One of my favorite pastimes for summer is flyfishing for snook off the beach! Especially when the wind and waves are favorable. I use a 2 inch all white fly on a floating line and 25# tippet. I just vary the sink rate of the eyes as to the area I am fishing.

Good video/discussion. However,bait size (4-inch or smaller like mentioned) is solely a numbers thing IMO on the Gulf side... I've seen some giant beach snook inhale ladyfish over 14 inches along the beaches. The same goes with the needle-fish/ballyhoo,mullet,lizardfish & catfish... Snook will eat em all.

Me and my kiddos have been trying to find them on honeymoon. Haven't went farther south due to the red tide. Still haven't hooked up.

They should be all along Honeymoon & Caladesi. What time of day have you been fishing? 6AM to 8/9AM is really the best time of day as long as the tides are right (moving). If you have multiple people with you try spreading out (100 yards apart) and being very quiet and slowly cover water. Do not even walk close enough to get your feet wet. Soft casts from several feet back or so from the waterline (just so you can see 4 or 5 feet out) . They're typically very shallow and will spook easy from people walking by or even birds along the shoreline. They'll dart in and out and zig-zag along the beach while feeding. Throw very light jigheads like 1/8th oz (white is a good color) if you are throwing plastics like gulp jerkshads or the z-man jerkshadz in either slamshady color or pearl. Also try to keep your line tight but vertical when working the bait(rod tip very high). You want your line almost straight up and down (nearly vertical) near the bait when fishing that shallow and clear. When it lays diagonal in the water the snook can sense it much better and will not eat most of the time. Also a lot of folks will use 30lb leader. However,if you are hellbent of hooking up , try going to 17lb or 20lb (berkley vanish affordable line). If you do go that light after every fish you'll want to re-tie. Ligher leader you'll get more bites but the chance of a fish rubbing through is much greater. Good luck!

I'm a northern bass and musky fisherman. Heading down to the port charolette area and venice FL area to fish with dad. Hes in North Port, so were trying to figure out some spots to hit. What reel size are you guys using? Is a Daiwa BG 3500 (Readily available... Other sizes backordered right now) good? Would 20lb braid hurt ? It'd take a lot of 10lb to fill that spool. Since I dont live down there, Id like to start with a 1 rod 1 reel setup to handle beach and jetty and maybe bridge fishing. Targeting snook and maybe heavy duty enough to handle whatever else might bite. Looking for rod recommendations as well. Thanks much!

What is the length of the leader overall ? 30# and 20# - 10lb Braid? Thanks - In Marco - I have caught snook on the beach with a shrimp on the tail end. Awesome video and discussion

6 foot to 3 foot. If you can getaway(have a long enough rod) with throwing a 6 foot leader then do it. You'll re-tie often if you are hooking up with fish and eventually your leader will keep getting shorter. I usually start the day with 5 to 6 foot long leaders depending on the rod I'm using. But I never use anything less than 3 foot when tied to braid.

Interesting...almost every article I've read has said that outgoing tide is better for both bridge and beach fishing for snook. What I've read is that on outgoing tide lots of bait gets pulled from the backwaters and inlets. I've literally ignored incoming tides for the past month 🤦.

I mean I’ve lived in Florida and fished Florida my whole life, outgoing tide is 100% better then incoming but a Incoming tide is still good. Ask any real captain

What should I do if it’s a snook and it is just not stopping and every time I cast a live bait on it, they will just zig zag around it even if I lead by 15 feet

Try going down to 20 lb test on your leader,,, if they are still not taking it and it's live bait, it just means they are not eating. Not a whole lot you can do about that,, but that's the nature of a snook. If they are not eating you can bounce a shrimp off their nose and they will just look at it.

Hey go figure every bait they recommend is something they sell or are sponsored by. If you want to catch snook on the beach use a NLBN swimbait, Rapala XRap 10 caught my 43” snook off the beach with it and Spooltek lures and spooks and you are set
