NEW Salsa Rangefinder first look at weight!
The first Salsa mountain bike that I have laid my hands on in a few years. I have always been a fan of salsa and really liked the Timberjack. Lets take a look at the new rangefinder and see if it's just as good.

I hope this means that more Salsa bikes are becoming available and I’m still holding out hope for the return of the El Mariachi!!

I bought a Rangefinder when they were $600 and, for that money, it's a fantastic bike. Your assessment is pretty bang on the money; I got this bike to get back into MTBing while I look into what I might get to replace it in a year or two. $600 is more palatable compared to $900 for the Talon, and now you have $300 to spend on even better forks than what's on the Talon (I got a Markhor fork). I'm quite happy with how it rides, though I plan to go tubeless when the time comes.

I just returned my Salsa Rangefinder. I traded it in and spent a couple extra bucks on a Cannondale Habit. I felt the Salsa was a little expensive for what it was. I will say that the bike had a really great ride. Also the rangefinder has been updated and has air fork and 1x12 deore

Picked my wife this bike up for 599. Insane deal. I'll buy a used fork off Facebook and swap it out. It should be a great bike. I have a roscoe 6 with quick release rear and have seriously ripped that thing without any issues at all.

New fork is exactly what this bike needs. I snagged a new Markhor for a great price, but a Rockshox Recon Silver would be a good and cheaper option.

I've been wanting to get into mtbiking and have been leaning towards getting this bike. Listening to this review now makes me think I will outgrow this bike as I gain experience. I was thinking that I could upgrade parts as ingot more into riding. I was hoping to get the best bang for my buck since bikes are so expensive and its hard to justify paying so much. Do you have any recommendations for similar priced bikes. Thanks for the video!

I picked one up last year I'm slowly upgrading it to how I want it and for what I do for the price point they are good bikes when you go higher end there isn't much on compatability and the components are better than average so there isn't much you can do

Just curious..How can you reliability rate a bike you haven't ridden? Also, you are comparing a ~$900 Rangefinder to a ~$2000 Timberjack. Not really a good comparison nor helpful for someone on a budget. It's your channel so your opinion for sure but, again, not really helpful for someone shopping for a good entry level bike.

I have Rangefinder as well. You mentioned something about through axle conversion from quick release. How do you do that again? Plus you’re right the Suntour is better than nothing but I finished my trail ride with it locked. I didn’t feel that much of a difference. But any info on if a through axle conversion plus a better fork would be helpful. Thanks!

Rockshox Recon Silver or Manitou Markhor, if you're determined to get a better set. I wouldn't spend any more than that though.

I got a rangefinder, and I find it a lot harder to master control techniques, mainly because of the weight. And because of the other aspects of it, I'm definitely going to sell it soon and invest into a lighter bike. I think the sparkly black paint is nice looking and I get a lot of compliments, but it scratches a lot easier than the majority of current paints and enamels.

Aren't we only taking about a couple of pounds here?
@lambertj.2892
@lambertj.2892 Жыл бұрын
@@Snarf_Le_Wombat It's a heavy bike for sure. I rode a medium one yesterday and was shocked at how big it is. This thing was tall and thick and kind of like driving an 18 wheeler. Just clunky. But I'm 5'9" and 175 lbs, so I might not be the right fit for this bike. But it is a nice bike, I guess. Pretty good components and beautiful sparkly black paint. But I can definitely see why Rhybreadguy would want to sell this bike eventually.
@Snarf_Le_Wombat
@Snarf_Le_Wombat Жыл бұрын
@@lambertj.2892 From my research and location it was by far the best equipped entry level mountain trail bike available in my area. Why are people trying to "master" control techniques on an entry level trail hardtail? Is 1.5 lbs heavy to you? It's the weight of a full water bottle and I keep two on my bike. That's the weight difference between a Rangefinder and Marlin 6. I think this is just another example of an uninformed customer with different expectations. It's not a cross country bicycle, it's a trail bicycle. I think people don't realize big chunky 29x2.6 and 27.5x2.8 setups are slow and clunky compared to their Mongoose in grade school.

@@Snarf_Le_Wombat You sound like you know a lot about bikes. I'm brand new to mountain bikes and know very little about them, but I have my eye on this bike from REI. I know it's entry level and that's all I want, I will never have a need for anything other than riding basic, hard dirt roads in the local hills which are wide and fairly smooth, although they do have some hills that will require some climbing and descending. I might also do a little riding on pavement, about 4 miles to get to the trails. My question is, what's the difference between the 10-speed and 12-speed? What will I be missing if I get only the 10-speed?
@Snarf_Le_Wombat
@Snarf_Le_Wombat Жыл бұрын
@@rkatrails The difference is pretty negligible but yeah a 1x 11, 12, or even a 13 speed is better than a 10, but not as common. But any 10,11,12,13 is a huge upgrade over complicated cross country multiple front gear 2x or 3x, 14-21 speed bikes. Especially if you have that commuter distance. Worth test riding a couple bikes from the REI if possible. Look for Deore or Sram gearsets. Sram or Tektro brakes, air shock, hardtail IMO.

Typical going to rate a bike without riding it. You should have some run time on it before you rate the bike. But the prices of these bikes are ridiculous, I'm going to predict something they're either going to come down on them prices they're going to go out of business. Today's economy ain't looking good for the bike corps

I got a Rangefinder with the dropper and it was a good bike. I still keep it as a beater for winter or rain use but have graduated to nicer bikes. The Rangefinder is a victim of some cost cutting, Timberjack is a lot better.
