t even have permanent jobs?“ it’s really none of their business so I don’t think you should even answer. I used to have questions like that when I was working as a nurse and working hard to save money for my trips. They stop asking questions after a while and now they love getting my pictures that I send through email. Remember that not everyone can travel like you do and even if you really work hard as a you tuber, you are having such a great fun. So keep doing what you’re doing and don’t answer those negative comments. Jealousy do that to people.

Hey Claire and Chad, we found y’all on YT a few months ago as we were exploring the West Coast and have enjoyed your content and adventures. Definitely gave us some ideas as we were planning trips to various national parks. We enjoy your videos and how you come across as authentically yourself. You’re very relatable, which is tough to find on social media. Try to focus on the positive comments and people who give constructive feedback. It's so hard to be around negativity but one thing that my mentor has repeatedly said is, "The more people you reach, the more hate you will get. some people will always have to b negative and mean it's just their makeup and jealousy is another factor. so as hard as it is when reading those comments just think the people behind them are not worth giving any of your thoughts / time to. u two are doing what u want and living your dream and are so happy that's what live and living is about , not sitting writing nasty comments.

What great experiences you both are going through. What you both provide is an experience with an emotional feel through your eyes since we don’t all have the capability to travel. Try not to look at the comments as either positive/ negative. Take it for what they are comments. Learn and grow from them it will teach both of you and validate more of what kind of person you both are growing into. As long as you both continue to do what you love and what makes you happy that is what matters. You are creating memories that will be told from generations to come and no one not even a comment can take that away.

Aw…. I felt sorry for both of you faced negativity. Im no expert but I comment to make you both feel better! In this world, there are always plus and minus, up and down, front and back, good and bad, more more more just similar like positive and negative. Why focus on the downside when u can focus on the upside?~ This has the same meaning of why focus on something not important when u can focus on something important? Those negativity can be covered by the positivity ~ Those thumbs down button can be thumbs up when u rotate your phone upside down. Just positive think that those drunk people liked your video by watching your video upside down ~ thats positive thinking! Wish you to know im one of your positive audience

That wooden Bridge scared me. I am sorry about the mean comments coming your way. I also have the same struggle. I am thankful for the block or remove option on KZbin, but I don't have an Instagram account. I keep reminding myself that most people are good and we have very few bad eggs that make it worse for everybody. Also people who are miserable love company. You’re both absolutely adorable! I’m glad you had such a good time in Colombia. 🇨🇴 ☕️ 🌴 My parents are Colombian but I grew up in the states. During my childhood I would go to Colombia every few years and I would stay for a few months during my summer break. As an adult I haven’t been able to go as often due to work and family obligations. I will be returning this spring with my family and I’m hoping to go to the eje cafetero region as I’ve never been there before. I can’t wait to explore Salento, Filandia, a coffee farm, and the Cocora Valley. Did you go to the coffee region from Medellin or Bogota or another city?
