I doubt it. It’s still very lacking progression-wise. There is no gameplay arc. The beginning is sort of there, building reputation and such. But it could also be improved, really making the player feel like he’s a part of the universe. But then, what’s mid-game? Random missions, making money, org-gameplay, exploration, … but for what? What’s the endgame? Both the mid and end are just not there. And it’ll take years to fully craft them.

I've been saying one of these for a long time. Each planet, along with its moons, should be a server. So in essence, Stanton would be 4 servers, possibly 5, to start. Pyro would be about 6 or 7. This would seriously increase the server FPS everywhere, since each server would be liable for a much smaller area. I am super glad to hear that is on the table!!!

I'm an original backer who has, for now at least, entirely given up on the game. If they want to bring back in people like me, and there's a _lot_ of disenchanted backers like me, as well as a wider audience SC is going to need far more content than it has now. They have spent over a decade and we have one complete and one incomplete system to show for it, which is neither good enough nor enough of a draw to bring people in: _"Play this Space Sim, it has one system for you to explore, and if you're lucky, in ten years we'll sell you an expansion pack with another."_ All the hype this game once had has evaporated. There needs to be a lot more than this before you drag people back in.

CIG and most of all Christ Roberts himself, really found themselfs a golden goose they can eviscerate like crazy. Even the letter is evolving. Lots of base level stuff worth adding before I'd want to call it Beta/ 1.0. CDF mission chain seems to be right up your alley. Was refreshing to see Chris open himself up about Todd Papy. I just hope Todd had some choice in the matter. Beyond the move or else ultimatum it seems many may have gotten. Also wondering about this whole toxic comment from a former employee being almost rug swept. Seems agile development isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

I'm 47 years old. I backed Star Citizen when I was 35. My son was only 3. I've given him my username, login, email access and RFA because the game the Prophet has foretold lies beyond the sunset of my prime gaming years. Sure I will be able to afford it, but I wont be able to play it. I haven't lost faith in the game coming out, I just don't believe it will be in a time when I will be able to play it. So I've given everything to my son hoping that when he's in his 20s this game will be awesome.

I've been a backer since late 2019, and for the first time since 2022 I am beginning to be optimistic, albeit cautiously so. I agree with you that we must just CIG by actions and not words, but I think the past 6 months of development has been really encouraging. Core technologies are beginning to be implemented, they are more agressive with testing, QoL-improvements are beginning to come in, and they're focusing on gameplay. The rest of this year will be exciting for sure.

Star Citizen: 12 years in development AAAAAAA game with 500m+ development budget that changes the game director every 4 years If Rich manages to steer this ship to a commercial release as they say he will - that would only happen by cuts, cuts and more cuts. I suspect that also what happened on sq42. And we already see that in SC with things like salvage where even before they cut the claw they've already cut pretty much everything we knew about it. Star Citizen will release, maybe even in 2 years - but it won't be anything anyone ever expected

This year we will likley get 4.0. And honestly hearing that it is technically working if albeit with some glaring bugs like the mission system, it's still sounding good. @RangerxTurbo yes I do think we will have 4.0 this year. Benoit said (and Benoit unlike CR is generally pretty reliable) they were looking forward to testing various meshing configurations this year. And evo is already testing servermeshing that is in a working state. It's not a stretch, my guy or copium. Servermeshing is litterally in evo right now. So unless CIG changes their conditions for 4.0 (which I said before was servermeshing and pyro by extension) then yes its definitly possible. Furthermore most of the devs form SQ42 are now migrating to work on star citizen. Their development speed is going to ramp up

One major simple fact. As long as wipes will happen, this "game" will NEVER be an every day game. The whole meat in a game is to progress your character, wealth, etc. There's just ZERO reason to play constantly for the last 12 years. Log in, play some missions, do some pvp, maybe get your bankroll up after a wipe...and then the fun is gone and you wait until the next wipe to see any new features..rinse and repeat. You just have to come to the realization that we are unpaid beta testers. In fact many of us have invested 5-10grand to be a tester. And that's ok. If this "game" becomes all we dreamed it would be....it's money sell spent. Lets hope it happens. I'm still a believer. I just hope I'm not dead before it happens.

NO, we cannot expect the 3.23 treatment for every patch going forward simply because those features have been developed for A LOT LONGER in the background. What I think this 1.0-Talk and big patches means is, that they now, that core-tech is finished and SQ42 is starting it's finishing steps, will have a way clearer roadmap for SC and therefore work on features that really matter AND flesh them out (at least most of them) completely. That is at least how I see it. I say most of them as I do think there are still core-systems that might not be core-tech but are still VERY IMPORTANT missing that might hold some features back (Malestrom, Resource-Network and especially the big final boss Quantum-Simulation). What it might however mean, that they are building this roadmap internally is that they might have a better understanding of which features are still blocked and shouldn't start development and then prioritise the once that can be fleshed out right now. In the end, I found this interesting not because the promise MORE but simply because it really sounds like they are planning A LOT which is I think for such a big project always great. And I do think over the last few years (when most of the team was on SQ42) in terms of SC we did see a big problem with long-term planning That are my thoughts on what this means for SC

My biggest fear is a rug pull from the "high coporates" once SQ42 will be released. E.g : They let go barely everyone that worked on SQ42 hence nobody get transfered to SC development, they sell the tech they created and let SC state as it is after the milkers got milked. I will wait to see SQ42 release and then see how SC development goes before putting any more money in it.

Agree. Proof is in the pudding. They've talked, showcased, advertised, boasted, predicted, demonstrated, illustrated and discussed their way into oblivion for over a decade now. The "game" is still a mess. Elevators not working, player interaction bugged, ships not refueling, missions not completing, ships not functioning properly, character glitches, banner glitches, buying/selling glitches etc. The fact that nothing has changed isn't what irritates me. It's the fact that so many people still buy into their hype fests. I hope the changes come. But until they do, I place no weight on anything they say they will do.

So i just hope they finish i dont really care when but id love to see the way the game is meant to be played, lets not forget the game is only 30 dollars... unlike some that are 70 or some that will sell you a single horse skin for 100 thats meant for a 30 dollar game.

I'm going to play on words a bit ,when it comes to those kind of letters I feel it's important. Rich Tyrer doesn't "specifically" mention that other patch will be as big as 3.23. He says the ***intent*** is to deliver "large" patch. Now, what exactly defines a "large" patch is up in the air. Also, take note that where 1.0 was mentioned in the letter and recently on Spectrum by Chad, in both cases they are careful not to drop any release dates. So, the "When" is also up in the air and so will be labeled as "Soon™".

They are still just testing STATIC server meshing, the thing that should be easy, and have not yet touched on evocati dynamic server meshing, the thing that is hard to do.

If you look on wiki for star citizen it has a release date for 2025, not sq42 .

Remembering when I could only walk around in my hanger and comparing todays play it's hard for me to complain. The road in between a little bumpy but I still play this game every day because there's little competition. I look forward to but don't expect things. I just take it all day by day. Sometimes you cant even log in and the next time we are telling each other that was our best day ever. Until someone has a better replacement I will continue to play this one... I was wishing the upgrade was mech suit or atmospheric jet pack but that's just me wishing!

Ive been aware and checking in on this games development since 2014 and I'm starting to get really excited about its progression. This is a game that I've dreamed about since playing the original Wing Commander when I was a kid. I think it's time for me to build a new PC and get in because from what I can tell things are picking up momentum or at least they seem to be. Nice work on the video. Are there any good discord groups you would recommend that I can join to help catch me up on playing the game?
