He DID do wrong, he was telling people he thought were private businessmen how to get around the rules his employers impose to protect footballers from being exploited. Fantastic manager but inherent prejudice's in us all means he never got the credit he deserved. Pioneered sports science in the Premier League arguably more than Wenger whom had the riches and luxury of being at Arsenal, whereas Allardyce took a small provincial team in Bolton to great heights. His time at England cut short by journalists who thought he wasn't worthy of the job because of those same prejudice's which rule he's boring cause he's 'sam allardyce' whereas if he had an accent other than English and had an aura about him because of that, he'd have been given genius status.
