Darnold has something you can't teach- great football instincts. He's shifty. The ability to buy time and make defenders miss gives him extra time to make a play. You can't teach that.

That last touchdown by Darnold was a gift because Penn State had three defenders covering that WR and they didn't tackle shit!

Aaron Rodgers 2.0. All the arm talent in the world, and ability to extend plays and is mobile enough to run when needed. I think he'll go down as the best USC quarterback ever. He has a good chance to do what Leinart did and win a Heisman and championship in the same season. Kid is just amazing. By far the best freshman QB and up there with best QB in general

Steven Ellis I don't think he will go down as the best USC QB of all time in terms of only what he did at SC because I see him leaving after only his second year of starting, or after his RS Somphomore year. Not enough to unseat Leinart in stats or championships.

Kohryu Lippit I've been following Jameis Winston since his senior year in high school and watched damn near every throw he made at FSU. Read the rape case before you start spouting off. He received the crab legs for free, hence why the guy at Publix was fired after the incident. If to you a cursing tirade is yelling "Fuck her right in the pussy" then lol. The man helped bring back FSU to national prominence and is changing a culture in Tampa Bay. If that is not leadership then I do not know what is.

There are guys in the NFL who wouldn't even attempt that last throw to Burnett. Given the moment and the stakes, the only other throw I've seen that compares is Leinart's 4th and 9 against Notre Dame.

He can be amazing, but his arm is too damn strong as he's too damn good in a collapsing pocket for his own good. He's too young as a player for the gifts his body can give him. He has a rocket like farve, but either his receivers are being blown off their routes or he's also pretty inaccurate. Lots of missed complete passes, lots of passess his receiver couldn't catch. Lots of overthrown balls. I feel like him and Rosen might be the next similar 1-2 comparison like Winston and Mariota

A little early to crown him. PSU secondary trash. Eight years ago, we made another USC QB whos most notable NFL play was running into is OL butt and fumbling look like a HOF'er. USC offensive players dont have the best track record in the league: Leinart, John David Booty, LendDale White, Reggie Bush, Nelson Agholor and pretty much every WR that played there in the past 20 years. He may be an NFL star, but far from guaranteed off one game against a really bad defense.
@hiphoploverjon9180
@hiphoploverjon9180 8 жыл бұрын
Only one on your little list of let downs in the NFL is Leinart. Still too early to say about Agholor. Booty and White weren't heralded to be high draft picks nor 1st rounders. Keep discrediting USC like many others do though. We're still proud to have the most draftees out of ANY round and we're proud that we have the most NFL Hall of Famers out of any school.

Against a bad defense? I agree it's hard to project after just one game, but Penn State was ranked top 25 in passing efficiency defense and passing yards allowed. There were only a handful of better defenses in college football last year. People are hyping Darnold so much over this one game because Darnold was the only QB in 14 games to pass for over 300 yards and 3+ TDs on the Penn St secondary so you don't know what you're talking about. Also, it's dumb to compare past players from any school that were under different coaches and in a different offensive system. Sam Darnold is his own individual, what happened to Leinart or anyone else is irrelevant. They weren't even coached by the same people.
@srchnfrcj
@srchnfrcj 7 жыл бұрын
Those numbers were over inflated. The Big Ten had no legit bonafide passing offense last year outside of Penn State, unless you count Indiana haha. Penn State's D was like Gonzaga basketball this year, feasting on weak competition and then getting exposed on the biggest of stages. Keep trying...

@DCJayhawk57
@DCJayhawk57 7 жыл бұрын
Not jumping on the hype train just yet. Accuracy all over the place. Long wind-up and inconsistent mechanics. Doesn't throw a tight spiral. Very few of his passes are thrown on a line so I'm not sure of his arm strength, but it looks NFL average at best. He has some work to do. He isn't Andrew Luck. He isn't Aaron Rodgers. He isn't Jameis Winston. Sure, he's got some skills outside the pocket, but a lot of guys who excel at playground ball don't amount to much at the next level. We'll see what he does next year, but the top QB prospect last year at this time was Brad Kaaya and now he's not even in the conversation. More exposure has a way of exposing people. I see just as much Mark Sanchez as any of those other guys.

Really? I don't see the big hype. All I see is overthrown balls, lucky high catches on third downs that gives them the first down. Lots of screens, and bad football placement. He only looks good cause of the faster wrs he has. His wrs can catch itinerary short screens and gets lots of YAC fastly. Like other NFL USC qbs that include names like Matt leinart, Mark Sanchez, and Matt Barkely, I see the same bust potential in Darnold. It's the team that makes the Qb look good. The Qb dosent make the team look good because it's already good. As in with Carson Wentz, he made his North Dakota team look good for all the NON NFL talent he had to work with. Give me a small school Qb and he will win more games for me than a big name school Qb that excels only with the great playmakers surrounding him. Fuck! You all don't know a dam thing about qbs.

JetsNation same, idk why people are so high on him.
@DPMixing
@DPMixing 7 жыл бұрын
JetsNation He only looks good because of the faster WRs he has? Lol. His #1 WR Juju Smith-Schuster ran a 4.5 and his #2 Darreus Rodgers ran a 4.90 at his pro day a few weeks ago. USC WR's weren't known for their speed at all. And no one those guys are going 1st day of the draft. The reason why there is hype behind Sam Darnold is simple. He was a 19 YEAR OLD freshmen that threw for 453 yards and 5 TDs (both Rose Bowl records) against a top 25 ranked defense and he only lost 1 game last season putting up 3000 yards and 30 TDs. He has a huge ceiling that's only just started to unfold since he was still a young player. And if you're going to complain about overthrown passes and ball placement then you acknowledge the other side. How many times was he pressured in that game? He got pressure on over half his snaps. He's constantly moving away from pressure and still getting the ball out. A lot of hype college QBs put up numbers standing behind a great OL and just pick apart a defense or are dual threats that just run at the first since of pressure, but Darnold has natural pocket awareness. Check the advanced stats Darnold was top 5 in the country in completion percentage against the blitz by pro football focus and #2 in total QBR by ESPN. USC had one of the best 3rd down conversion rates in CFB. You're tripping trying to say it was all his WRs and thinking you know better than the tons of sports writers, analysts, and scouts that have talking about him.
@mikeyhope7577
@mikeyhope7577 7 жыл бұрын
DPMixing that's understandable but he may not keep at that level. Hackenberg was the best recruit out of high school and looked unstoppable his freshman year. Then he declined and looked abysmal last season at the NFL level. Darnold has serious mechanical issues with his throwing motion and footwork. His wind up time is really slow, and he simply is inaccurate a lot of the time. I hope he is able to improve next season and be elite in the NFL. I just feel like he is way over hyped from what I saw of him.
@DPMixing
@DPMixing 7 жыл бұрын
Hackenberg was good his freshman year but Darnold has already proven much more successful. Compared to Hackenberg's first season, Darnold threw for 10 more TDs with less INTs and more yards... and he did that all playing 3 less games since he came in as the starter midseason. I see your point that players don't always develop on the trajectory we expect after a good season, but for every Hackenberg there's a Marcus Mariota, Jamies Winston, etc. Time will tell which category Darnold falls into. I completely agree about the mechanical issues, but I think those are much more easy to correct and/or compensate for than the intangibles like pocket awareness, composure, vision, coverage diagnosing ability, etc which Darnold seems to have in spades. Let us not forget that there have been severa successful NFL QB's that didn't have perfect mechanics, Philip Rivers comes to mind. You say he's inaccurate quite a bit, I think that comes from the mechanical issues he can work on, but Darnold still had a 67% completion percentage last season which is impressive. Hackenberg's was 58% in his best season. Also Darnold's shown the flashes that he can squeeze a ball into incredibly tight windows when he has to, it's just the consistency he needs to find. If he can find that then the sky's the limit.
