Matt, you gotta realise they are not there to fish, they are there to harvest fish, to participate in the harvest with family, a great day out with family and something to show for it, a celebration if you want. Its not fishing, its something else and its all good too its social, family, its happy memories for the kids with all the family. Imagine after they leave the beach and the whole family sits down at the end of the day and cook and eat the catch together, what a wonderful afternoon's memory for those kids.Its family stuff like that, that maybe we should do more of, just my tuppence worth. But hey, its definitely not fishing as we know it, its something else completely and there should be room for that also cos it comes from a good place and leads to good things, hopefully 🤞. Great video as always, thanks Matt 👍

Thanks for the heart Matt, I was worried you wouldn't get what I was trying to say ☺️ Do you see how good you are ? And how you provoke reactions that are nothing to do with fishing but still, at the same time, all about the spirit of why we fish. And with that last aside, I shall retire to bed, happy n pissed 😆👍

Factory anglers appear once a year in NE England when the Mackerel move inshore. Keep up the good work, as my mate often says, "I fish for the table, not the freezer"
@chrism9901 Жыл бұрын
I use shooting head lines, intermediate or a slow sinker. Cast out and retrieve. Next cast count to 10 and retrieve, then count 20, 30 etc. Then repeat the sequence. Tuck the rod under your arm and do a jerky roly-poly retrieve, far more effective than strip and pause.

I always cut my mackerel lure’s down to three or four and use a bass rod or spinning rod with a cheap metal lure for a weight usually around 30 to 40 grams, enjoyed the video, tight lines

Awesome again Matt, I used freshwater rod & reel , & the good old metal mackerel spinner, had some great fun fighting mackerel. Can't believe so many people fished, never like that in my teens. Not much English spoken. Happy catching from Australia Nick

Nice one Matt. There are known areas for that 'Mackerel Madness', to steer well clear of. I tend to fish those areas when the elements no longer suits the fair weather bashers, then bag up all of their rubbish and litter for them. Different cultures have different values. I try to differentiate the sport of angling with acquiring food for the kitchen.

Great video! Have had plenty of mackerel and pollock from the shore on the fly. Best way to fish for mackerel when they are close in as with a floating line you can cast into very very shallow water when they are chasing baitfish. Really exciting. Thanks for all the videos!

Another great video Matt.having fished since mid seventy’s here in Cornwall mainly for bass ray and mackerel over the years I’ve found my favourite way of catching mackerel is using a light 11 foot bass rod with bead 3 oz lead bead short piece of tubeing bead then swivel leader is around 5feet with a one o hook .the bait I use is either a strip of mackerel belly the bit you usually throw away when filleting .a good tip is to save all the white belly and cut in strips and freeze .the feeling of one fish on one hook magic .👍😀 by the way tube stops line twist

Totally agree with ibana8449, down here in 'The Bay' it seems everyone uses feathers. There were even dare i say....people of not this country made... down Berry Head last year camping, feathering mackerel with some 'shmuck' popping to where ever with buckets full. Oh LMAO just got to the bit where you get to the factory....sorry for passing them up to you :) My mate and i sit between them with floats trying to cause chaos ;)

I fish off the rocks using a 30grm Dr Fish metal sardine. Great sport catching Mackerel one at a time. They do give a great fight and they do come off so I only get a few at a time.

Those of us who truly appreciate angling in its truest form are quite rightly disgusted. Single lure or even a four hook set of feathers are ample. This lot remind me of the covid mob who had to grab all the pasta & toilet rolls. Anyway rant over, thanks for introducing me to the Bombarda float, your videos are really helpful as is your manner presenting them. Cheers Matt👏👏👏

Nice vid Matt. Great idea. Yep, saw it this weekend just gone. Casting too close to other fishermen/women and with swimmers & paddle boarders in front of them. All fish kept - regardless of size and left in a bucket or cool box without being humanly dispatched 🤨 😟 Not nice fishing. Thanks Matt - a much nicer way and challenging way to catch only what you need - if it’s big enough - in a controlled way. Which was best for you fly or float ? Saw loads of baitfish this weekend, even caught a few the landing net. I think it could be the last few warm days before they disappear 😮. Tight lines. Keep ‘em coming.

@@SaltwaterAngler well there were plenty of mackerel caught Sunday afternoon and we had 7 good sized Bass, biggest was 52cm the rest were over 42cm or in the line, except one schooly. We took only the one single fish for the plate. 👍🏻 So they are still following the food chain and coming in shore. 👍🏻 The gulls were feeding and several cormorants! When gutted the bass was stuffed with baitfish as you’d expect. I’m no expert but I think the sea is still pretty warm compared to the usual temp this time of year. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I prefer going after Mackerel on light gear. great fun. With the bombarda and fly set up, a friend suggested using glass beads with a hole in the middle. Adds a little weight to the fly, seems to work. All the best.

Great video, Matt. Catching mackerel is always great until your Esprit topwater keeps getting taken and your targeting Bass. Thanks again for the videos, keep it up.
@stephenjackson1828 Жыл бұрын
On a fly set up I would go for a weight forward floating line one weight up from the rods rating this will help load the rod and is a quick to improve your casting. I’d go for a slightly longer sinking leader with a weighted fly on the end then you can use the countdown method to search the water column. 👍

100% agree that method of fishing and shoulder to shoulder is not for me. I prefer a secluded spot 30g spin rod two hokai and a 28g seeker on the end in case a bass comes.

Great thought provoking video. Its a shame that mackeral are not treated with respect. The first time I caught them was when after bass. Used a tiny Fiish sandeel. Had fantastic sport (boy do they pull) and realeased all the fish. My son had more fish than me by using a very light dexter wedge. All fish caught were released. How long can we keep catching mackeral at the rate you showed on your video?

Its good to see a how not to video every now and then :) .Win some, loose some I guess, fishless or not, still good value this vid. Have been to Aberdeen area recently and most Mackerel spots were even worse than showcased in this vid, even more people, and unfortunately they left loads of crap rubbish behind all the time... Hated to see to be honest, and some catch full of those bigger softer garden buckets, almost daily... Probably running a shop somewhere.. Anyway.. Cheers for vid.

Ive been finishing now for well over 75 years and have never seen a scene like that crowded beach, where on earth was it? One question why did you use that fluorocarbon trace? I always tie my hooks directly to the main line, be it mono or braid, each knot is a weak link. I do this for fresh and saltwater fishing and have never found that it puts the fish off. Tight lines.
