Dear member of Architects, While I prefer your albums from Nightmares the entire way up to Hollyhell, which oddly is likely my favourite album from you guys... Aside from a few songs on your last record, I wasn't really a fan of that one. I liked "When we were young," and I don't like "Tear Gas" at all. But it's not my band and I have no say in what you guys write. And while I'll likely listen to your older albums until I die, I'm just not big on the newer sound in comparison to what I've grown to know. It's fine though, I accept that everyone changes and I wish you guys luck with the newer styles. I'll still check out the newer album and maybe there will be more songs that are heavily. If not, I'll always have the older material and you'll have everyone else who does like the new style. Oh, and my neighbour will still have his chinchilla! Sincerely, a random idiot on KZbin.

I am a big fan since Hollow Crown and my favorite album is Lost Forever//Lost Together. These songs really shaped me and helped. I am free for new musical sounds and I listened to the new songs. I didn't really see the creativity they're famous for. The tracks sound trivial and I missed a sound which would stand out so this will be the first time I won't go to their concerts. Miss the old sound - miss the smaller venues.

That band seemed to have died with Tom Searle, sadly. I've seen them live a couple times, once touring on daybreaker and once on lflt They were incredible. The talent is most certainly there to evolve into what they claim to be looking for, and to keep the "architects touch" that got them where they are. Granted, I haven't seen them live since 2015 and Sam seems to have regressed, but still, he's better than 99% of the other guys out there. Josh Middleton is a tank of a player also. Why get him if you're just going to throw him powerchords and a few bends? Massive tease, thanks guys. I get it, it's their jobs, they want money and success and they certainly deserve it, I mean I used to tell literally everybody that liked metal about them if they hadn't heard of them before they blew up. But they're following the bring me the horizon blue print. But even bring me the horizon's newer stuff is more tolerable than this shit. It's like a slap in the face to the fans that brought them to the stage they're at. I never imagined the band that put out the master piece that is these colours don't run would ever stoop to these levels.

I'd say Architects sound change over time is the best compared to other bands, they always have stuff for the old fans but continue to experiment and make new forms of art. Architects has in my opinion never released a bad album. There aren't many bands that can say that considering just how long they have been around. A few of the newest songs weren't my favorite but the album as a whole is really good and something I don't mind owning in completion. Their music is always uplifting and just great and powerful music. The lyrics are specific and generate vivid imagery

In doing so though they have wrote songs that speak to new fans such as myself. Northlane honestly only came into my world with clockwork, as my music taste has been slowly developing to heavier stuff. That wax a gateway track for me to get into alien etc. The same will happen with architects. Like he said, you can't just keep writing music and staying in your parents basement to keep the old fans happy. @@drphilbangedme While I'd agree, I feel like the whole take of their lyrics getting worse because Tom isn't around isn't the whole reason to it. I think Holy Hell as a whole probably has the best lyrics in their discography (let's also not forget the fact that back when Tom was writing the lyrics they would either be amazing or "yeah I hate the way the world works" (Downfall and Phantom Fear for example)) and it was basically a toss up between what you'd get. I just think it's about the fact they don't want to write more thought provoking lyrics anymore because that would mean having to write more sad stuff, and that's a no for their new direction. I respect that, I just really wish it wasn't so.

@PreFXDesigns

I guess because Animals is far from close to their 'original metalcore sound' whereas Doomsday is a lot closer. That song also has a lot more screams in general whereas in Animals there are none. Despite that, it's an absolute banger because it has their energy. Just like many other songs from 'for those that wish to exist'. An album is always not for everyone unless you make an album with a very specific sound, not something you see a lot anymore in the metalcore scene.

They come across hypocritical and condescending here. Rolled my eyes multiple times. They can definitely make whatever they want, but don't act like your fan base needs to blindly follow you into whatever shit music you make. The whole animals being the biggest song they've put out thing means nothing. That was achieved after years of releasing good music and building a reputation and a loyal fan base. Plus as we all know, what's most popular certainly does not equal what's best. No, nobody is hating on you guys because you got bigger and are popular. Everyone is hating because your sound and talent demonstration are 180 ° from what you released as "angry kids". Ironically, the song "dethroned" off the album hollow crown touches on the concept of the hollow crown album, speaking of all "fake" bands in the metal scene that just want the image and success that comes with making music at the sacrifice of their music. This is literally according to them in interviews at that time. Sad days.
@deadlyninjafish
@deadlyninjafish 2 жыл бұрын
They didn't say their fans have to "blindly follow" but if you don't like it, just don't listen to it. Rather than feeling entitled to them making art specifically for you, just ignore it, it's really not that hard. If you drew something that you were really proud of and meant something to you and then someone came along and said "I don't like that personally, so therefore it's shit, draw this instead because that's why I want" you'd tell them to fuck off, it's your art not their's. At the end of the day, if enough people don't like their music and stop listening, then they'll stop making money from it. Whinging about it on their socials won't change anything, so just move on and listen to something else, nothing hypocritical or pretentious about them saying that.

@@deadlyninjafish I agree with that they don't come across as condescending etc. But it's not necessarily similar to the drawing/painting style of art that you mention. Within that sense artists tend to keep the same style because it's synonymous with them, and everyone recognises it as theirs. When a band makes a massive shift in what they produce, people are fair in saying this isn't the same band anymore, because they can easily begin to sound like many other bands out there. At the time, architects had a sound that no one could do as well as them, but on the new songs you see a lot of people drawing parallels to other bands that have released songs like them before. It's not necessarily a negative, and I have no issues with the new architects sound, but to say "don't listen to it and if they see a reduction in sales/streams they will change" doesn't really work here, because the new sound will appeal to a large new audience and will more than likely gather more interest than their older stuff, so it will seem to be the right musical choice. Which fair enough, get paid well for what you do, they've absolutely earned it. What I do question is them saying how long it takes them to get a song out, when both Dan and Josh, the main writers, have previously said how it took them about 1 day to write and record some songs from the last album. Whereas Tom had said he would personally spend multiple days tracking just the guitar for one song before helping with other areas. Seen a lot of people say it seems they were more of a Tom fan of writing than an architects fan, but didn't realise until he was gone, and I would say that's fair if it's what you're in to, but you have to expect that people who have followed a band for a decade or more to be a bit sad about the change of sound if it's not to their taste, everyone gets excited for their favourite bands new songs after all. Anyway, TLDR; classic architects is amazing, new architects is good, but even if old fans are sad, new ones will replace them and they won't mind so much
