I REALLY hope you continue this journey. A true hero of mine for decades. He's got so many hidden gems (not just the big one like Cats in the Cradle). Would be cool to see you do Sequel and something like Mercenaries or Better Place to Be or .... Let's be honest. So many lol. I really appreciate the video!

Yes! @SalvoG, please listen to more Harry Chapin! And when you listen to “Cat’s in the Cradle,” maybe compare/contrast with “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens. These two artists, along with Billy Joel, are amazing storytellers. They know how to hook you in with the very first verse. Hard to go wrong with any song by any of these three 👍💐

Big John Wallace is the second voice. The song Sequel is the second part (finishes the story of Sue and Harry) to the song Taxi. Check out the song Mr. Tanner. Big John plays a role in this poignant song, based on a true story.

I had the privilege to see Harry Chapin in concert but in the most unusual venue, a small auditorium that had no seating. Everyone sat on the floor and he sat on a stool in front of us. After he finished, he walked among the audience shaking hands and thanking us for being there. It was an amazing night.

I saw Harry Chapin live in a small nightclub in Los Angeles, he was captivating. He started his set by saying I've got lots of stories to tell tonight and he certainly did. There was not a dry eye in the place by the end of the show. As we were all leaving after the show, people were mostly silent, all of us touched by the powerful emotions crafted by this man. I will remember that show forever.

A very nice modest, low key guy. I spent the evening with him and some friends after watching him perform. He showed up 5 minutes before the concert with his guitar and just sat on a stool by himself and performed for almost 3 hours. Such a magical night.

It’s not surprising that Harry wrote such complex lyrics when you realize he was a regular at Greenwich Village folk cafes in the 60’s where the bar was really high for songwriters, especially after Dylan came on the scene.

Another great singer songwriter & storyteller. "Taxi" was a big hit for Harry Chapin. Ten years later he followed it up with "Sequel" showing what happened to the 2 people in the story. He had so many great songs such as "Cat's In The Cradle", "Circle", "W·O·L·D", "Mr. Tanner", "Mail Order Annie", "They Call Her Easy", "I Wanna Learn A Love Song", "30,000 Pounds Of Bananas", "Shooting Star", "Halfway To Heaven", "Six String Orchestra", "Dreams Go By", Remember When The Music", "Story Of A Life" etc.

I think that's one of the best things about your reaction channel is you actually do some those who ask people to leave information in the comments I think are intellectually lazy and you certainly aren't that and you share so many things. I learn new things when you take a deeper dive, it's great! Thanks so much!

I met Harry and his brothers, Tom and Steve, at a friend's memorial service. He was quite quiet, but loosened up as people greeted him. He and his brothers sang a couple of songs that were Art's favorites (our friend, their cousin). A couple of months later, we heard he had been killed. It was a very sad day. 😞 Btw, John Wallace sings the other part of the song.

Saw Harry several times and he was such a casual, sweet, and funny guy. At his 7/24/74 concert in Central Park he literally invited anyone who could come to his house (I think it was in Huntington) that Sunday to come to a fundraising barbecue he was hosting. Hotdogs, burgers and frisbee were promised.

A lot of us from Long Island recall where we were when we heard of his death. Some were planning to attend the concert he was on his way to. I remember it vividly and we all stopped what we were doing, in total shock and horror. We thought of Harry as one of us bcz of his strong connection with Long Island. Such a talent and a tragic loss to us all. Still miss him. Hello from sunny Florida 🌞

Chay-Pin!!! SalvoG! I saw Harry in 1974 when he played my college in NYC at a lunchtime concert. He was amazing and oh so great. I didn’t know him but my friends did and told me to GO!!! It wasn’t expensive and I did, I had the break time. It was right before Cats hit and he may have played it but I wasn’t familiar. All his songs were iconic. His show ran long and I cut my Am. History class at 2pm. BEST DECISION OF MY MUSICAL LIFE. So, do Cats In The Cradle, next. The high voice was one of his musicians. I think the cellist. Joe I see you corrected the pronunciation in the comments. I was screaming at the TV 😂

Read the lyrics. That bridge is devastating. The song is about a guy who gave it all away, never fulfilled his promise. Chapin was one of many balladeers in the 1970s, including Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, John Denver and Dan Fogelberg looked inward in their songwriting and sang about pain and loss.

I see you acknowledged and corrected, all good. This is one of the most lyrically intelligent singer/songwriters to come out of the 70s, with Cats in the Cradle probably his most iconic song. This is such a close second.❤❤❤❤❤God rest ye in peace, Mr. Chapin. Gone way to soon.

I love Harry Chapin. I was binging on his music not too long ago. I was lucky enough to see him in concert 3 times. The last time was just a few months before he died and I was pregnant with my first child. Many of his songs were too long for the radio - for example Dance Band on the Titanic. Shooting Star is probably my favorite songs by him, but he had so many good songs. He was a master story-teller. It was not Harry singing the high part in the song, but one of his band members whose name escapes me now. A must listen - Better Place To Be and Mr. Tanner.

Harry Chapin was one of our great storyteller songwriters. I remember how I always was looking for this song to come on the radio. Every night I turned the radio on and went to bed. Without fail, "Taxi" came on before I went to sleep. I still remember that's when the legendary DJ Wolfman Jack had his radio show here in Los Angeles. Definitely, check out his "Cat's in the Cradle." Male reactors are usually very moved by this song.

This is a story song of which the 70s were loaded with such tunes, such as: Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and across the pop universe, The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia, or Kenny R's Gambler or Coward of the County. In each of these cases you could have made a TV show or movie from the lyrics. In some cases, they did. This song is so much a part if that genre, it's imagery is one of the tops of all tunes of the era, and one of my favorite 70s songs. Use to karaoke to this song all the time, well except for that alto tenor part in the middle!!!!!

TAXI It was raining hard in 'Frisco I needed one more fare to make my night A lady up ahead waved to flag me down She got in at the light Oh, where you going to, my lady blue It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain She just looked out the window She said, "16 Parkside Lane" Something about her was familiar I could swear I'd seen her face before But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken" And she didn't say anything more It took a while, but she looked in the mirror And she glanced at the license for my name A smile seemed to come to her slowly It was a sad smile, just the same And she said, "How are you, Harry?" I said, "How are you, Sue? Through the too many miles and the too little smiles I still remember you" It was somewhere in a fairy tale I used to take her home in my car We learned about love in the back of the Dodge The lesson hadn't gone too far You see she was gonna be an actress And I was gonna learn to fly She took off to find the footlights And I took off to find the sky Oh, I've got something inside me To drive a princess blind There's a wild man, wizard He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind Oh, I've got something inside me Not what my life's about 'Cause I've been letting my outside tide me Over 'til my time runs out Baby's so high that she's skying Yes, she's flying, afraid to fall I'll tell you why baby's crying 'Cause she's dying, aren't we all? There was not much more for us to talk about Whatever we had once was gone So I turned my cab into the driveway Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns And she said, "We must get together" But I knew it'd never be arranged And she handed me 20 dollars for a 250 fare She said, "Harry, keep the change" Well, another man might have been angry And another man might have been hurt But another man never would have let her go I stashed the bill in my shirt And she walked away in silence It's strange how you never know But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for Such a long, long time ago You see she was gonna be an actress And I was gonna learn to fly She took off to find the footlights And I took off for the sky And here, she's acting happy Inside her handsome home And me, I'm flying in my taxi Taking tips and getting stoned I go flying so high, when I'm stoned
