It is so pure and clear it is almost like she is reading to you and you alone, but in song. Does that make sense? When you read, you are forced to annunciate and focus on every word. That is what she does vocally. Like nothing we have ever heard before. God, this woman sends me to heaven on my own oersonal journey.

Paul Williams wrote many of the Carpenters hits. I was born in 1958, so spent my pre-adolescent to teen years as the Carpenters were bursting onto the music scene. And yes - I had a HUGE crush on Karen Carpenter. At age 66, I shed tears every time I hear one of her songs. RIP Angel Voice.

This is just smooth butter, wrapped in silk, covered in velvet. Karen could sing the phone book and I'd be all-in! I know 'easy-listening' isn't everyone's taste, and that's fine, but well-produced, quality music is still quality! Instrumentation, vocals, harmonies, lyrics...it's all here on display! Just what I needed this Friday morning! Cheers Salvo!

I’m not sure if you’ve discovered this yet, but Richard is responsible for everything behind the scenes. He arranged and directed every song they’ve ever done. Vocals, Every guitar riff, harp strum, drum intros. Literally everything about every song is Richard. He’s a classically trained pianist. Singing was a necessity for the harmony, but he’s not a soloist at all. Karen was an amazing drummer, and together and separately they both won awards for their musical performances. In the beginning years of their career, Karen sang a good bit from the drums. As they got bigger and started doing stadiums etc, they realized she would have to be at the front. Apparently she hated it at first. So, it’s easy to say that no one would know who they were without Richard. And, he wouldn’t be known as he is without Karen. They definitely needed each other. ❤

Somehow just nice to see someone getting that pleasure, even excitement, listening to this music... imagine, it's 50+ years old, and it still has the power to generate real feelings in new listeners... Imagine how it is for people who have heard it for years, and never tire of that wonderful voice... I commented on another video that I, personally, really like a few songs that were not "top of the charts", but have Karen's voice as the centrepiece...not sure of *anyone else* likes them, but "ordinary fool", "last one singing the blues", even "ave maria" and "little altar boy"...

Glad you are enjoying the Carpenters. There is a lot more in this rabbit hole to listen to. This Mascarade, Solitaire, Bless the Beast and The Children, For All We Know, All You get From Love is a Love Song, Only Yesterday and it goes on. They put out a lot of great songs in the 14 years of their recording life. It is such a shame that it was cut short by Karen's sudden death in 1983, But they left us with some great music that was loved by teens, parents and grandparents of that era. That is what made them the Top selling group of the 70's.

I Won't Last a Day Without You, music by Roger Nichols and lyrics by Paul Williams. This incredibly gifted songwriting team created some of the most heartfelt, beautiful, and timeless ballads ever written including We've Only Just Begun and Rainy Days and Mondays which the Carpenters also recorded and made into mega-hits. Add Karen's incomparable vocals and Richard's brilliance as a musician and arranger, and you have pure genius.

I love the variety you do on here. Karen Carpenter was one of the first voices I remember as a VERY young child (literally "Sing" was the first song I can remember) and she was just an unimaginable talent. Her brother Richard was also just a genius for his musicality, arranging and overall creation of the sound of The Carpenters. There are interviews with him, some fairly recent and it is like a masterclass listening to him.

When the Carpenters came along I was 10. My dad was in his 50s then and disliked, as most folks born in the first part of the 1900s, most pop music produced since Elvis hit the scene. The smooth easiness they brought to the table was a delight for his generation. Good music is timeless and I like your take on it. Keep on truckin'! -my generation.
