What great footage Peter. So cool to see how these salmon act in shallow waters.

The seem pretty spooked to me, their manner says "nervous" to me, but who knows maybe they would behave the same without the fishing pressure.

Yes, that would be great footage, unfortunately the cameras on drones are very wide angle and it's hard to zoom in without losing detail.

Very cool footage, any idea what the anglers use here?

Most are float fishing with soft beads or cured roe.

Nice to know there seems to be a healthy return of Chum salmon. If there is a no retention ban on, what would the population be? If this is just 8 minutes of a season how many Chum do you need for open retention?
@petrhermanadventures95092 жыл бұрын
Chum did open a couple of weeks later after escapement goals were met. I'm not sure what the actual numbers are, but the Vedder is hatchery enhanced and usually gets plenty of chum. Most anglers don't retain more than one or two per season anyway.

I have fished almost every region in bc over my time spent in the Provence . Pretty much all on the company dime as I would set my entire sales trips over what species, what river , what time Ie winter steel head, gold and bulkly Chum fall kitamat Sheena springs eary fall. Blue back , straight of Georgia summer off texada. If fished alberni inlet for sockeye. I could go one. I never got to north east part of provence. Thats all i missed.I had great customers that just wanted to share the gift they had in their region. Some of the best years off my life. Once you fuck it up , you don't get to go back Respect the world's greatest salmon stocks and they will be sustainable.

Sounds like you've been leading a dream life. I'm sure there was a lot of hard work along the way too. I've had people comment that they wish their life was more like mine. Not many realize that I work construction 45 hours per week on average.
@stevebashakis89652 жыл бұрын
Seems to me like that kind of fishing where the fish are pretty much sitting ducks due to low water conditions should not be allowed for any species. Water condition adjustments to seasons make sense to me.
@petrhermanadventures95092 жыл бұрын
I agree with you in some ways, but not completely. There was another spot further upstream where 100 people would line up every day and target fish that were stuck there due to low water. It was total insanity and resulted in a lot of foul hooked fish. This particular spot, people were being reasonably ethical in my opinion. I'm not sure where exactly the line should be drawn, but the water levels were exceptionally low this year and hopefully we don't see that again for a decade or two.
@ds-sj2bm2 жыл бұрын
i understand you delayed the footage to reduce fishing pressure because in your words "it would turn into the next fishermans corner" hopefully it wont be turned into that next year after this video.
@petrhermanadventures95092 жыл бұрын
In a normal year there is another foot or two of water and the fish don't get held up in the Canal like that. I think you have a valid concern, but I don't believe it will be the case.

Who cares be positive ans leave the man alone to do his videos everyone already knows all the spots on the Vedder none are secrets.

I live in Scotland, West coast. Our Salmon are on the point of extinction, Salmon farms up the whole western coast have filled the waters with masive infestations of sea lice, viruses and other diseases. The smolts are being wiped out before they reach the feeding grounds in the North. Mature fish surviving the tribulations of their Northern migration, have to endure the return, many die. The fish making it back to our rivers now, are a vestigial remnant of the runs that existed only 50 years ago and the data is there to back this up. Our Salmon are facing extinction. Salmon farming is however a profitable business but only because the industry does not cover its costs, Its unsustainable.
@petrhermanadventures95092 жыл бұрын
research here has found the same issues with fish farms. When they were shut down in Scnadinavia, they moved to B.C. Not only do they harm salmon stocks, but also have a demand for herring, which are on the verge of collapse. Our government has promised to phase the farms out, but so far it's just promises and very little is actually being done. The deadlines keep moving. Nothing got done for decades until the first nations got involved.
