And a strict hierarchy requires at the same time both - discipline (which is not the same as submission!) and adequate, stable self-confidence, similar to what is in the army. The specifics of the royal family will be supplemented by strict protocol and etiquette, but Meghan should already understand this as a former embassy employee and a student of international relations 😉

When Markle stalked Harry, she knew her 40 odd yrs wasn't going to get her any more significant acting work. She wasn't a successful actress here in the states, hollywood had never heard of her. She wanted to be a movie star but that could never happen she wasn't talented enough. She eventually was able to get a role on the cable show suits shot in Canada, playing a character similar to her own. Interestingly she couldn't play a character outside of herself. That's why at 40 she was never going to make it. Chasing down Harry was her only chance to be noticed and unfortunately for the Brits, it worked.

I do not agree with much of what Tina is saying and I have ready her book. For one, meghan was very much used to depending on a man, she used her first husband Trevor before she got suits. And then she used Cory the Canadian chef to get her known in the Toronto social scene so she has very much used men to elevate her position her entire life. Also I’m not going to feel sorry for H & M because they had to choose what palace they were going to live at for FREE! Why would we pity them, they had a life of luxury

Suits ran for 9 seasons, that is major by Hollywood standards. It had a following of 3 MILLION. Major. It experienced resurgence 4 years after it came to an end. The new audience loves the show, they are impressed without Meghan's acting, and many kick themselves for mudding it in its first outing. She may not be Meryl Streep, but many would kill for Meghan's career.

It's not that Meghan wasn't allowed to have a voice. She was not allowed to have a "political" voice I believe is the correct way to put it. She was allowed a platform during her time with the RF to be influential about humanitarian causes of the monarchy. Meghan fundamentally struggled because she was REJECTED and RESENTED by the royals. They resented her popularity; she was told to make herself small. Charles refused to fund her, she was told to go get a job, Harry's allowance never changed upon marriage or upon Archie's birth; William's allowance rose from £2 million to £3 million.

I don't really understand Meghan's obsession with "the voice". Yes, the monarchy must be politically neutral, it is in all constitutional monarchies, and Meghan, an international relations specialist, should have known that. If you want to be politically active wife - marry a politician of your spectrum, not a royal. But also within the framework of neutrality in the RF, she could be active in her own topics - such as climate change, sustainability and the improvement of women's status. And I don't believe that her opinion was not listened to in the family, rejected, as long as it was an opinion, not nagging and demands.

Edward and Sophie did have careers but had to leave. Edward did documentaries but got criticism for focusing on the brf. He was forced to leave when crew from his production company filmed at St Andrews University when William was studying there. Sophie was in pr and had her own company. She was set up by one of the papers. Cant remember how or why. Princess Anne's children and Andrews children are lucky. They get the perks of being royal without the responsibilities

The interviewer was not prepared...Her assertion that Meghan was not welcomed by the British people is simply wrong. The Royal Family is also conflated with celebrity; they are obviously famous but they are part of a system of government. If you are speaking out, you are so often criticising govt policy. However, whilst they cannot directly criticise, they can drive change through their charitable endeavours..To be Royal is to be part of a team which is also hierarchical..Meghan didn't wan't, Harry didn't wan't that..They played everyone. Tina brown mentions that royals are dependent on the monarch and not that rich. However they have alot of previliges. They have access to grace and favour apartments in the Royal palaces and Mansions on the Royal estates. Its very hard for a royal to walk away. She is correct with this. As Harry and Meghan are finding out being a royal yiu have a private secretary, pr, security all paid for by the monarch. Plus you don't really have to work that hard either.
