Three years ago everyone was talking this guy up as a money market wizard. The confidence people had in him was reflected in the amount of money they invested. This ‘talk it up’ market mentality has one outcome and we know what it is. He was talked up as a genius who knew more than anyone else. This is the price of believing your own BS. And that’s not limited to Sam Bankman Fraud either. It applies to his followers who swallowed it whole.

Bankman-Fried made it sound complicated to stir up despair and then presented his pitch as the only solution to make the situation easier. He has mental issues, but in a grown-up world, he has to pay for the pain he caused in the crypto community.

It was worse than negligence. He used his customers accounts as a liquid asset even though his contract with them explicitly stated the opposite. He's a thief who was counting on his parents political connections to keep him safe.

No. The guy is guilty and will have to serve his time. That's it. You don't lose the first amendment, or the ability to communicate online, or through phones, because you were convicted of a crime. Imagine that... They lock people up and then those people are never heard from again? We've seen how that plays out before and it isn't anything resembling "Justice" .. just another crime .. against humanity.

No, no, she was being scape-goated because she was a successful woman, remember? Even though Balwani got a longer sentence and hers was subsequently reduced further 🙄. Of course, she wasn't found guilty on all charges, and we don't know what SBF's sentence will actually be yet, but, yeah, I always felt she got off quite lightly too.

SBF hasn't been sentenced yet. All of this "hundred years in jail" is just talking about the maximum possible sentence. The sentencing guidelines give a broad range of possible sentences, depending on the severity of the crime and any aggravating or mitigating factors.

And Belfort served 22 months in prison after he turned states evidence and cooperated with the FBI. Both were caught and held accountable because they stole from rich people. I’ve been on a jury and we had a quick verdict of 3 hours. 2 of those was waiting for our lunch to come in. Wouldn’t be surprised if the verdict was concluded faster than the 4 hours for SBF.

I saw the photo of his parents walking towards the courthouse. The look on their faces: somber. They both knew that their son was going to get convicted, go to prison, and that there was no way out for him. The irony of his last name being Fried, because, he got fried and burnt in the cross-examination. Good riddance.

This whole thing is such a shame. So many were misled by him and deal with their $$$ losses. Charities, etc. will be asked to return donations received. Hurting more innocent people. And bear in mind, most juries start out with, "Hey, let's have lunch first. What does everyone want?" and then spend a half-hour debating where the Door Dash driver should go. Then of course they need time to eat. And they also have to work out who was going to be foreperson. And then they have to go over the judge's directions on what they have to do. So yeah, the jury spent maybe two hours debating the evidence before find this guy guilty.
