Girls I am a fan since 1956 I am 80 years old. I was and still are a Elvis fanatic. I have every thing written and recorded about him. I want to thank you for your wonderful book. It was a profound revelation to me. I had felt there was so much more to his story. He went through a lot he was so misjudged. I can't thank you enough for what you have done he deserved your book, you have given us a gift, God Bless.

I’m 77, just turned this week. I’ve been a fan since my sister brought home a record of Elvis when I was 13. I loved going to his movies. I used to get mad at the movies when the girls would scream cause I wanted to hear his voice.

It is always reassuring to hear Elvis supported and understood by sensitive, intuitive people - both women and men alike! Most of his devoted fans 'got' him and we will always promote him and share with others all the exemplary and noble qualities Elvis personified. He was not a complainer. Nor did he blame others for his plight. He stoically carried on, even when his body was failing and his spirit was defeated. The world used him up. He reveled in his fame for most of the twenty short years his star shone but life got the best of him. Actually, his broken body failed him. His story is still not completely told. Sally is to be commended for her well-researched book on Elvis' health. It explains so much. You ladies are correct. He was so much more than a joke in a cloak who died in a way that should have been kept private. So MUCH of the life Elvis strove to keep private should not have been revealed by his MM associates and his ex girlfriends. Privacy and loyalty are the only two things Elvis demanded and I understand why. He gave ALL of himself without reservation. There's been no one like him before or since and there never will be another like Elvis again. I am happy Sally Hoedel plans on documenting Elvis' generosity. The one remaining unexplored aspect of Elvis that needs to be told is just how intelligent Elvis was. He was not an ill-educated hillbilly hick. He graduated high school. But continued feeding his keen mind with information on a wide range of topics all the way up until his untimely death. He was a thoughtful articulate speaker, yet was discouraged from publicly speaking by the cretin manager! It is reported Elvis had a photographic memory. He knew thousands of songs. His skill at producing music has also not fully been explored. He would astutely memorize every movie script, not just his parts. His thirst for knowledge was endless. To think he did not have the world of resources at his fingertips as we do today. He had to buy his books. It is disturbing knowing that his people were so threatened by Elvis spiritual seeking, they stole his books and burned them, rather than allow this bright man to broaden his mind!!! Elvis was a man afr better than the small-minded and insensitive circle that surrounded him. Even they all deserted him in the last three years. He was so sad about how all the brightness had gone away. And yes, he was responsible for much of the change and isolation. But his life was more than a story of a self indulgent pill popper. Anyway, thank you lovely ladies for doing your part in raising Elvis up. He was so much more than his reputation.

@@debra2700 Elvis’s relatives married other people… meaning they do not have the same genetic makeup as Elvis. Meaning they could have gotten healthier genes from their other half parent and their genetics. Some died young and some didn’t… but ALL didn’t have the grueling schedule Elvis did either. Also, Sally’s book came out at the almost same time that Benjamin, Lisa Marie’s son, passed away and Lisa Marie was extremely reclusive during that time so that also doesn’t fit your narrative. Lisa Marie is Elvis’s daughter and could have also had a long life but didn’t…. She died at 54 & medical treatments, life and genetics played a role in that. Sally is just trying to shed some light on Elvis’s case as well.

THIS is my favorite interview so far!!! Excellent questions asked, immeasurable camaraderie between you all, and such respect talking about a very difficult topic for all of us. Sally’s book is phenomenal . At first it was not for me , I didn’t want to hear that that Elvis would have died anyway. After reading the book I realized Elvis was always the guy that I thought he was . He didn’t OD. He was trying to manage a rigorous career while dealing with a bad hand of genetics. Sally has opened our eyes to this and confirmed what our boy was and always was . She’s completely instrumental is his legacy . She is so approachable and genuine too. You girls did your homework. You are extremely professional , very humbling, and immensely respectful. I feel the world on its axis moved a little with this interview. Well done❤❤❤ BTW Those Elvis Girls looked hot too as well as Sally ⚡️⚡️⚡️Just saying 💅🏻

I have read Destined to Die Young. And, knowing a little bit about health, I am impressed with her putting forward complicated medical information that was not commonly known then, and is not even now, all while managing to humanize Elvis. This is a sad story, but Sally did a great job with sensationalizing it.

George Klein said on the air in 1989, that Gladys told him that Elvis would sleepwalk, and that when they were on the road if Elvis did sleepwalk to just talk to him very calmly and very softly..Elvis come on back and to go back to sleep. She worried about him 😢 Also, after seeing Lorenzo’s Oil, who is diagnosed with a rare and incurable disease, and the parents researched themselves to find the cure which saves their boy and re-writes medical history, that they (doctors) are not the end all.

Jimmie mentioned in Jan. 1958 he had spent the night at Graceland. It was 2 in the afternoon when he came down the backstairs and seen Gladys at the kitchen counter. She was sitting there with a beer. She died Aug. 1958 of that same year. Jimmie was called to preach at Graceland in Jan. 1958. He is a very interesting nice guy to listen to! He is 87 years old.

Lol.. protecting Elvis image with BS, it's a hypothesis. Ask her for proof E had Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency there is none y'all. Sally's tapped a market of romantics who don't want to think of Elvis a certain way. Utter rubbish. Read Anita Wood's book and see how he was into those pills as early as '57, people think he got hooked in the army. He loved the feelin', and didn't realize the dangers. Body shutdown from abuse, fatty liver, intestines stopped working to digest food properly. Exactly what too many opioids over a long time do to ya. Don't get sucked in to this Elvis fans. The TRUTH is in first hand accounts over a long period of time. They're all their if you look for 'em on YT. Elvis wouldn't stop taken 'em.

You could by dexadrine over the counter in the 70s, being thin was stressed! I had insomnia as a child, still do and I'm in my 60s! Didn't want to sleep alone if I didn't have to. Having someone there would help me sleep better. Did sleep walk as a child, my parents put chairs in front of our doors so I wouldn't out. I also have colitis! They are linking these syndromes together instead of looking at them separately. Because of my own issues I feel for Elvis having to care for so many people and to be Elvis, I'm shocked he lived as long as he did! The gut pain must have been tremendous and why he needed pain medication. He probably took less than he needed to keep the pain at bay. Very sad...

Regarding "processed food" -- people have been eating processed food going back many generations; people were ignorant of how the food they bought was made & processed. And the food industry wanted to keep it that way. Trans fats were invented in the 1890s and entered the food supply in the 1910s & World War I brought about new methods of food processing, including canned and frozen foods. Government subsidies for corn and soy led to a food industry with a financial incentive to use high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, modified corn starches, & to produce lots of highly processed (and unhealthy) foods. Packaged bread, processed meat, cookies, canned pork & beans, various cheeses, TV dinners, & a very long list of other foods. Processed food ads promised to save time for housewives, fast food restaurants were everywhere, and processed foods were mass distributed. So don't think that "back then" or "years ago" there were no processed foods. We were saturated with it. And I am not inferring that a healthier diet would have changed any of Elvis genetically inherited issues, but truth be told, the Southern diet is very unhealthy. And let's not forget about the spraying of crops with DDT!!

Billy flips depending which way the winds blowin'. Watch All The Kings Men where he talks about Gladys, he says the very things the movie shows her as. Then for his review says the opposite. He had his neck out cause he wasn't invited y'all to the premiere. Not that I think he'd gone anyway, but I reckon he'd have just wanted to receive an invite. It would have been a courtesy. Not that the movie portrayed Colonel accurately anwyay. Good story though and it's made a lot of money for EPE and by percentage ownership to the family. Set 'em all up for life after LMP passin'.
