Brit here. The way this movie depicts the decadence of our aristocracy is actually pretty spot on. While obviously exaggerated for comic effect, the way they seem to have everything but not value any of it, and haven't the foggiest notion of how the rest of us live, is accurate. The way everyone is dripping in jewelry, piercings and tattoos is also accurate. Only the other day I watched a KZbin short of an American saying "ladies" don't walk around with such adornments, and had to point out that actual Ladies here in the UK very often do so. Even Winston Churchill and his wife were inked (albeit discreetly in their case). Heck, about every third person here has at least one tattoo, it's socially acceptable for all walks of life and most professions, provided they're not offensive or overtly political designs.

15:37 Miles away? I thought the Brits used KM, the metric system. Not miles, the Standard system. Strange.
@The45thClown
@The45thClown 5 ай бұрын
We use a mixed system. There are clearly defined rules for when we use imperial or metric, which are quite logical … lol just kidding it’s all over the place. Lots know both and just flick between depending. So larger measurements like distance (miles), weights (tones), fuel economy (miles per gallon), we generally use imperial but we buy fuel priced in litres. Cars speedometer show both miles and km. Scientific measurements are in metric. Precious metals are imperial (troy ounce). Body measurements like weight and height we increasingly use metric but many use imperial. We measure food in metric when it’s loose or packaged. Bottles are always metric for things like pop (soda) or wine… apart from milk which is pints for obvious reasons (that reason being because it is!). Drinks in the pub are imperial.

"Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy, Whose trust, ever childlike, no cares can destroy, Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray, Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day." Amazing that they let this popular melodic Christian hymn play out in its entirety while we watched in mounting horror as Oliver began to do what we silently pleaded him not to do.

can we take a minute to mind the fact that Ollie pushed Venetia over the edge and virtually destroyed her entire family when her only crime was to be a little naive? everyone else? rightfully offed. her? she's pretty much innocent to the whole thing. it all takes a darker turn when you see it all from her perspective.

"Ollie belongs in this world." Oh, I'm sure he'd agree with you. 😉 Or a psychiatric prison. At least you had a couple of laughs from this "comedy."😂😂😂 I've seen many comments comparing this film to "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and I see that, but I also see it as a much darker version of "Something For Everyone" (1970), hey, yeah, I'm old, a dark comedy , starring young Michael York and the wonderful Angela Lansbury as the countess whose castle, wealth & position Michael covets. It's fun to watch him worm his way through her staff. then her, then her son, daughter and then.... Give it a watch sometime if you can find it available.

I really enjoyed your reaction. When u said it was listed under Comedy, I was like "What part of this movie is funny?! I did not find it the least bit funny." It might be slightly satirical in the way Felix's wealthy family was portrayed, but I saw it as a psychological drama. Oliver was envious of Felix. He wanted to be him, maybe there was also a sexual attraction. I saw Oliver as dangerous while they were still @ school. I began to think Oliver is gonna kill him (Felix), especially after Felix met up w/Farleigh & friends @ the pub without Oliver. It was due to Oliver's overly attentive & obsessive behavior. It began to remind me a bit of the movie THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY. Don't know if u have seen it so won't mention anything else, other than Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchette & Philip Seymour Hoffman are in it. The scenes that u were told were "shocking". I didn't see them that way either. It was more gross & disturbing. The bathtub scene bothered me the most. It was just gross. Oliver, getting his red wings w/Venetia, didn't bother me @ all because been there done that, once.😄 I found the screwing of the grave disturbing. When I saw that scene, I was like "He's not gonna do what I think he's gonna do?" When he just laid on top, I took a breath & said "O, good." , but then he sat up & reached for his pants. I said "O, God, he is gonna do it. That is so disrespectful!" One thing though, I don't remember any mention of Farleigh's mom dying. What I got from the conversation between Farleigh & Felix was that Felix's dad was gonna stop sending her money because he was tired of supporting her. It was because her writing wasn't really paying the bills. When Felix's mom said something about Pamela dying, she was referring to Carey Mulligan's character that had left Saltburn shortly after Oliver had arrived. That was why there was a bit of surprise in Oliver's voice when he said "Pamela's dead?!". I liked your "I'm gonna need more wine..."😊 I would have said the same thing if I had been drinking any.😄 I think I would watch this again, but not right away. This was a great movie even w/the gross & disturbing scenes, & I did recommend it to a friend.😊 Anyway, I really enjoyed your reaction & looking forward to whatever movie u have next.😊👍

@@funnylilgalreacts The Internet has desensitized most of us. I give the movie 3 stars. The twist was well crafted. Everyone thought Saltburn was full of cannibals or satanists or something. 🙃

So, Angela. What exactly did we learn from declaring this movie a “comedy?”

This felt a lot like 'The Rules of Attraction.' Directed by one of the authors of Pulp Fiction, based on a book by the author of American Psycho, featuring Patrick Bateman's younger brother in college (James Van Der Beek of Dawson's Creek). Lots of sex and nudity, but it is extremely un-sexy on purpose. The cast is overflowing with former family-friendly child actors looking to push envelopes and show how they're ready for 'adult' roles. No over the top running around with chainsaws wondering what is real or not like its sibling-story, but feels just as disturbing while being more grounded in reality. Not many people talk about this one because of the super generic title, as well as one of the single most misleading trailers ever made. They tried to sell this as a generic teen sex comedy when it's more of a fucked-up dismantling of that genre instead, seen through the same lens that had done similarly with the corporate culture environment of their previous story America Psycho. It's mostly forgotten, sadly, and no one would vote for this, but I feel it is important that people should know it exists.
