I'm glad I preordered this because the gameplay looks perfect for my tastes. But I totally agree with Zee about the look. The background doesn't recede enough and it makes the whole board look graphic soup

Bought Santa Maria three or four years ago on a Gamenerdz sale based off of Zee's review. Absolutely one of my favorite games. I really love Aporta games because of it as well. I am very excited for this and was happy to see it holds up to it's predecessor.

This is a very good game but after playing it a bunch I like Santa Maria better. It's more interactive, more tight, looks somewhat better and plays significantly quicker at higher player counts. I THINK I will keep Saltfjord for now but my Santa Maria copy with the expansion will never leave my collection.

I prefer less interaction and less tightness, so it sounds like Saltfjord is for me between the two

Interaction all the way for me. Santa Maria it is!

Funny, in that I really wanted to like Santa Maria when I played it years ago, but the artwork was what really turned me off, especially the smiling natives. That's why in the end I only played it once. Thus I was very excited for Saltfjord's retheming. I really cannot compare them as it has been far too many years, but I quite like Saltfjord, although I'm not sure how often it will get to the table. In the end it still feels like an older game, and if I'm going for an Aporta title it's more likely going to be Revive (my favourite game of all time).

I guess the only negs were the art design, not the game itself.

I think it might be that zees energy level didn't quite seem to match today

I've only played this solo (6 times, so far) and have very much enjoyed myself. Can see it being a pretty good 2 player game. My question is - 3-4 players, does it drag on and become tedious? I can see the potential for that as combos can lead to some longer turns. Anyone had any experience with playing 3-4 players? Thanks

Yes I played it at 4 players and it's definitely longer than Santa Maria. I think it took us 2.5 hours but it can get less with more plays. Santa Maria was a solid 90 minutes max play at 4 players.

It's not much of a board game but would love to see these guys play the viking raiders card game

It’s a good game but really nothing I am craving to get back. You see it all offers pretty much in your first play, so max three sessions and that is it in terms of excitement.

14:15 "... the area of the world this is based of of, clearly.." Chris Yi's comment is the closest you three came to mention where this game is taking place. Zee must have decided that mentioning the name on his player board and using five seconds to tell where the game is set, was not relevant or not worth the time. Well, it is always relevant. You have an international audience, Dice Tower. Come on, show some interest. It is clearly stated on the back of the box that this game take place in northern Norway. The description on BGG says the same. Saltfjord is a real fjord, called Saltfjorden in northern Norway. The name on Zee's player board was Rognan. That is a real place. It is situated in Saltdal municipality in Nordland fylke in Norway. It is a village with 2500+ inhabitants. The other boards also have names of real places; Bodø, Fauske og Løding. People live there. Don't ignore other people. The personal player boards are double sided, where one side is special (name) and the other side is the same for everyone (without name).
