This was so helpful for me! I was so hung up the steps and counts when dancing on2. This helps me realize that if I just follow the flow /style the lead is going with, and feel the music with that connection, it's all good! Thank you!

Thank you Joel and Maria. This is a great explanation of the subtleties of dancing on2. This video explains very well why some dancers look different even if they are dancing on the same “style”. I’ve been dancing for years… and didn’t put 2 and 2 together until I saw this ;)

This video appeared on my feed. I was curious and observed it. Power 2 and what you explain as dancing to the conga is the same. Both ways fall on 234-678. This has all been done before and has been known as Palladium 2. Also, all three styles have the 2 & 6 in the same place. If you've ever watched Eddie Torres social dance as I have years back he reverts back to Palladium 2. I could go more in depth on other counts for salsa as I've taught all of them but I'll keep it here.

Oh man what a great explanation. Your number two song is how I feel the music with the campana on 1. They always say that they don't know what I'm dancing. Use to be a drummer so I feel the 1 count very strong. Thanks for your video because now I know what's going on.

Very good! Now, The beauty is to understand that there is different variations that one can use to express and interpret salsa music when dancing dancing Salsa ... The fact is that is all in the music, the more you know about salsa music and rhythm the better dancer you’ll become … Here is a phrase that falls into the basic Salsa rhythm .. 😉 Tiene-Que-Comer | Cafe-Con-Pan l

@@marioavila1235 There are multiple ways to do anything, ( dances) ; but always there is a correct way to do it. Those that claim "interpretation" to do what ever they like to do, are those whom don't know the rules and the correct ways to do things (Dance). Every dance has a set of rule to do it correctly; but you're right, if your are dancing on the backyard, you can do what ever you want.

Thanks for the video. Very useful... I started On1 (LA style) years ago then transitioned to On2 (NY - Eddie Torres style, ie. 123-567) and now am trying to move on to the tumbao timing (8&-2-3 ... 4&-6-7). Oh is it difficult to re-train muscle memory! If I ever get back to NY, I'd love to take some private lessons with you guys.

As just a suggestion, it would've been more helpful to demonstrate with the music near the start of the video, rather than waiting to the last few minutes. I also wanted to see you dance the same song different ways, to emphasize your opinion of what fits the music better. Anyway, thanks for posting this video!

Definitely a lot of heart and information put into the video. I just might not have the necessary background information to understand one thing... the three ways you both demonstrated at the beginning, were those all "on 2" or were some not? (I'm up to 6:46 so far)
@jackfinkel94343 ай бұрын
Yes they are all on 2 because they all break on 2 (ie change direction on 2). The first one is Eddie torres On 2, or ny one 2, or simply, on 2. The second one is contratiempo or on 2 (so they can both be called on 2). The last is power on 2

The power two, how does that go in relation to the conga. If my understanding correct, the slap of the conga is always on the 2 and the 6. Also since son is the parent dance wouldnt that make power two the historically correct way of timing mambo? I don't want to start arguements. Just curious because I really find it difficult sometimes to fit moves into the music.

Hey guys all love from Miami , I got a question .. I’ve been using the dance dojo online program for about 3 years now . But I want to expose myself to different teachers and I love your KZbin videos so far . I’m thinking of purchasing your online program. Anyway my question is , I’ve been counting in my head for three years 123, 567 .. personally for yourself what do you count in your head ? 123, 567 or 8&123, 4567 or 8&123, 4&567

Why is the lead going back first? On1 it's always generally forward first in cross body so why does this need to change when on2?

Most of the salsa dance music these days , the conga sound is NOT obvious anymore. It is hard to sync with conga
@ObrienJeff93 жыл бұрын
You do not hear the conga too much these day just because song are written on clave 3-2 ( better say, song this day are written on one); Mambo is written on clave 2-3 ( better say "on 2" and the conga sound is loud). The correct way to dance : if the song is written on one, you dance on one; if the song is written on 2 you dance on two.

ET " on2" isr eally on 1. On 2dancers do not step on 1 or 5. If you want o dance to the congas is fine but what about the piano, the trunpets, the cowbell that hit the one and the five. Do we ignored that??
@alexanderjacob10082 жыл бұрын
i thought as a lead you still step back with your left like on 1
@Aperazzo_Salsa_Pics2 жыл бұрын
If "salsa on one" is defined as the style where the leader steps their "breakout" with left to the front on the one count, the styles you show in the clip are basically salsa on 6. (The breakout is danced on 6.) A more logical and perhaps natural way to dance salsa on 2 is by skipping the one count and have the leader dance the breakout (place left foot forward) on the 2 count. AFAIK this way is called Razmatas. If the shown way is indeed salsa on 2, than salsa on one (LA-style) is basically salsa on 3. This, as in the shown style(s), no step is taken on the one count. Which in LA is what takes place on the 3 count.

Great video! Thanks 🥰 quick question ❓ why do I break On3? What is it that I hear that prompts me to break, always i fall back to 3. Am I hearing the 1 wrong? Your thoughts greatly appreciated ❤️
@danceking403 жыл бұрын
You are probably hearing the 1 wrong. When conga goes cung-cung , that's either 4 -& or 8- &. When you hear the hard slap sound, that's a 2 or a 6. You don't hear the "1" but you know it immediately follows the cung-cung and comes before the slap. Hope that helps.

simplest way to explain is : tungtung musics I generally refer them as "on1 music" , because it's very recognizable and they pose at the center... whereas song that has montuno will be more in tune with on2 dance and is more melodic in general like with more spanish horns and keyboard for example. now one can dance on2 in tungtung music of course by not posing in the center but with feet apart. do you see how simple my explanation is? i dance both for years. but i do concur with you that on2 dancers are not afraid of tungtung music and can mimic on1 dancers but with feet apart at all time. on the other hand on1 dancers will find on2 music intimidating and complicated, they can't really handle it in a dance at all thus they don't play on2 music at all. they will keep playing same on1 music over and over again night after night.
