@eric2068: A retained station is one where the firefighters provide ad-hoc manpower, having other employment when not answering fire calls. Employers will release employees to attend a "shout" at a moments' notice. Retained stations tend to exist in small villages or medium sized towns where full time cover is not feasible/needed.

I believe this is the only retained station in the Britain to run an aerial even if it is a CRAP aerial. I believe there is a retained station in Northern Ireland that runs a dedicated aerial, but the name escapes me.

Johnstone, Falkirk and Oban all have aerials which are regularly crewed by retained staff

@@gav7256 .... yes I know that. There are many more aerials across the UK that are crewed by on-call firefighters, but I meant by a solely retained on-call fire station.

Is this a busy Retained Station? Strange for an RDS Station to have a CARP?

Fun Story: This appliance was meant to go on the run at Bromsgrove Fire Station in Worcestershire as a replacement for its aging Volvo Hydraulic Platform & Dennis Sabre pump. In the end they sold it to the CFB because of multiple technical issues and nobody could fathum the controls & Bromsgrove ending up selling their HP to Emergency One, resulting to only 1 aerial appliance manning the whole of Worcestershire. The Dennis was relocated to new Pebworth Fire Station and replaced with a brand new Scania P280 Heavy Rescue Pump

The most unstable vehicle I’ve driven and my report was supplied to the tech manager at the time at the time they listened but after I left some bright spark decided to buy them resulting in a firefighter putting it on its side injuring 2 firefighters so much for experience but what did I know glad to be shot of them 🤔Saltburn lads where a great bunch of folks worked with them closely when I was in tech hope they get turned out regularly to earn some good money they deserve it I still miss the wheeled escape even if they did drive it through the doors once 😂👍🇬🇧

What is a CARP, precisely? Because this reminds me of what we call a Quint here in the states, short for Quintuple Combination Engine.
@ZXCVuyt11 ай бұрын
Basically the same as what you say on the Quint. CARP Combined Aerial Rescue Platform. Combining a pumping appliances with an aerial rescue platform. Carries no additional ladders ie 10.5m or 13.5m still does the same job as a normal pumping appliance i.e house fires , rtcs etc. Although this can be crewed with either a 4 person crew or crewing is short runs as an aerial.

Getting sent all over the county as a aerial capability due to CFB not sending Boro ALP for reasons unknown
@ZXCVuyt2 жыл бұрын
Middlesbrough HP is crewed when there is sufficient crewing available. If they are at a job an the HP is needed then the CARP is requested. If for any reason the CARP goes into workshops then the HP would be fully crewed or they would request over the border aerial.

While it always makes for a good video there was no need for any sirens or good old two tones leaving the ranch, not a vehicle in sight when leaving the station or junction. But as a fellow blue lighter I understand the protocols and reasoning why, I'm just a lot more reserved now when not required

Of course there is a need, the boom sticks out so that is a need. The station apron is small so there is another need.. The junction is another need.
