Imagine, you’re doing your run, about 57 miles in, you’re tired but your doing good, no one behind you or ahead of you, your alone in the race. Then, in the distance, you hear a faint voice, kind of a yell, you try to make out what you hear, and then you realize what is being said. “WHO’S GONNA CARRY THE BOATS, AND THE LOGS”, it’s David Goggins, he runs past you at incredible speeds, “CANT HURT BOAT CREW 2” he yells. Idk why I made this, just felt like it lol

I agree, and I believe racing community for the most part are very supportive. In the few races I've run the atmosphere was amazing and everyone cheered on irrespective of age, color, race etc. It was all in zest to make the finish line. I'm addicted ever since.

How's it going for you guys? I'm just starting too. I'm 31 but my cardio is terrible and I'm heavy. 5'9" and weigh 195. Former smoker thats mainly done a lot of upper body strengthening and worked leg muscles but NEVER ran unless it was for a warm-up. The most I can run is like 5 minutes straight and in working on losing weight. What's your journey been like?

giggityeffyou man I’m 5’10” and 250 and feel like I’m in pretty good shape. Also, 31. I’m strong as hell but yea the cardio could use some work. I think I need to put the weights down a bit and focus on cardio more. I bulked you a lot in the past year. Fat and muscle. I need to get back down to 210 where I was a year and a half ago.

After just an 11 hour race, the only thing I can easily keep down is beer (water is an irritant by then). All food does not look, feel or taste good and my throat closes to rice-grain size. The next day I eat the grocery store, doors and all.

Courtney I love the pain cave or the strength building place. For me it is a privilege, truly a joy and an honor to workout beyond my limits, after having been through usual brutalizations,violence by multiple people entrapment yaddi I don’t share this for any woe only to say there is nothing that can break the human soul. It is the greatest opportunity to have endurance, compassion, strength, and enjoy what building lessons can be found in facing the uncomfortable head on. Me too until I read it over and saw ”ultra” in the title and then I figured it must be sports because I’ve only seen it in connection to sport and never drugs. In a way running on this level becomes a drug considering how much dopamine the body will release it is the epitome of reward for the body released by the brain in the same ways drugs will release that ”reward” (even if it’s toxic it engages the same mechanisms in the brain).

Just shows you what the mind can do. I was in a serious crash broke my spine pelvis etc and my mind still told me to get out the car. I did then woke up 3 days later in hospital
