@@toxic_lobotomy263 let me weave the tale of the creation of Sam and Max to help clear this up. Sam and max were actually created by Steve Purcell's little brother who made comics about them. Steve's brother would leave his comics around unfinished, so Steve would finish them except with the characters commenting on the bad drawings and poor logic. Pretty much just to mess with his brother. On Steve's 18th or 19th birthday, Steve was given the rights to Sam and Max from his brother, and how things started.

That line and the drink one implies to me that Max is actually a casually drinking (or previously heavily drinking) bisexual, but Sam convinces Max every time he isn't (easily, because he respects Sam's opinion on some things). Not sure way he feels the need to do that. Regardless, Max hates seeing anyone kiss apparently, but loves pain. lol
