Boomers are simultaneously the most fearful of being ripped off/ scammed while also being the most scammed cohort globally. This fear often presents itself as severe agitation and posturing at all times. If you work customer service you soon realize they get everything they deserve

I work at grocery store (Food Lion) in the meat dept and the amount of dumbfucks I have to talk to is unreal. Guys thinking they know a thing or two about MEAT. Drives me crazy. “Hey can I get a Ribeye with a little less fat on it” Okay dumbfuck. I think what you’re looking for is a London Broil or a Sirloin.

I sell decorative rock and landscape materials for a living. I like working there because it lets me learn about diesel equipment and operate heavy machinery. But dealing with the public at large is pure existential agony. After three years, it’s gotten to the point where I can size people up based on how they pull into the lot and their gait as they walk up to me.

You adapt by putting yourself in a state of heightened awareness because you know the smallest missed detail could be fatal when dealing with the public. Not necessarily because they are inherently malicious, which they certainly can be, but because of their even more dangerous ignorance and negligence.

I know exactly what you mean. For me it's in the posture and in the eyes. Probably a third of the people I see in public are totally checked out and on a short fuse and you can feel it with a glance.

and this is where i always disagree with nick. car salesman and dealerships are the problem. he says "then don't come here!" but also when you talk about carvana or buying from private sellers he'll tell you you should have gone to a dealer. No you shouldn't have. You should honestly never go to a dealer. If possible you should buy local from a private seller. This is your absolute best case scenario. There is no reason to trust a dealer more than a private seller. Dealers buy cars from those same sellers and just mark up the price without doing anything to the car. Usually they don't even bother detailing them. They say they inspect them but they don't. If you were going to buy a used car from a dealer, you should get it inspected by a third party mechanic and get the carfax report or other vincheck service anyway. Any warranty a dealer gives you aside from the factory warranty on a new car is not worth the paper it's printed on. So you are just paying extra for nothing. The financing they give you will always be worse than getting your own loan. Go to literally any credit union and you'll get an interest late that's half what the dealer would offer you. Carvana is also upselling and offers no extra security like a dealer but at least they don't waste your time all day. I've never bought a car from a dealer that takes less than 6 hours. They are literally sitting around doing nothing deliberately trying to tire you out so that after hours and hours you won't be as sharp when you're talking numbers with the finance guy. That is why they do that. Even if they weren't trying to rip you off, just think about it, they have to pay their employees and they have to pay for the building and for the parking lot. So they have to charge you more than a private seller or a company like carvana just to not lose money.
