Now 8 months since converting my 2003 Lincoln Town car air suspension system to new rear coil springs and rear shocks from Strutmasters. Absolutely no regrets. Ride is just as good as the air bags. To get rid of the air suspension light I pulled out the dash on the drivers side so I could take out the plastic cover that is over the gauges. Then used double sided tape to add a some dark piece of plastic from a video game display case over the message that says air suspension. Worked great.

Have had these on my 1990 Lincoln Towncar for two years. They saved my car from the junkyard. Prior airbags were very cracked. Easy to install took only 1.5 hrs. I honestly cannot tell too much a difference in handling, comfort, etc.

A couple years ago, I changed my Air Springs (Bags) on my 1995 Town Car. Now it sounds like the compressor is about to go. Looking back, I should have installed these replacements. Great job on the video. I do not think this video was out when I did my Town Car.
@Strutmasters4 жыл бұрын
Curious, what did you decide to do on that vehicle?
@displayfireworks14 жыл бұрын
@@Strutmasters My comment above is 9 years old. Back then I added new air bags. I used the lincolnsonline.com website to figure out how to do it. I sold the car a year or so later. I also owned a 2003 Grand Marquis Ultimate with air suspension . The air compressor went bad on that one . I replaced the air compressor and one year later something else went bad. That is when I had my local independent mechanic add replacement springs. To anyone out there reading this , do not try to fix an older air suspension vehicle , just buy spring replacements. After having two air suspensions vehicles. I'll never buy another one ever. Both my Town Car and the Grand Marquis air suspension never had great rides with the air bags.

@@displayfireworks1 Your timing is PERFECT!! I have a 1997 Town Car that's losing air overnight. I was thinking about replacing the air springs, BUT due to the age of the car, I think that getting the conversion kit is probably a better idea. I was afraid it'd ruin the car's fantastic ride, but, apparently, that's not the case.

M Lincoln dealership does this for their customers. They use either arnott or strut master coil springs and new shocks. I used a local family auto shop. Completed this 2 days ago and really like the conversion. No regrets. Ride is about the same as air springs. Have a 2003 Lincoln Town Car. Saved a lot of money. $ 450 was the total cost. If you need air springs because you tow a boat then the air springs may be needed.

why is it so hard to find a shop that will do this with parts i already bought
@Strutmasters8 жыл бұрын
The problem a shop may have with doing this for you could be because they want to make sure that the correct parts were ordered. Some shops also like to make money off of the parts. The install is very easy on this vehicle, we can do the entire thing here in about an hour.

Yes, try replacing the air bags, replacing the line, replacing the worn out compressor, and replacing the solenoids, just to start. Or get the conversion system for 230 bucks, have someone slap them on the car for 80-120 bucks, turn of air suspension light, and sell it for a profit, or keep it for another 100,000 miles.

Does anyone know why they never fixed the problem is subsequent years? They knew they were defective in design so why not fix it. You bought this car for the air ride so taking it off defeats the purpose.
@Strutmasters8 жыл бұрын
Well I don't think that the manufacturers see it as an issue. The air suspension is a great ride and every time it goes bad most people carry it to the dealership and spend several thousand dollars to get it fixed. This is a win win situation for them.

You could get it fixed for less. The parts aren't expensive and they actually are easy to replace. Changing from air suspension to strutmasters is actually a bad idea.

I rather have the air suspension. I think it is a better system. The major problem is figuring out why it isn't staying up. Figure out your problem and the cause then fix that problem.

Fixing the air systems on these cars is a waste of money. I converted my town car to springs and can't tell a difference in ride quality at all. Also don't have a bunch of expensive, failure-prone components to worry about anymore...
@Tigerfire7510 жыл бұрын
bigchevy80 You take care of the system it isn't failure-prone. People abuse their cars then complain that they are failure prone.
@chadmason85269 жыл бұрын
Tigerfire75 Most often the problem is the air springs. You can check this. 1) When the car is at correct ride height turn off the air suspension switch. 2) Lift the car so that the rear wheals are off the ground. (not by the axle, it has to hang) 3) Spray soapy water on them and check for leaks/bubbles forming. Normally they crack at the bottom, they fold over themselves and you will not see this area unless the suspension is hanging freely. Pumps do not usually go bad except when you do not fix the leakage problem. It is the pump running all the time because of a leak that wears them out. If you fix the leak instead of ignoring it, chances are you will not have a pump problem.
