I’m 58 and since I was around 9 I had flaky, itchy, painful red eyelids. I started using Vaseline since and that worked for me. I switched to coconut oil about 8 years ago. It’s sad that doctors never said anything. I started using Vaseline on my own. So far no issues. Unfortunately I started dry eyes this year.

Vaseline made my eye lids swell up so bad. Didn’t even take care of the flaky eye lids.

After using mild retinol cream on my eyes and lids for 2 weeks( 3xweek), I noticed some dryness. Applied organic castor oil and woke up with almost shut eyes from severe swelling. Dr said that I had an allergic reaction to castor oil. So just aware, that the lids are very sensitive and even clean and natural products can cause issues. Healing now with allergy meds and steroid medicine. This was scary!

Thank you, I developed some severe flaking, burning, and crusting, it's just getting worse no matter what, I've been to two doctors to no avail, I have been using very natural products for a couple years right about when it all started, including organic castor oil, I'll stop for awhile to see if it helps, thank you.

Same happened to me except I’m not certain which product caused the irritation. Now I have dermatitis on my eyelid causing my eyelid to droop slightly because I can’t open it all the way ):

@@jasminalvarado2212 Same, and steroids are dangerous for the eyes long-term. I'm using a 'calcinurin inhibitor' cream suggested by my doc in Australia, (called 'Elidel' here), & the redness and itch are gone very quickly, and it's supposedly safe to use on eyelids, at least longer term than steroids. Skin texture still leathery, but might heal with time. I'm going to try an elimination diet too to prevent it coming back.

I have struggled for years with what my doctors called pink eye. I’ve tried many antibiotic and they gave me intense headaches. Iam 74 and just learned about bletheritus and my optometrist gave me steroids. My eyes get extremely blurry so Thankyou for your recommendations. I’ve had Caracas done and also have glaucoma. So it’s been an awful struggle. I will certainly suggest you to my optometrist. Sadly my doctors seem to have been really sloppy. So glad I found you. Do you recommend Lucien for the eyes?

Excellent information. I think I caused the painful outbreak of blepharitis by a "natural" hair color I've used a couple of times. My scalp has been bothering me. And even castcoff tiny yellow nodules. I thought it was just my dry eye ramping up because I had no idea hair products could affect my eyes! I even went through the expense of Lipiflow, which just cleaned out my meibomian glands, temporarily angering my dry eye more! Ugh. Your videos are life savers. Thank you!

Thankyou for this video. It really helped. I have that condition you talked about called Blepharitis. I didn't know that until watching the video. I went to the walk in clinic this morning, and he didn't know what to call it. He wouldn't even look it up on his computer right there. Was a terrible appt, but at least I got some antibiotics and I will never see him again!

I started using retinol a couple weeks ago and since then I started having very dry and flaky skin around my eyes. But the retinol is working really well on the rest of my skin. In the beginning it made my skin worse because that’s how the product works, but now it has all cleared up really nicely except for around my eyes. Should I just wait a little longer and see if it will work on my eyes too? Or should I just stop using it around my eyes?

I'm 52 just about 53 and about 23 years ago starting on my forehead it used to get very dry go right down around my eyes and around my wrist. Mostly in the dryness of winter. And I was able to keep it under control putting coconut oil around my eyes carefully as once it gets in your eyes it's a mess. Now it's the middle of summer and it's starting up already it usually has to be dry for this but the humidity is sometimes near 100%?? I however also suffer from Crohn's and Colitis lost my entire large intestine have a bag on my belly with chronic pain and been disabled for the last 28 years... Bletherits sounds very similar..

In a more recent video, she says not to use tea tree oil because it degrades the meibomian glands. That seems to contradict what she says here.
@EyeSchoolwithDrD Жыл бұрын
there was some controversy around tea tree oil following a study that showed it could be toxic to the meibomian glands. however, since then many clinicians have refuted that study since it was not shown in actual patients and the low levels in OTC preparations are less likely to cause damage, especially if the demodex present necessitate intervention. i have also found clinically that it can be tough for patients to tolerate, especially if their lids are very sensitive or irritated. that being said, it is very widely used and accepted...especially in lower concentrations. i do use it clinically, but sparingly so.

@@angelhellokitti yes, stress and inflammation are definitely involved. I've just had some relief from what's called 'Elidel' here in Australia, a calcinurin inhibitor, which they say is ok to use on eyelids. Skin is still a bit stiff and leather-like though, but will take time to heal I guess. Now I'm about to try an elimination diet approach. I'm moisturising with aloe vera gel, and sometimes vaseline or coconut oil, as anything else just makes it worse. Good luck with yours - hope you get to the bottom of it soon. xo
