My jaw dropped the first time I heard gravedigger and I became a fan for life. Music has to evolve and bands change. I love what they are doing now as I did then. If I want to hear the same song over and over for years I'll put on a New Found Glory album and love it

he's right, almost everyone uses the term wrong. if you are referring to sections where almost all instrument play the same syncopated rhythm,, that's a BEATDOWN, a breakdown is when the song chills out, getting quieter etc.

The newest music isn’t so much for me but I’m so so happy that Sam and the band are having fun with their lives and overcoming their struggles and loss. To me that’s more important and to see how genuine of a guy sam is makes the band so much more special

I can't tell you how many times architects have saved my life! Actually have the "hope is a prison" tattooed on my leg, I battled pancreatic cancer and it was towards the end of when Tom Searle was battling right before he passed, his strength and their music was what pushed me to keep fighting no matter how bad I wanted to give up, it just still to this day breaks my heart that Tom died I never got to meet him but It felt like I knew him in a weird way like we were connected (and not in a weird creepy way a stalker would say) I just wish more than anything that he would have beat it, he was so young and talented, RIP Tom Searle! You Will forever be a legend, and sam carter, and Dan Searle and the rest of you guys...I'm sure Tom is looking down on you smiling at what you guys have done with the band since his passing, and Nik!! That's so fucking cool that Sam's dad watches your videos

Sam is such a smart, honest and humble person... Listening to him is always like a lesson about different shades of life and emotions... He opens people's eyes so often! I think we saw so many things from different points of view thanks to him! At least I did. That's why I follow Architects with my head high, no matter what other people say. This band deserves a huge respect.❤

The change is awful though. Not executed well in any way. I’m glad they’re happy but they didn’t bridge the sound enough. They went from being a heavy ass fucking band to not a single proper breakdown or screams in a single album. Even FTTWE had a shit load of heavy songs. They abandoned entirely the sound that they crafted. Sounded like no other band and now they sound like your typical garage rock band.

@@josecanal7556 exactly. They’re trying to do what Bring me the Horizon did but they just didn’t execute it well. Same thing with asking Alexandria. It reminds me of how they did it. This entire interview is phenomenal. Especially hearing one of his biggest influences is Underoath. I've loved Architects for years but still have yet to see them live. I'd sell my testicles and/or kidneys to see them just once. Life isn't good but the music always makes it better. Side note: "burn down my house" is one of their "heaviest" and most meaningful songs to me. Especially for what I'm currently going through. Much love to everyone and remember, you are worth more than money could ever comprehend. Stay strong

Tbh not really a big fan of the last two albums because of how much I love the old Architects since I was a kid... I still jam to the old albums and I thank Architects for the music... it might be generic for most fans but I am sucker for such songs...but at the same time happy that they're doing what they love but coming from someone who is like neutral and open about what they put out but is it just me or the song writing and everything sounds so similar that it is hard to differentiate the songs in this album especially... which is like really harsh comment to make but that's how I felt listening to the whole album.

I'm happy to see that they're happy. All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us got me through some tough times. I don't really vibe with the newer stuff but that's ok. Older I get the more I realize people change as life moves forward. I still remember being irate when KoRn went in a different direction. Then many other bands did the same. Bring me the Horizon, Parkway Drive, etc. It made me so sad but truth is we can't all be angry forever. If you like the new stuff, great, otherwise hang on for a bit. There'll be another Architects or PWD or BMTH that comes along and blows our minds once again.

i expected the boys to have fun in the new album and boy have fun they did. i love that Sam doesn't hold anything back. he's such a genuine, loving & caring person through and through and seeing some people on the internet shitting on the album is understandable but only to an extent, like you can not like or even hate something but don't attack people personally just because you don't like it. there are thousands of songs out there & you're not being held hostage to listen to only Architects your whole life. go listen to other bands, find new colours in the spectrum & broaden your music taste. tbh i don't like Architects' new album that much compared to ones that came before it but i wasn't disappointed because i felt like it's only about time for these guys to finally have fun and let themselves loose. try out everything that makes them feel happy, joyful about writing music. Holy Hell will always be my favourite but The Classic Symptoms of A Broken Spirit will always be that album where i think that they've finally got over their trauma, sat down, had fun, be themselves and wrote songs with the biggest smiles they've ever got

people complaining about Josh's role in Architects are so silly. I've seen people saying "he's being underutilisied in Architects" and I replied that he is literally the creative mind behind all the riffs. what he does there is what he wants to do. it's not like Sam Carter's holding him at gunpoint, saying "Do a three chord Rammstein riff!" Iit's insane how irrationally angry people get when a musician they like does something new. if you don't like "tear gas", go listen to "heavy is the crown" by Sylosis. They still exist, you know? :D

I fucking love heavy, its like metalcore always go buttrock, why not change to more heavy? still a change, still a evolution. Why does it always have to go more of something my mom would listen. Anyway respect to all bands and cool dudes, its just my personal preference on music. (parkway drive change hurt me the most). I am striving to improve as a human being, and stop being an asshole about music that i love changing into music that I dont, but it still fucking hurts when I hear a cheap cheesy new metalcore song that sound exactly like every cheap cheesy metalcore song, and having the bands says that they needed to Evolve, as a creative process, they cant do the same they always did, so they do what every1 do. here again i am being an asshole...

TLDR: Finn McKenty of the Punk Rock MBA (like Nick? You’ll like Punk Rock MBA channel) commented on how he was happy with MGK’s first Pop Punk album, and he was happy about MGK’s comments in the press at that time, regardless of what anyone had to say about it, because MGK and Yungblud made rock look FUN in their music video for, “I THINK I’M OKAY,” and all subsequent music videos. The following is why I’m SO down with Architects making more accessible music, and music videos that look like fun is being had. Hell, Sam himself admitted in this interview that after all the darkness and therapy they’ve been through + a lockdown they’re looking to go and have some fun.. these poor guys deserve it. You know, when Mike Shinoda released his album Post-Traumatic he really started to personally connect with the community (spontaneous meet & greets, live streaming with us, all sorts of stuff), and he religiously dropped simple music videos in the lead up. One of the last singles was, “Ghosts,” and the song was fun, starting to pull away from the darkness, it’s a heart warming sock puppet music video (literally), and the music video cuts in from black with Mike on FaceTime on his computer with someone. He wearily says, “… I’ve had enough hard days… It’s like if I wake up and I feel good I shouldn’t feel guilt about.. having fun, you know?” Begin sock puppet music video. Architects DESERVE to wake up, feel good, and have fun. If they bring that into the music videos, performances, interviews, and music itself? Our scene will ONLY get better for it. This is about fun music. That’s a MAJOR driving factor for people onboarding to anything, and it was also the case with MGK’s Tickets To My Downfall. That’s why Rock (painting with a broad brush on purpose) has fallen to the 3rd or 4th most popular genre. Why are Rap, Pop, and EDM on top? When people got into Rock N Roll from the jump whether we’re talking Little Richard or Chuck Berry, whoever, it was normies who were looking for a fun thing to do and found a fun looking thing to partake in. That’s how rock n roll became so #1 for our parent’s generation or grandparent’s generation. Why? Think to yourself: if you were a normie, and you saw promo material of •a group of dudes scowling in front of an abandoned building by themselves and the music was then screaming about stuff, or •a bunch of people smiling, laughing, bumping into each other, jumping around, and there’s tons of colored lights and shit, and the music has a good beat and melody? Which thing looks more fun to the normie? Taking Molly, laughing, and group participation meanwhile Steve Aoki or Martin Garrix or blackbear happen to be the backdrop for that. You have a lot of artists who are doing promo as pop yet they’re not pop, but they’re adding that tag just to get out there. Being Goth myself and enjoying the genre Goth Rock (Soror Dolorosa, Traitrs, The Awakening, Joy Division, Soft Kill, Blue Mountain Expansion, so on.. however, artists who aren’t Goth Rock have put out standalone tracks that adhere to Goth Rock song structure, tonality, and production > see > “schizophrenia” by XXXTENTACION and compare it to a Goth Rock track & group such as “Abberations” by Pawns… or take “High Enough” by K. Flay and compare it to a Goth Rock meets Dark Wave track & group such as “No Way Out” by Clan of Xymox or “Nine While Nine” by Kill Shelter/Antipole), and in enjoying Goth Rock? From late 2018 forward I caught on to groups that were DEFINITELY Goth Rock or/and Dark Wave, yet they branded themselves as, “Dark Pop.” They reached so many more people than they would have normally. Who do I have to thank for that? Billie Eilish. Hearing the word Goth carried a connotation with it. By calling themselves Dark Pop on the other hand? Fast forward one year and the Goth Rock/Dark Wave band, “VOWWS, are being invited to score/provide the backing music for Comme Des Garçons runway show at Paris Men’s Fashion Week. If you went to their Spotify though they described themselves as, “Death Pop.” With many Post-Punk tracks becoming popular on modern apps (take “Freaks” by Surf Curse) eventually, from early ~2021 forward, I started to see groups add, “Post-Punk,” as a genre tag along with, “Dark Pop.” Billie Eilish being pop, but bringing dark elements into her fashion, music videos, and appearance acted as a gateway, and you had kids and adults wanting more, “Dark Pop,” so some bands made a genius marketing move, took the, “Dark Pop,” tag instead of, “Gothic Rock,” changed nothing about their music, and ran with it… You’ve got to think of a normie’s perspective to get into something. The cultural zeitgeist had built from 1994 to late September of 2000. Despite all the work that’d come before a certain group there were accessibility problems despite how big Nu-Metal had become (literally taking over Woodstock in 1999). Korn were too dark, heavy, weird, and eccentric. Slipknot seemed like murders, and took the prior observations on Korn to a new level. There was a lot of visual flair happening. Then in March, April, and May of 2000, “Last Resort,” “Stupify,” and, “Break Stuff,” came on the radio. Musically, it wasn’t as hellish as what Slipknot, Coal Chamber, Korn, Sepultura, Mudvayne, or so many others had to offer. There were no time signature changes, the music had a familiar structure with a LITTLE bounce and a little edge, there was still a quirk to each, each of those three bands (Papa Roach, Disturbed, and Limp Bizkit) looked INFINITELY more relatable and approachable to the normie than Mudvayne and Slipknot, yet each song was still laced with profanity. This set the stage for both the radio single and the music video, for “One Step Closer,” by Linkin Park to arrive, and fuckin DOMINATE with normies. There wasn’t much of a quirk (outside of two vocalists, and an even coat of red hair dye.. pretty mild for 2000), and it was squeaky clean (no profanity) for the kids who had to worry about their parents. It packed all the bounce, all the anger, and a very novel, head turning moment. Linkin Park worked with people who DID enjoy Mudvayne and it worked with your normie who liked Backstreet Boys. That record by itself has sold more copies than the total copies legendary group The Cure have sold across their entire career… If something is more fun then more people are going to get on board. For those bashing Architects I don’t think they did much to support the group in the past because ALL of their top 10 songs on Spotify are new(er) releases. People who dug the new(er) work are providing more support. Let’s have fun 🙌🏼 Machine Gun Kelly was right, “Rock music needs to have more fun.” Architects still pack LOADS of heaviness and jarring moments across, “classic symptoms,” and it’s rife with gallows humor of song titles, written in lowercase like someone reading a paragraph of what’s fucked in the world at present, and despite the structure and tonality of, “classic symptoms,” their lyrics are just as world building, just as illustrative, just as deep, and just as poignant (something BMTH and MIW have been failing at on their poppier and more mid tempo tracks: lyrics don’t have the same complexity, depth, provable on paper.. take, “It Never Ends,” vs, “in the dark,” by BMTH despite I adore both songs), and Architects still bring it just as they have with anything off of, “Lost Forever, Lost Together” or whatever back catalogue you wish to pick, and I adore 95% of, “classic symptoms.” It’s fuckin GAS. We should be allowed to have even SLIGHTLY more fun. MGK was right whether or not people like it. 🤝

I love their change tbh I'm glad they dont feel forced to play the same widdley diddley bits in every song. (I don't really care for "tear gas" but I can see why he loves it😅) And I'm beyond happy that they are in a better state of mind. Especially after losing a brother. Massive love for the members of Architects.

about the "getting more people into metal" thing: yes, that is of course a good thing overall. but it can lead to a few hypothetical problems: - if more bands join the trend to appeal to bigger audiences and "get softer", that type of sound will be the one to attract the masses. which means less bands will be releasing heavier music in the future. - bands getting mainstream recognition is nice until they get too big for your average metal-focused venue. more expensive tickets, less moshpits and financial difficulties for smaller venues will be the result. - the few bands who stay heavy notice that all their brethren are making more money with a new style, so they either follow their example or stay in a genre with less demand. this means fewer gigs, less money and artistic frustration. I get that it's good to have bands who bring people in who later down the line settle down in the metal community. that is great. but we shouldn't wish for every band to be like this. I don't wanna live in a world where that is the standard for metal. variety is what makes the genre so special. the fact that we have our architects, lorna shore, korn, zeal&ardor, tool, dance gavin dance, behemoth, opeth, mastodon or leprous. it'd be sad if everyone started to do the same!

You've LITERALLY described what 'sellout' means....

Yeah that's a downside but they aren't compromising on a mainstream sound to sell out to a pop / casual crowd. They're simply just making the core elements the genre more accessible for a rock/heavy crowd - like none of their music can be played to a pop audience, take it from me as someone who loves Gaga, Charli XCX and Rina. These guys are still heavy as fuck, just with a different approach. Nick was correct in saying they are a gateway band for the metalcore community: they have the longevity, influence, albums, sound etc that make them both recognizable but also a good representation of what metalcore sounds like from various ranges

I really don't think architects are selling out at all. Their image is kinda still the same 5 dudes in a metal band screaming about the miserable world we live in. They aren't doing massive media campaigns or featuring a bunch of mainstream popular artists: even the album roll outs are the same as before. All they've done is just change sounds and taking into account everything that goes into releasing/producing/touring an album it's not that much. They're the same architects

@@fanrosefabrose9457 the new record has much less screaming so there is that >.> nah but I get both sides. I saw them twice (during the holy hell era when they were pretty big already) and I would go see them again when they come to my city. it's very unlikely that they play a set full of songs I don't like. they won't stop playing the crowdpleasers after all. but I totally get it when some fans are alienated by the new "feel" of the metalcore band they saw play classic heavy core music 10 years ago. for me it happened with ghost last year. one of my favourite bands, I loved everything they did since their first album... but then they put out a full hair metal album that sounds like shit to me but everybody seems to love. and they're bigger than ever. now they have backup singers and cheesy shows that just don't interest me.
