I was a sophomore in high school when the Warriors came out, and my buddies and I went to a Drive-in theater to see it. This put a smile on my face. Michael Beck is cool. Thanks, Rob.

I suspect that you are right, Joan. Did you fit into one of those two categories? I think I was in my twenties. I remember close to nothing about it, but as a single and (almost still) a kid, I DO remember going with two or three guys and hating it. Back then, you didn't talk or have conversations on your phone during the movie, but I do remember all of us ripping it apart after the lights came on. @@joansmith1195 Ah, the good ol' days...

As always a simply great conversation with Michael Beck. He was relaxed and clearly enjoying being able to relate the stories he told. I remember the warriors being an unreal experience at the movies when I saw it. Some of his other projects when you showed the stills I remembered the shot, but not the film. I guess I'll have to rewatch a few things. Michael Beck is a consummate story teller and together with a magic bowie knife made this episode special.

A great interview of a wonderful actor. A Man Called Horse and the sequel The Son of a Man Called Horse were movies I enjoyed when I was young. Richard Harris has been a favorite actor of mine for years. I have had difficulty remembering who played his son. Now I will remember Michael Beck because of the interview. I have had a life long love of Native American lore, books and movies. I read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee years ago and watched a miniseries based on it I believe was on HBO. My interest in Native American lore is what motivated me to watch both movies. Also I am a fan of Sam Elliot for all of his western work. He and Tom Selleck have made more Louis La Moure ( forgive me for my poor spelling of this name) westerns than other actors. Thanks Rob.

"The Warriors" was one of those surprise film successes with another, second-life on video hits that became a phenomenon of that period of those early local video rental stores and national chains like Blockbuster. Along with "Mad Max" produced in Australia which came out about the same time, dubbed with American accents, ironically starring the American born Mel Gibson. Both of 'em Westerns despite their modern and post apocalyptic settings, huge successes from all that exposure that still have a loyal and growing cult following today. Another one at about that time, not a Western, but a fave of mine that was a nearly total video discovery was "Eddie and the Cruisers", an early Tom Berenger film with Michael Pare. With a great soundtrack album that came out of that one. Wonderful stories from Mr Beck, a very bright and interesting guy.
@AWordonWesterns Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Hiram. Michael was a terrific guest. I liked EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS too.
@hiramnoone Жыл бұрын
@@AWordonWesterns Michael Pare's next film in fact was the Walter Hill directed "Streets of Fire", which Hill claimed was the one closest to his heart, containing all the things he thought cool while growing up, i.e. Action, motorcycles, vintage muscle cars, kissing in the rain and rock 'n roll. Another box office failure yet now considered ahead of its time, and highly influential cult classic hit on video. Originally envisioned by Hill as the first of a trilogy using the same lead character. The part first offered to Tom Cruise, then Patrick Swayze.

Rob...did you just pull a knife on Swan? 😯 As a knife collector, I was thrilled to see this authentic movie prop from "Gone To Texas". Congratulations on this awesome birthday present. Very classy of you to offer it to Michael. When he first pulled the Bowie from it's sheath, I was shocked to see a...bottle opener on the blade? Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a gut hook. This feature does not appear on the knife in the film. Did the previous owner modify the knife?

I liked "The Warriors" and I pretty much have liked Micheal Beck's acting parts. I always thought he was a great choice as Richard Harris ' s son because he looked the part. I used to love to hear of Richard Harris's drinking stories and Peter O'Toole too. Got a kick out of the "Green Light":joke too. That's a fine Bowie knife and you all display a great sense of charity in willingness to share it but at the end of the day I'm glad you got to hang on to it Rob. I also love the morals associated with Westerns but the "somewhat flawed" heroes are my favorite. Cowboys aren't perfect but we don't have to be; after all we're just cowboys. 😊

Awesome interview, you know it's kinda crazy bcuz for me, I never liked western movies as a young person! But once I got in my 60''s I just wanted to watch every western I could. Now,I'm 70,and I'm still crazy about westerns bcuz I appreciate the hard life these ppl lived. For me,we take too much for granted how easy it is to just cook a meal. Unbelievably shocking, however, I seem to eat healthier food bcuz I fight high cholesterol, which is hereditary! But the most important thing to me is I see Family falling apart, that we just don't visit or get together like we use to! I think that's very sad. If I had my way,I'd live in a "John Wayne" shack with a fishing pole and a shotgun,right by the river and a rifle too for killing deer and squirrel. It would make me feel sad though,just to kill an animal for food! I luv meat and vegetables from a garden! Even at my age,I still think I could do this! God is so good to me! Thank you for posting this,I luv it ❤
