My cousin was in his 3rd semester fall of this year and I made him show me his loans. He was in it for $30,000 with 9.00% apr.
what's funny is they issued a bunch of loans with some federal guarantee the rates would stay at the rate I agreed too... well, 5 years later whoops, whatya know they doubled the cost of my loan. :) good thing I don't pay down any of my debts at all.

In Scotland university is free, the only thing you need to repay is the cost of living loan. And even then it's just wiped out after 30 years. You only start having your wage garnished once you earn over a certain amount however (£31,395)

I am suffering from 13%, but am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. 7.6K left on privatized and ~31K federal. If you look at SallieMae's site nowadays, rates are up to 17-18% for new borrowers. It is designed to destroy your future. It's not a surprise it started existing after Nixon was in office.
