I detest using additional weight. Constant snagging & fear of becoming a 'lifter' , its a slippery slope. 😂 Why not just use a fast sink mow tip and heavy flys? Maybe not enough time to sink in short tight situations?? Appreciate all your info and everything I've learned from you...tight lines...🤗

Good question! The answer depends on conditions, the water you are fishing, and how you want to fish. In the current flows, a light mow tip and unweighted flies seems to work well in the classic run. However, for the deeper slots, you might need a bit of weight to help or a big mend.

Trying to swing flies on the salmon river is frustrating unless you want to stand in one spot, repeating a 20' swing. And of course, someone has to jump in immediately below you, having no clue about swinging flies. Trying to explain it turns into an argument.

It can definitely be a frustrating experience during the heart of the run. That said, there's a lot of water and usually, if you ask, many fellow anglers oblige. Just the other day, a young angler was coming off a stretch to re-rig and it was good swing water so we asked him if he'd mind if we share - we capped the day off with a king on the swing!

Fishing reports are never accurate, ask 3 different people get 3 different answers. Remember 10% of the anglers catch 90% of the fish or something like that. I’ve got no skin in the game and live about 45 minutes away and heard the fishing has been pretty lousy especially if you’re paying $100 for the privilege to catch taxpayer funded salmon. Maybe the new moon on oct 3 ish will trigger something who knows.

They don't call them "fish tales" for nothing. All joking aside, we do our best to tell it like it is when it comes to our fishing reports. We're on the cusp of the run...just need a push of water and some colder temps.

Jay gives honest, good, educational fishing tips. His fishing reports are accurate. Things vary on spots, current, individual, presentation, flies, etc. Trust in Jay! If you know, you know. If you don't, ask. You might get lucky and get great advice. I did well.

@@erikpresto6432 been fishing the salmon river since the early 90’s, Jay seems very knowledgeable and I enjoy his videos. Would even hire him for a drift boat trip. I’m just saying fishing reports vary greatly and by the time he uploaded this video things have already changed. Then you got the guys making $100 a fisherman who I’m sure put an optimistic spin on things. That’s all, not bashing Jay in any way.
