Breaks my heart. Stayed here back in the 90's and it was a magnificent resort. We stayed in a villa there in the property and our bedroom had French doors that opened into a garden. Tibia garden was filled with flowers and it was on a cliff that overlooked the ocean. What a heavenly view! I still dream of this place. I have been to seven island along the Caribbean, to Maui, lived in Hilton Head Island and now live in Scotland with my husband, but this place was the most beautiful of all. :(

I was so sad while looking at this. My husband and I had our honeymoon here back in 1990. Everything about this place was fabulous. The staff was spectacular, the grounds and rooms were meticulous. I am so sad to see this video. Yes, there was a beach!,,and it was gorgeous!

Oh Lord this kills me. When I was little, we used to spend Christmas there. Like 5-6 times or something in the 80's. I believe Marriott owned it at the time. My Dad used to do business with Marriott and we got to go there as a benefit of his relationship. The place was sprawling with many Villas and rooms. There were like 4 pools, and yes, access to a gorgeous beach on the Atlantic side of the island. Crazy waves. On the center, quad/garden thing there in front of the castle, that was big, at least an acre, and a helicopter with Santa in it used to land on Christmas day with small presents for the children. That place used to be HOPPING. Celebrities went there, I met Quincy Jones there. One of the most amazing places and some of my happiest memories as a child happened there. It hurts to see it like that. But I appreciate your video.

Although so very sad for me, thank you kindly for sharing your video. I pray someone buys this property and restores her to her former glory, if not the mansion, hopefully the villas, as they were stunning as they overlooked the beach from the cliffs. The beaches were awesome.

Oh and the waves were incredible. I learned how to body surf there and enjoyed getting slammed around by the surf. The waves were very large at times. The villas you filmed near the jetty at 9:24 are new. That was pristine and untouched at the time I visited, aside from a boardwalk. I assume that jetty was where Mr. Sam Lord's victims' ships would crash and then get plundered - as the legend goes. But those events could have taken place anywhere.

I really can't believe this. I was planning to go there today; had no idea it had burnt down. I remember visiting here as a kid and being so blown away

Right down the street from my parents house. So sad. I remember when it was the top resort in Barbados. Used to sneak in there all the time.

Just came across your video and it is so sad to see the place gone to ruin, My Girlfriends father was head chef there way back in the late sixties, Only returning to England to start a family, We have numerous pictures and postcards of the house Interior and grounds when it was in its heyday! We will be visiting Barbados ourselves in just a few weeks and hope to pay a visit to the ruins and beach while there

They really need to restore that beautiful castle/mansion...it looks like the bones of the estate are still there. My husband and I stayed there in May/2001...and it was truly heavenly...my heart breaks to see it like this.

@Carol B, I can only imagine how sad it must be to see such a magnificent property go to ruin this way. It really is a tragedy.

We visited Sam Lords as planned in November, The beach was amazing though the sea is quite rough and pretty dangerous for swimming, We saw the remains of the apartment that Nicolas parents lived in in the sixties, although it was overgrown by the jungle. A real shame to see the burnt remains of the place now

@Deborah, Sadly, I think the mansion is beyond repair since the fire and the villas have all gone to rot now as well. It's just criminal what's become of the property. I only wish I had the opportunity, as you did, to see it in all it's grandeur. The way you describe it, it must have been spectacular!

In Barbados, all waterfront is public access, even if part of private land. Resorts set back from the water then had use of the beach, but also privacy from it as well for guests. It was a much more elegant way of doing things compared to the resorts of today.

I have to make the correction on the commentary which states that there is no beach. As you will see, it has a spectacular beach.

I wish I had seen it in all it's grandeur. It looked like it was quite palatial. I'm so sorry it has met with this horrible fate. There couldn't have been more of a cause for preservation. Shame on the powers that be in BIM.

Yeah CLICO purchased the property, they held a big 'sale' on all the antique furniture inside years ago, and they've let it fall down ever-since.... Then it caught fire in September or October 2010..
