Nice tour. It is important to remember the river lives on long after the surface water is gone. Some interesting attractions you missed along the way include the massive flood water drain at Central Ave. which, when seen from the bike path on the North side of the river, shows three massive underground drains with the downtown skyscrapers in the background. This is hard to miss at certain times of year because there is literally a black cloud of mosquitos hovering over the bike path, nice. Moving West toward 7th Ave, you can find some ground Owl habitats just North of the trail, and West of 7th Ave. Backtrack 100 yards to venture into the macabre. Just North of the path on 7th Ave is a large brick building which was once a slaughterhouse. Built in 1949, no longer in operation, and closed to the public, a drone flight can capture the two "ramps of death" that lead into the west side of the building. This building was a masterpiece of engineering in its day. The ramps lead to the kill floor, with the Pigs on the North and Cows on the South. The kill floor is a series of tapered, tiled sections with drains in the center of each section, and massive chain tracks in the ceiling to move the meat through the processing floor. Down in the basement, you will see a well between the kill ramps and close observers will notice that the 4-inch cast iron pipes on the ceiling coming from the kill floor above, have the words BLOOD or WATER *cast* into the pipes. I'm guessing that if you were to order 100 yards of "cast iron BLOOD pipe" in 2023, the police would be knocking on your door. You will have to take my word for it because trespassers will be prosecuted and there are small businesses working there now. Back to more pleasant sights. Again on the North side of the river, just past the ground Owl's between 7th Ave and 19th Ave, is an *expensive bridge* built just for the bike path. Why you ask? The drone needs to fly to see it, but this dry river under the bridge seems to come from nowhere. Just a couple of hundred yards North of the bridge near the palm trees is the home of yet another Owl and the drainage tubes which drain the freeway underpasses. It's dry unless it is raining when this becomes a violent raging river, hence the expensive bridge. I mentioned another Owl. This one is not the cute cuddly ground variety, but the massive meat eating 7 foot wing span type that scares the living s#>t out of you when it thinks your golf cart is food. The drone will also notice a couple of massive holes in the ground all the way down to the water table, which support the rock crushing businesses on either side of the river. Again, no trespassing, but the drone should be fine assuming this is far enough away from PHX and you keep the altitude low.

Yep that has been a yearly thing here in az for decades even well before the damn was built. I got photos from the 90’s that look nothing like that. And it actually comes from the melting snow in Utah the monsoon season helps but is not the main source of water. There was less snow fall last year in Utah. If Utah gets a bunch of snow we get a bunch of water.

Cool! I used to live at Hayden and Thomas and I rode my mountain bike down to Tempe Town Lake a couple of times a week. I still come there 6-7 times a year. It's nice to see this and it's crazy how it went from such a wet winter to a bone dry summer, monsoon MIA this summer.

How do you confirm if it is legal to fly these places? Have you ever been in trouble for that? What drone are you using?

@@DMDesignStudios great question! I confirmed it was legal to fly in ALL of these locations, I did have to request permission and I was only able to fly up to 100 ft, but I was able to. I fly the DJI Mavic Air 2 and I have never been in trouble because I always follow the proper protocol

the parts of the salt river that I showcased are pretty normal but the water levels can fluctuate depending on the season, but if you go further up the river it starts to pick up and becomes thicker

1) The Salt River is dry most of the time. 2) It isn't navigable by ships ever, never was (do you know how to define "ship"?) 3) You can't sink a ship or a boat in a riverbed unless you dig a hole and put it in.

you do realize this is the water that over flows from the Colorado river right? Last year was a record year and the lakes and rivers are all at capacity not saying global change and warming isn’t real because it is but this is usually always dry during the dry months

Az,California, Nevada population has increased. A year ago, we were in a drought heading critical. A few years from now, we will be wishing all the millions of gallons of water didn't go to waste down the Salt River. Az state has not taken future water seriously.

Most of that water got slowed down at painted rock dam near Gila Bend. As far as the water going to waste, it recharged aquifers along the way at a level we have not seen in a lot of years. You might want to do a little research about SRP and CAP before spouting your uninformed bullsh*t.
