I think I kind of share Sam's idea about nominative pseudo-determinism, and I like his kind of sociological explanation for the power of names. I grew up around a lot of suburban white boys with names like "Aidan", "Connor", and "Hunter" who tended to be intellectually sterile and not particularly interesting (to me). I think that says a lot about the environment they grew up in and the kind of parents they had too, of course. I'd like to give my own kids, if I ever have them, strong names evocative of great stories and antiquity, but then nominative determinism could work against them because the social environment (as it did in my case with the name Connor, which has been made weak and gay by particular circumstances) they're in would probably be full of kids who'd tease them for having a strange name and feckless teachers and adult functionaries who'd constantly mispronounce it.

My MAN, my man of discerning taste! Yeah man, Mark Kozelek is one of the only musicians I've come across who has articulated depression and the sense of falling out of love with living and losing youth in a way that I understand and find deeply moving and human. Also, lol dude I think the only other place someone recognized my pfp and pointed it out was under a Shane Gillis video. Pretty surreal, right?

@@foodchewer I had to double take the pfp. I very hardly find anyone who knows them, disappointing really. Down colorful hill and rollercoaster are easily in my top 5 albums of all time. Medicine bottle, mistress and strawberry hill are some of my favourite songs ever.

​@@freezinfrog It is disappointing, I know. You'd think with how popular confessional emo and sad-sack music was and continues to be, they'd be more well known and loved. Unfortunately, I don't see too many people really getting into Mark's music anymore though, especially after all the things that have come out about his personal life. Oh, and do you prefer the piano or more shoegazey guitar version of Mistress? I think I'm more partial to the piano version, but it depends on my mood.
