I sold decorative stone years ago. Super wealthy part of the city, I would have to go out and move 150 pound stones stacked on each other by hand to see which one these assholes wanted. One time this couple came in a new Yukon Denali, mid 40s. They have full alcoholic drinks in their hands. It is almost closing. I jumped on the opportunity. These drunks proceed to pick out $10k worth of stone they didn't need and had no idea what it was. Random bullshit that didn't go together. The hog woman fell over on some stone and dropped her booze and they both started cracking up. Soon after, the guy pulled out the credit card, secured my $500 bonus.

By nice things instead of a lot of things
@gregnunes4593 ай бұрын
"Buy it nice or buy it twice" is the phrase that encapsulates this. And it's always seemed true to me, as well. I typically try to buy the highest end quality or performance thing possible, only when I've tried to cut corners did I end up getting fucked and it doesn't last or has a ton of unforeseen problems. If you're willing to spend 80% of the same amount, you may as well go the full 100% to get the expensive thing in my experience.
@gregnunes4593 ай бұрын
Oh, just read an above comment as well. Made a really good point, in addition to my other comment, that's an important, crucial note. To DO YOUR RESEARCH. It's not like it's a matter of just blindly throwing money at the most expensive thing and hoping for the best. If you're going to invest a chunk of money in, basically anything, it really pays off to set aside some time to see the options out there and others experience with them, don't listen to biased reviews either etc etc I also kinda always anticipate the worst, within reason, so when anything less than that happens, I end up pleasantly surprised, that also sorta helps. For example, you read that X thing you're looking into buying is fantastic, but it really breaks down after around the 2 year mark. A really common example for that is the batteries in a lot of stuff. If I go in pretty much expecting "Oh, well, after a year and change or so, it'll probably only hold a charge for like an hour." and that's okay. Essentially, just knowing what you're getting into, coupled with not setting expectations unreasonably high. And if that doesn't end up happening or being as bad, awesome for you.

@voiceofreason2674Ай бұрын
In my experience New York City is the only place in America where people are noticably more competent and hard working. But the closer you are to NYC the more the people feel the right to claim that right. Boston is especially bad, they really think that they're harder better workers than anybody else but they're not.

i had a rental corolla once. not sure the year but same body style as 2014. honestly it was the worst car ive ever driven. im 5'8" 160 lbs. i could barely fit. my knee was lodged between the door and the steering wheel. i was very nervous about getting into an accident. you will lose your left leg. it could not accelerate fast enough for highway driving. i dont want to say what i normally drive but its nothing special. 270hp v6. its not a fast car but i dont worry about anything. i was legit terrified going on the highway that slow. its really dangerous to be going slower than traffic. and i've never seen a cheaper more plastic dogshit interior. people always praise toyota, and tell you its the only good car company. only get japanese. only toyota is reliable. somethings are more important than reliability. like practicality, comfortability and safety. right after that happened my coworker bought a brand new corolla because his old car, i forget what he had, kept breaking down and needing repairs. he said he didn't want a corolla at all but he was afraid of losing the job because he kept calling out for car trouble. it was the best new car he could afford. first day he got the corolla it was dead in his driveway. had to have it towed to the dealer. wouldnt refund him or give him a new car. said the computer was fried. replaced it under warranty, next day same thing happened. now he's in debt. stuck with a car he hates, and missing work. replaced the computer again and told him if it happens again he would have to pay for the repair. poor bastard.
