The collapse of Margin debt leads to a decrease in stock prices and trigger a wave of selling as investors try to cover their losses, Buying a stock is easy, but buying the right stock without a time-tested strategy is incredibly hard. Hence what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist? I’ve been trying to grow my portfolio of $145K for sometime now, my major challenge is not knowing the best entry and exit strategies ... I would greatly appreciate any suggestions

I am currently preparing for my CFA LEVEL 2 exams in June 2019. Would like to know about the role of Research Department in an Investment Bank and how it is integrated with sales and Trading department? I would really appreciate if you can throw some colour on the Investment Management industry in your forthcoming videos. Great video Afzal. It would be great if you could make a video on breaking into sales&trading from other indistrues with several years of experience (what steps should be taken and what skills are required). Is it even possible? I see that most financial careers (IB, trading, even consulting) hire fresh graduates and it is harder to get in if you are, let's say, 3-4 years out of school and working in a different industry (although you have a degree in Finance).

If you're a sales person, you sell derivates, stocks and bonds to clients. In the case of a derivate, against who are your clients betting ? Against the investment bank ? Against other clients ? In trading, you try to create value for the investment bank by buying derivates, stocks and bonds for the bank and not for a client, is that right ?

I don't understand the big picture. Most investing and trading nowadays is done online, electronically. Why would institutional investors call up a brokerage firm's sales and trading department to verbally discuss some trades(and pay higher fees I'm sure) then just logging on and making the trade themselves? Honestly I'm confused about how a "trading floor" exists in 2024. I understand clients seeking out a financial advisor, or a hedge fund, to manage some of their money but I don't understand the idea of a client calling up a "trading floor" instead of just entering some trades online, or opening an account with an advisor or fund manager.

Do these roles all have the same level of prestige? or would there be higher requirements for the traders? I assume that they would because they take more risk. The second question, is my current university choices are Southampton/Bristol for my firm (still can't decide) and my insurance is reading. If I somehow mess up my exams, would Reading still be a good enough university or would I have to retake my A-levels?
@morganhunt49645 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Lloyd a number of investment banks only accept first attempts when screening CVs so if you mess up that much it may not be worth resitting. Bristol would be better than Southampton. At the end of the day university prestige is only one part of the puzzle. If you take the right opportunities and network correctly you’re in with a shot.

Hi Mr Hussein what I'm trying to get my head around is why do banks need more traders. At the end of the day is it not just a person on a desk looking at data and making guesses.
