My personal favorite George Benson song has always been "On Broadway", followed by "This Masquerade" and "Breezin'". Nice to know he's still performing. Always loved his smile and cheerful attitude! Thanks for bringing that memory back.

Ah! So glad somebody listened to this classic. 🎶 Post-disco is basically disco but without the disco thumping. In my mind, a logical follow-up to "Give Me the Night" (1980) is "Just the Two of Us" (1985) by Grover Washington Jr and Bill Withers. As for more George Benson, "On Broadway" is great, as is "Turn Your Love Around."

Absolutely! "Just The Two Of Us" is the same great groove.

George Benson is an American guitarist, singer, & songwriter. He began his professional career at the age of 19 as a jazz guitarist. He covers different genres or styles such as jazz, pop, R&B & scat singing. His Breezin' album was one of the biggest selling of all time. He has such a smooth mellow voice. He has had so many great hits both singing & instrumental such as "This Masquerade", "On Broadway," "Breezin'", "The Greatest Love Of All", "Love All The Hurt Away," "Turn Your Love Around," "Inside Love," "Lady Love Me," "20/20," "Shiver," "Kisses In The Moonlight", "Affirmation" etc.

This is one of those stellar Quincy Jones productions. There is continuity going from this on to Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall and Thriller albums. Some of the same songwriters and musicians (Quincy has his favourites) and the magic sauce was recording engineer Bruce Swedien.

George is a JAZZ ICON....Once it was discovered he could sing, well he hit that scene like getting shot out of a canon!! I wore out 2 of this album alone...and have every CD he has...you cannot be unhappy, but each song he does has it's own unique sound...and the ones that are guitar/full band, are true JAZZ gems...that smile he has, that's who he is...been around a LONG time, but his music, like a rare wine, sounds even better the older it gets....get yourself this album... you'll not regret it!! PEACE!!

My mom introduced me to him when I was about 8/9 years old back in the 70s, I was in love. We'd ride in her Caddy singing away. On Broadway, Breezin, Masquerade - so many good songs. Great vid. And completely agree: the best music is the songs/albums that can completely transport you away from your everyday. Sorry to hear you were having a rough day, but glad you enjoyed the song. I've listened to this song on many trying days and it never fails to put a smile on my face and turn my mood around. Thanks for continuing to share with your audience! As @SG-js2qn said below, Post-Disco is essentially Disco with less emphasis on the beat, and more experimentation with instruments, mood, and lyrical content. It injected much more R&B and funk into the disco sound in the early 80's and eventually led to the Dance Pop of Madonna, etc. There are so many great Post-Disco classics you'd love like "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince (with an amazing Moog extended outro), "Let's Groove" by Earth Wind and Fire, "Give It To Me Baby" by Rick James, "I Feel For You" by Chaka Khan, "Caribbean Queen" by Billy Ocean (which is my go-to Karaoke song), "In My House" by Mary Jane Girls and "Ain't Nothing Going on But the Rent" by Gwen Guthrie. Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" albums can be categorized as Post Disco... and both featured production from Quincy Jones and songwriting from Rod Temperton, just like "Give Me the Night."

As well as being a great musician with a fabulous voice he also seems to be a lovely man. His interviews are always really interesting and engaging. He never planned to be a singer but his producer thought it would be good to have one song on his jazz album where he sang. It was so popular it led to his solo career.

Benson was part of the music of my years in college. My friends and I saw him perform somewhere -- it's a sign of the passing of time that I can't remember where... Another artist from that time would be Al Jarreau. Can't help but enjoy listening to his music, too -- another one whose concerts I attended back in the day when UCLA would pull in great artists for concerts.
