No chlorine production, pool going green!
Join me in this video as we replace the chlorinator cell on this salt water pool,
Before you write off any of your pool equipment, try these tests to refine your search for the problem. we found ours was a faulty cell which produces chlorine - or is supposed to anyway. But they wear out over time, they corrode and stop working.
It's an easy fix with the right replacement part. this replacement cell cost me $339.00 with a 6 yr warranty and free shipping.

Of course there is heaps of retailers out there that would happily find you the right replacement parts.

Great video. Really enjoyed your grout sealing video. Just a tip from a pool guy. Make sure the notched tab is down when you put an evolution cell in place as it indicates how the flow sensor(white cable) is orientated. As you have a variable speed pump you may find flow errors at times depending on the speed if the flow sensor sits towards the top of the cell. May never be a problem but just a handy tip if anyone gets this error after replacing or cleaning a cell.

Great video We had 67% chlorine production but plenty in the pool. Turned out to be the probe had a dirty connection and wasn't measuring correctly. Cleaned it and now 100%

It is nice you can look to see your chlorine generator working. Most of us however have solid generators so we can't physically see the action of the chlorine production. So far testing is limited to trying to grab water from closest to the return jet and checking it vs the rest of the pool water to see if it has more chlorine. My generator has always seemed to produce the tinyest amount of chlorine even at the highest levels.

Hey Rick, great comment mate - yeah you are right the digital gauge is the easiest method for keeping track of chlorine production, but we are all the same - nothing beats a water test to monitor all chem levels. Cheers, Kent

Very helpful Thanks Kent. I am keen to clean my chlorinator cell as my pool is green. The instructions say to 'close all applicable valves'. Is this referring to turning the filter to 'closed' or are there other valves that need to be closed eg suction/return/skimmer etc? I have no idea and don't want to muck it up. My system has so much plumbing it's hard to tell what is what.

Hey Giselle, sorry for the slow response- I’ve been slack😉 Can I suggest you take a pic of all the valves (the turn handles) before you start, then switch power supply off at the plugs, close everything that can be closed (valves), then remove the cell for cleaning. Use you photos to check everything is back how it should be before turning on again👍 I hope that helps, Kent

Does this type of chlorine generator bad for a stainless steel or aluminum heater in a hottub?

Hey bro amazing video, I'm also in AU and my setup looks similar to yours with that cell, I thought i had a chlorine "pull" but how can I tell if its a salt pool? You have me scratching my head.
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey CafeRacer, my wife asked the same thing.. good question👌you either have a saltwater pull or mineral/magnesium pool (less common). The cell uses the dissolved salt (or minerals) in the water to produce a chlorine gas which sanitises the water👍 a good way to check if unsure is get a sample of water tested at a pool shop. Cheers, Kent

Hey Alvin, I don’t want to give you any advice without knowing your pool.. the best way to get it back on track is to have the water tested at a pool shop. Best of luck. Kent

I think you opened the valves bud, pool valves are opposite to standard valves. And you can get those tabs welded back on , that cell will still be fine
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 ай бұрын
Hey mate, yeah.. you know what, one is opposite to the other (I had a closer look as I was going to replace it) don’t have to now😂. And yeah you are right about the welding, just not many people have access to that. Cheers, Kent

So you needed to tack weld with scrap titanium wire the cell and get it going again and you needed to rebuild the box for the controller and use sealed connecter - BTW the wires out of the box are not 240v only in and not mains connected when you unplug it - a good local electronics repair shop, ham radio guy, would recondition the whole unit for you AND and add water proof connecters in a useful box - here we go again just rip it all out and chuck it away due to abject ignorance, bad installation and poor planning, - who cares???? it's only a few hundred dollars -
