I’m a scouser from Toxteth in Liverpool, my partner lives in Pendleton in Salford in one of the tower blocks facing Clarendon Park so I spend a lot time up there, I agree it’s rough but if you’d walked ten minutes away from there to the heart of Salford Quays you would of seen a different world, luxury apartment blocks, bars, restaurants and shops/ well kept clean streets with plenty of leisure/ sport/ art activities available. Like most cities Salford has its good and bad areas.
@Roberto-zero5 ай бұрын
Same with Liverpool, the city centre has become gentrified even just north of town on the docks is all expensive apartments but go down the road and it’s all poor areas and estates . Gentrification makes me sick cos it’s basically excluding the working classes from there own city and replacing it with soulless exclusive flats and bars filled with ppl who are just there to make loads of money and bleed our city dry. Look at London now. perfect example. It’s just full of pretentious muppets who are happy to pay ridiculous amounts of money for little flats and all the cockneys have been pushed out

Hiya Tans--You can't keep away from canals it seems and I hope you enjoyed your well deserved break in Venice. Thanks for coming back to scrape a little more off Manchester's overdone media spray job, so we can see a bit of its substance..This area, Pendleton, Weaste was 'Salford-6' during my first 7 yrs,. and with its 'Port of Manchester', known by all as Salford Docks, was the beginning of 'Trafford Park' which was the biggest industrial estate in Europe in its heyday. The area was seen as the 'centre' of Manchester by a million workers and foreign Maritime visitors manning the cargo ships. Pendleton, a hill in the centre of the area, was famous for its Pendleton 'fault' though the only shake I remember was when United scored. This area is where Karl Marx and Frederick Engles lived, drank, and did much of their importand work and planning. 'Salford' comes from 'Salt-Fiord' as the 'bank' of the river 'Irwell'--(then the 'Luna') is where the Roman soldiers 'salery-(ia)' was based and where they picked up their monthly 'salery' which was the invading Romans' currency at the time. They were stopped in this area for many,many years on their march North to scotland.---So nice one Tans, you picked a good, forgotten'?? and interesting area for your vid! Bravo!⛏

@@nionegriffin People mistake the rivalry, the reason Mancs and Scousers originally clashed goes back before Old Trafford and Anfield. Manchester used to have to pay import/export fees for goods coming in/out of Liverpool ports until somebody decided to build the Manchester ship canal 50 miles inland. BILLY, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, BUT WHY HAVEN'T YOU BEEN TO PENNYWELL IN SUNDERLAND IN THE NORTH EAST??? edit: OOPS CAPS 😅😊
@stevefaragher39724 ай бұрын
it's mixture of neglect by councils, councillors not engaging with their electorate, cut funding from tory govt, crappy useless social landlords, and people not having any civic, political engagement or pride in their areas, its the same all over the UK, will it ever change Billy? Not sure Lad

Not to worry we have a true Labour government in power now. Things can only get?

Don’t know why it skipped to Salford Quays for a few seconds You won’t get a house there for less than 500,000k it’s a prestigious waterfront area near media city . The apartments opposite Gnome island in that segment are circa 2,500 a month. The rest is true though.

Where you said it was a ‘public park’ was where two blocks of flats was. One was Pear Tree Court which was brought down a few years back. Deffo letting the area fall apart, move everyone away to Little Hulton again so they can re build and move in the more affluent.

I live in Swinton - Salford has definitely improved in the last 25 years or so, but especially under the last Labour government. The last 14 years have slowed things down.

Once bought a telly from there in the early 90s when it was rough. It had a raffle ticket stuck on it. The bloke said he won it. I asked him if he was he likely to win a video recorder, too!

If The Labour Party put a Wheelie Bin up as candidate the people of Salford would vote for it. Its sad how Salford has ended up.
