We finally made our first offshore deep sea fishing trip in 2 months and it felt GREAT. The water was a little green and we think that was why the 'catching' was a bit off but both of us brought home fish in the cooler.

It's weird hearing you talk about Bliners being too short. It used to be if we caught a bliner under 10 inches it was butterflied and went back down on a long single leader for big grouper.
@SaltyKayak2 жыл бұрын
Hello G, a few years ago, I contacted the SAFMC as to weather I could use Bliners as bait because I had heard other long time seasoned fishermen referring to them as 'red-eyes' and were using them as bait. My response back was that I could not legally use any of the Snapper species as bait including Vermilion Snapper. But, that is not the reason why I don't use them for bait. Since they get larger than ruby-lips, I use rubies for dropping down for potential grouper IF I can get through the hordes of Red Snapper here. I like the taste of Bliners almost as much as Triggers.

According to Mike D You guys have quit KZbin is that correct
@SaltyKayak3 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny, That is correct ... sort of. This last summer I suffered a minor heat stroke and needed an operation. But, more importantly, at 72, God told me I needed to move on to something less strenuous. I am beginning a new hobby.. reloading my own ammo.. it's a precise hobby.. somewhat dangerous but totally non physical and actually quite satisfying. Time marches on and I sold the boat but still have all my fishing gear. What I am looking forward to now, is the occasional fishing trip with some of my church brothers and other Brothers and Sisters of the Hook... and it will be GREAT not being the captain and always being concerned about my first mate. Mind you, John is healthy but as the captain of the boat, that is always a responsibility on my mind. So the answer is.. there will be far fewer videos on Saltykayak's channel.. maybe a few more when I am on other Brothers boats. But also, I am starting a channel on Rumble with the name "saltychristian" where I am making some 'How to' videos for fellow reloaders and wannabe reloaders. I am using Rumble because KZbin is censuring Christian and conservative content and truth is they have been 'down throttling' my advertisers for the last 9 years. When I have less than 14,000 subscribers, I was making over $900 a month but then 'somebody' (I am assuming the homosexual organization) discovered I had 'hateful' content on all my videos (a Scripture verse) and pressured KZbin to limit advertising and reach. And although I am at nearly 32,000 subscribers, I haven't seen a penny of income in months and yet my subscriber and viewer base is steadily increasing. So I am moving to Rumble where Christians are free to worship and share the Gospel if they chose.

Hi Salty. Really sad to hear that you sold your boat. My dad got to 70+ and lost his nerve on the water. His back didn't help him either. I took him and mum out whiting fishing a couple of times at 81 but I think that will be the last time for Dad. Last time I was in OZ I also got knocked about on a couple of trips out. At 63 the body doesn't take the punishment like it used too. Was bad weather nearly the whole 4 months we were there. I often thought I'd have to look you up while passing through Miami in route from Colombia to Australia sometime for a boat ride. Sadly your new interest doesn´t interest me these days. God bless.

Lane how many times a week do you guys go out?
@SaltyKayak4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, I 'try' to go out once a week. Pretty much any day, I can take the boat out into our inter coastal but so much prefer to go out 16 to 35 miles and get into that deep, clean, clear water where there is a much greater variety and larger fish to catch. But as you know, it's all about the weather and offshore conditions that determine if we will go out deep in my small boat.. As cooler weather approaches, we will be going out to the HOPEFULLY once a week and out deep once a week but if there is an Easterly or Northerly breeze early, all conditions usually point to us not going anywhere because we will have 3' or greater swells... and it is just too dangerous.

Hi ODF, I doubt that you can find a 'good' underwater cam with a good underwater housing for under $300. I have 3 'older' Midland XTC400 cams. The reason I have Midlands is because they have the best underwater housing for the money. I think you can get great underwater videos with the GoPro setups but then you get into the big $. Good morning and Merry Christmas William. The answer is both yes and no. I am 72 years old and just need to start acting my age and those long rides and often pounding seas have been taking a negative toll on my joints.. especially the 'ol hips. So, I am selling the Answered Prayer (my boat) and beginning a new adventure. I am going to begin reloading and target shooting and hopefully, continue making videos. The only reason why you haven't seen a video is because some parts of my reloading adventure are pretty hard to get. Hi Mike, Both John and I are doing fine.. well sort of. A couple months ago, I needed an operation that put fishing out of the question for a couple months. Since then, and actually for the last couple years, my hip and shoulder arthritis has been being exasperated by rough seas, big fish and pulling hard on things that a 72 year old shouldn't be pulling on.. like cranking up a boat onto the trailer or nearly getting pulled overboard by big sharks on my 100 lb braid. I hate to say it but it looks like I may need to find a less vigorous hobby... If I don't sell the boat this Winter, I am pretty sure I will have to in the Spring.. The Lord is tapping me on the shoulder and telling me to slow down and 'act' my age...LOL
@mikebird19303 жыл бұрын
@@SaltyKayak oh I hate that for you. So glad to hear from you. I also suffer from arthritis pain in my hip. 20 years in EMS dragging people out of house and cars has taken its toll on me. @@mikebird1930 I had briefly though about a hip or shoulder replacement but my neighbor had a knee replacement and it took 6 months for her to completely recover.
