I've always wondered what the meaning of Lot's wife meant from the Hebrew Bible. Many different interpretations. I rather think of one given to me as making the most sense: Lot and his family were told to leave and not look back. Zoar, I think was their destination? In any case, The wife of Lot decided, some distance from the cities of the plain, to look back at the destruction that occurred during their trek away from Sodom. When she looked back she was turned into a pillar of salt. Disobedience brought instant punishment. Why did she look back I always wondered? I've read that she looked back not just out of curiosity, but out of what she missed about her life there. The city had tainted her to the point where she seemed to show she did not want to leave and that she wanted, for some grotesque reason, to suffer the same punishment as the city. Even the daughters of Lot extended that opportunity of rescue and redemption to their betrothed. They too, opted to stay and die with the city. I think of this story and it shocks and saddens me that only Lot and his family were at least awake to what God wanted. But the daughters of Lot and Lot himself were tainted by their surroundings within the city. A sad chapter in the Book of Genesis.

I've just addressed a comment calling history and archaeology "folklore" -- it beggars belief how much evidence one has to avoid, shutdown, and ignore to try to paint that view as rooted in fact.

That large thing on the mount is not Lot's wife. Lot and family were fleeing to another city of the plain. Sodom was separate from the mountains read what Lot says in v19 18 Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords! 19 Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die. 20 See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.” 21 And he said to him, “See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken. 22 Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called [d]Zoar. 23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar. 24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He [e]overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. 26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

It was raining brimstone in her, you don't expect over the years to remain still small

Lot's wife turned salt was when they were fleeing on the plain from Sodom to Zoar, Lot specifically says he cannot go to the mountains as they would be a difficult trip and he worries they will die, so he wants to go to a nearby city, an easy journey on the plain. The salt pillar is on the plain between Sodom and Zoar and most likely completely gone by now. it is not on the mountains, indeed cannot be there.

She turned back to face the city, not stood by it and faced out from it, and besides how long can a person sized pillar of salt really last. I realize it rarely rains and all but over several thousand years?
@LegalVideoManАй бұрын
Lot, his wife and two youngest daughters left Sodom for Zoar to the south. Lot's wife would have looked towards the north back towards Sodom so if Mt Sodom is north of Sodom, then for sure it would not be Lot's wife. It is probably just a coincidence that it might look like a person but it is rather large to formerly be a person although turning to a pillar of salt doesn't specify that it has to be equal in size but I don't think this would be Lot's wife but it is fun to see a resemblance but not at all likely.

It looks to big to be Sauls wife if you ask me. I do not think it looks like a women to me. I am only seeing it through a drone video though. I can not honestly make an opinion except how I see it in the video. That would be amazing if there was some kind of test to prove that. I figured they would have done that already if my simple mind thought of it. I love these videos. Same here, I am in the US and would hope to someday before I die to visit these sites. I am really enjoying learning about Biblical History and to follow scripture with it.

So the Bible says that two angels came from Abrahams location to investigate what they were doing. Apparently what they tried to do with the angels happened frequently. 10 righteous men would have turned the judgement... To top it off they told Lot after they were done with his guests he was gonna get double.... Instead only Lot and his family were saved everyone else perished.

Have you managed to locate Lots wife?

What sins did they participate in? They failed to honor and follow G-d's Laws and Commandments. Like the Christians of today, the inhabitants of Sodom & Gomorrah spoke AGAINST G-d and His Laws and Commandments and said that they did not have to follow them because they were "fulfilled" somehow.

Sodom, was one of 5 cities of the plain, so why is this Sodom a mountain? Makes no sense to be Mount Sodom as it does not exist. The mountain was not Sodom, but there were mountains nearby Genesis 13:12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.
