Listen to Welcome To The Jungle next, the album opener, and you'll understand the visceral effect this album had. There was nothing quite like it at the time. A punch to the gut and an eargasm from start to finish.

I was lucky to play tennis against Slash in the 1990’s when he was on his honeymoon in Kenya. A really nice guy, very down to earth, and amused all in the club with the amount of vodka he could consume.

I’m shocked that you’ve never heard this song!!! Holy smokes! Anyway, this is my all-time favorite song. It has everything I love. The lyrics, the tune, the hard rock, and one of my favorite guitar solos!!! Fantastic!!!! The build up to that killer guitar solo thrills me every time I hear it!!! SalvoG, I bet you didn’t want it to end, did you??? 😃😃😃. *** Check out Welcome to the Jungle

Great reaction Salvo! Don't feel bad only being here for the guitar...many of us are! (bass included!) Axl's voice is often a sticking point - but it works with their style of music & their riffs. HIGHLY suggest checking more of this album as you will get the idea of 'why' this was such a HUGE seller!! Nightrain, Welcome To The Jungle & Mr. Brownstone are absolute musts!! Then on to the Use Your Illusion albums...

Happy New Year! Starting off with Guns & Roses! WOW! LOL! You NEED to hear Paradise City, Welcome to the Jungle, Patience. Slash is a BEAST and the main guitarist. Axl Rose has a crazy vocal range. Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle has the same type of vocals, but it's so THEM. Patience is a different side of his vocals. The video for that song is really cool.

I didn't hear this until summer of 88. For me, it was a refreshing return to 70s hard rock sounds, opposed to mid 80s metal. Even as a full-on punk rocker at the time, this was a fantastic track.

This was my best friend's favorite song. I remember the day he brought over two photographs. One of himself and one of his daughter. And he asked me if I could combine the two in a drawing, I did excellent pencil to work. And he had this cassette tape of the song from guns and roses, and he wanted me to write the lyrics down underneath. And I played it over and over and over too many times to count that first week. Each time I listen to it it got better and better. Not only great lyrics by the guitar solo s where unhooked. He died of a heart attack two months later. I miss him dearly, she still calls me from time to time and reminisce and remember Jim, while we listen to this and many other guns n' roses songs. RIP brother. We miss you 👼🦂

This album is amazing! I adore Axl’s whiny wailing, for whatever reason - especially on “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” (from Use Your Illusion II.) Other classics you MUST hear are “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Mr. Brownstone” (quite underrated IMO.) My all time favorite track, though, is “Patience”: the vocals…the WHISTLING…and the *pacing*…all come together like in no other song. There’s so much great GnR music 😊❤️💐

Also Axl's voice was truly one of a kind. He had a tremendous range to go from extremely low note baritone to super high falsetto much akin to a male version of Mariah Carrey at the time. His voice has degraded with age, overuse and a previous smoking habit.

SalvoG, GnR's first single was "Welcome to the Jungle". It was in a Clint Eastwood movie which didn't do well, so nobody even noticed that song. The was still mostly unknown. "Sweet Child O Mine" was their second single and the day after it hit MTV and the radio, GnR EXPLODED. Everyone was going nuts for this band. Then, when we heard "Welcome to the Jungle", we all loved it she couldn't understand why we hadn't heard it before. That song is now in the top 3 GnR songs. Side note about "Sweet Child O Mine"...the opening riff was a practice riff that the guitar player used to do until someone heard and said...HEY!

The "Sweet Child" for whom Axl wrote the lyrics is Erin Everly, daughter of Don Everly, of the Everly Brothers. Erin was his girlfriend at the time and became his wife for about a year.

This was part of my first ever album purchases, summer of 1987. I bought this and Slippery When Wet on cassette tape at Kmart, lol. I spent the entire summer switching between the 2. Appetite is still my favorite album of all time. It is amazing from start to finish. My favorite song is probably Mr. Brownstone, but it hard to choose as it is all so good. Axl does have an amazing voice, there is a video somewhere of him singing a choir song he used to sing in church, but this was the style). Izzy is the rhythm guitarist and Slash is on lead (solos)

"Coming Down the Mountain, Ocean Size, and 3 Days" are my recommendations. GNR made us say goodbye to Hair Metal (even though they had it on this album) and here comes some straight up rock. Volume please, etc. 😊 remember staying up to see the video for Welcome to the jungle on Headbangers Ball.

Not my favorite on the album, but it was a behemoth hit for them. My favorites from that album are "Paradise City", "Rocket Queen", and "Mr. Brownstone". If I remember right, the music video cut out part of the solo, which was so dumb, so good thinking to check the times on the videos you were looking at. Radio edits always disturb the flow of a song.
